Proposed deletion of Ellen Bass

[edit]

The article Ellen Bass has been proposed for deletion because of the following concern:

BLP with no reliable sources, does not meet Wikipedia's general notability guideline.

While all contributions to Wikipedia are appreciated, content or articles may be deleted for any of several reasons.

You may prevent the proposed deletion by removing the {{dated prod}} notice, but please explain why in your edit summary or on the article's talk page.

Please consider improving the article to address the issues raised. Removing {{dated prod}} will stop the Proposed Deletion process, but other deletion processes exist. The Speedy Deletion process can result in deletion without discussion, and Articles for Deletion allows discussion to reach consensus for deletion. This is an automated message from CorenSearchBot. I have performed a web search with the contents of David Lee (poet), and it appears to include a substantial copy of http://www.entradainstitute.org/about_david_lee.htm. For legal reasons, we cannot accept copyrighted text or images borrowed from other web sites or printed material; such additions will be deleted. You may use external websites as a source of information, but not as a source of sentences. See our copyright policy for further details.

This message was placed automatically, and it is possible that the bot is confused and found similarity where none actually exists. If that is the case, you can remove the tag from the article and it would be appreciated if you could drop a note on the maintainer's talk page. Hi. I appreciate your removing text from this source from the article. I have also removed text from [1]. Wikipedia can only publish previously published text if it is either verifiably public domain or licensed compatibly with our own license (see our copyright policy). If you are by chance the previous publisher, you do have the option of donating the text. The procedure for this can be found at Donating copyrighted materials. If you are not, but have permission from the publisher, you can verify this through the process set out at WP:Permissions. --Moonriddengirl (talk) 17:12, 7 November 2009 (UTC)[reply]

A tag has been placed on Dan Gerber requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done under section G12 of the criteria for speedy deletion, because the article appears to be a blatant copyright infringement. For legal reasons, we cannot accept copyrighted text or images borrowed from other web sites or printed material, and as a consequence, your addition will most likely be deleted. You may use external websites as a source of information, but not as a source of sentences. This part is crucial: say it in your own words.

If the external website belongs to you, and you want to allow Wikipedia to use the text — which means allowing other people to modify it — then you must verify that externally by one of the processes explained at Wikipedia:Donating copyrighted materials. If you are not the owner of the external website but have permission from that owner, see Wikipedia:Requesting copyright permission. You might want to look at Wikipedia's policies and guidelines for more details, or ask a question here.

If you think that this notice was placed here in error, you may contest the deletion by adding {{hangon}} to the top of the page that has been nominated for deletion (just below the existing speedy deletion or "db" tag), coupled with adding a note on the talk page explaining your position, but be aware that once tagged for speedy deletion, if the page meets the criterion it may be deleted without delay. Please do not remove the speedy deletion tag yourself, but don't hesitate to add information to the page that would render it more in conformance with Wikipedia's policies and guidelines. That article was a copyvio of the several website you cited. You cannot just take a paragraph from website 1, a sentence from website 2, etc., and claim that it was not a copyright violation - it was, of both sites. It took me a while to clean up the article, during which time it has been (correctly) speedily deleted. Please note that persistent copyright violators may be blocked from editing. Hi. Thank you for your recent edits. Wikipedia appreciates your help. Hi, I notice that many of your edits are to Copper Canyon Press or adding links to Copper Canyon's website to pages about poets published by the press. Are you by any chance affiliated with Copper Canyon? If so, I would strongly recommend that you disclose this connection and review Wikipedia's policies on conflict of interest. A page you started (Clemens Starck) has been reviewed!

[edit]

Thanks for creating Clemens Starck, RCFrancis!

Wikipedia editor Cwmhiraeth just reviewed your page, and wrote this note for you:

Please be careful about close paraphrasing. You should express the information in the source in your own words and not copy/paste sentences into your article.

To reply, leave a comment on Cwmhiraeth's talk page.

I have been blocked based on Clemens Starck's page that I have created. I pasted or copied nothing from any of the external references. Obviously I used information from each of the references however there were no copy/paste sentences. The same is true for the Rachel McKibbens page that I wrote earlier in the summer. I would like more detail on why the Starck page is blocked and why the McKibbens page has been scalped of all content. I am certainly willing to make any adjustments to the pages to clear up these problems. Thanks for your help. Bob Francis

I think I understand why I was blocked. I did not copy or paste anything from a copyrighted document. However the text I wrote may have been interpreted as mimicking copyrighted material. From now on I will paraphrase from any document that might be copyrighted. I would love to have another go at Rachel McKibbens' Wikipedia page and see if that stands up to editor review. I am a volunteer at Copper Canyon Press and have been involved in creating Wiki pages for a number of our poets who don't already have a Wiki page. I attempt to be informational rather than promotional about these poets. Thanks for your consideration. Bob Francis

Closely paraphrasing copyrighted material is not accepted either. You need to write it in your own words. —Jeremy v^_^v Bori! 00:05, 31 October 2018 (UTC)[reply]

I need some examples of where I paraphrased copyrighted material. For example in the Rachel McKibbens wiki page that you folks tore down, I am not sure what I did. I fully referenced all internal and external refs that I may have paraphrased. It seems a bit silly to try to get around the copyright issue by simply putting in some different (but less descriptive) words. McKibbens' wiki page is now a hollow shadow of what it was. The same can be said of the Clemens Starck wiki page that I wrote. So, in order to mend my ways I need to see a few clear examples of where I violated copyrighted material. Once I see some concrete examples, I can easily change the way I approach writing wikipedia articles. Thanks for your time. Bob Francis
