Malawi language section of info box

[edit]

What's the deal with the edit warring? The source clearly states that Chewa is a common language with the rest of the languages listed. The national_language and regional_language parameters of the infobox country template state:

national_languages = Country/territory-wide languages recognised but not necessarily in country/territory-wide law, etc

regional_languages = Languages recognised or associated with particular regions within the country/territory

How are the languages listed in the CIA sources not exactly that? Wkpdsrnm2023 (talk) 00:49, 14 April 2023 (UTC)[reply]

@Wkpdsrnm2023: Are the "common" language and "national" language interchangeable? In the CIA source, I don't see any recognition of the said languages, they just mention those languages as languages spoken there, not "recognized" or any other specialty. RCB88 (talk) 12:25, 14 April 2023 (UTC)[reply]
I mean isn't the definition of the word "recognized" that people acknowledge something exists? If a language is "common" wouldn't that be the same as acknowledging that it exists throughout the country? It really doesn't make a difference to me how it's classified, we can manually change the label to say "spoken languages" if that helps clear up the issue. I'm more concerned that these languages are just being removed entirely from the page when there are official sources listing them under the languages section of Malawi.
Do you think we can come to a compromise with this, rather than doing the editing back and forth? Would you say changing the label to "spoken languages" and keeping the language list there is fair? Wkpdsrnm2023 (talk) 13:00, 14 April 2023 (UTC)[reply]
@Wkpdsrnm2023: I think so, to change it to "spoken languages" is plausible. RCB88 (talk) 13:09, 14 April 2023 (UTC)[reply]
Okay, well, I changed it to spoken languages and rearranged the languages so they are in alphabetical order. I added one of the missing languages that wasn't on there but was on the source, I think it was Nyakyusa. And I tried to add Nkhonde but there is no article for it, so I left it out because the source says that it's mutually intelligible with Nyakyusa. Let me know if there's any issue with it. Wkpdsrnm2023 (talk) 13:35, 14 April 2023 (UTC)[reply]
No issue at all for now. Thank you for making the change. RCB88 (talk) 13:40, 14 April 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Welcome!

Thanks for contributing! Please feel free to reach out on my talk page if you have any questions. Wikipedia can be a confusing place. You can also always ask questions at the Teahouse.

You are correct that the content you removed at Zambia should be cited. Are you interested in looking for sources for some of that material instead of completely removing it? I think that would be really helpful. I hope you will, thanks! Larataguera (talk) 12:42, 17 April 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Edit warring in 2023 Sudan conflict

[edit]

Just as a note, you have made 2 reverts of reliable material. If you make a third revert you will violate WP:3RR and are likely to have your account blocked. Ecrusized (talk) 08:07, 26 April 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Reliable but not applicable. There is a difference. RCB88 (talk) 08:08, 26 April 2023 (UTC)[reply]
regardless, edit warring is unacceptable. Assume good faith and seek concensues or third opinion if you have a different opinion that you can not resolve mutually. FuzzyMagma (talk) 10:32, 26 April 2023 (UTC)[reply]
Understood. RCB88 (talk) 13:17, 27 April 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Hi,

You seem to be removing large sections without consultation or warning to editors, blanking pages that now look empty. Please be more constructive with your editing, asking for sources and giving time for others to help contribute to build a better encyclopaedia rather than whole-sale deleting. Felixsv7 (talk) 09:07, 9 May 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Also, have a look at this page for best practice. Felixsv7 (talk) 09:09, 9 May 2023 (UTC)[reply]
Thank you for your advice, I will look through the stuff. RCB88 (talk) 08:32, 10 May 2023 (UTC)[reply]
