An editor has identified a potential problem with the redirect Landing platform vessel and has thus listed it for discussion. This discussion will occur at Wikipedia:Redirects for discussion/Log/2023 January 26 § Landing platform vessel until a consensus is reached, and anyone, including you, is welcome to contribute to the discussion. Mick Lauer article
This seems to be meet all the criteria for moving to draft, only there was already a redirect. If there was only a redirect I would take it to RFD where it would probably be deleted. I don't know if it should be moved to draft including the first two redirect revisions of if it needs splitting. Peter James (talk) 11:09, 29 January 2023 (UTC)
- @Peter James, I ahead and draftify it if you want. You can then restore the redirect. — Qwerfjkltalk 11:32, 29 January 2023 (UTC)

The students were introduced to the importance of protecting India's history on the internet, and were taught how to edit Wikipedia and Wikidata. They were given a special event page on Wikidata with instructions and a list of Wikidata items to add citations to, and they searched for references in their textbooks and search engines to add to the Wikidata items.More details are given here.

Growth team newsletter #24
Welcome to the twenty-fourth newsletter from the Growth team!
Newcomer experience projects
The Growth team partnered with other WMF teams to conduct several experiments around increasing account creation and new editor retention. Results from four of these experiments are now available:
- Thank you pages & banners - Encourage donors to create accounts through thank you pages and banners.
- Marketing experiment - Run ads on-wiki and off-wiki to see how this impacts account activation.
- "Add an image" GLAM events - Host GLAM events that focus on using the "Add an image" tool.
- Welcome emails - Experiment sending welcome emails to newly created accounts.
Newcomer tasks
- Several communities suggested improving "add a link", by suggesting underlinked articles first. We released this change to Growth pilot wikis. We will review the data and collect feedback before considering releasing it to more wikis. [5]
- The deployment of the "add a link" to all Wikipedias is still in progress. Suggested links use a prediction model, which has to be trained. The deployments will resume after we finish training all models. [6]
Mentorship
- When someone wants to signup as a mentor, they are now informed if they don't meet the defined criteria. [7]
- Workshop hosts asked us to have workshop attendees assigned to them. They can soon use a custom URL parameter. This way, workshop hosts will continue mentoring the event's attendees after the workshop. It will be available in February. [8]
- Have you considered to help new editors on your wiki, by signing up to be a Mentor?
- Please visit Special:MentorDashboard to check on the conditions to be a mentor, and sign up.
- If your wiki does not have Mentorship enabled, consider setting it up. The Growth team can provide advice and assist as needed. Please ping Trizek (WMF) for assistance.
Other news
- In Special:SpecialPages, Growth experiments now have their own section. [9]
- This newsletter will have a new publication period, 6 times a year: January, March, May, July, September, November.
Translations
- Newsletter translation: We are looking for translators for this newsletter. If you are interested and have the needed English language proficiency to assist, then please add your name to this list. You will receive an invite on your talk page to translate the newsletter when it is ready.
- Interface translation: You can also help by translating the interface, or reviewing translations to make them more inclusive. Interface translations are hosted at translatewiki.net.

Converting Wikidata redirects
You have doing a lot of replacement of {{Wikidata redirect}} to {{R with Wikidata item}}, such as this one at Erfüllungspolitik but I'm not sure this is correct. According to the template instructions at Template:Wikidata redirect/doc, "Wikidata redirect may be used on all redirects." Perhaps you should stop doing these, until it's clear that these changes are desirable. Mathglot (talk) 22:15, 1 February 2023 (UTC)

Administrators' newsletter – February 2023
News and updates for administrators from the past month (January 2023).
|
|
- Following an RfC, the administrator policy now requires that prior written consent be gained from the Arbitration Committee to mark a block as only appealable to the committee.
- Following a community discussion, consensus has been found to impose the extended-confirmed restriction over the topic areas of Armenia and Azerbaijan and Kurds and Kurdistan.
- The Vector 2022 skin has become the default for desktop users of the English Wikipedia.
- The arbitration case Armenia-Azerbaijan 3 has been opened and the proposed decision is expected 24 February 2023.
- In December, the contentious topics procedure was adopted which replaces the former discretionary sanctions system. The contentious topics procedure is now in effect following an initial implementation period. There is a detailed summary of the changes and administrator instructions for the new procedure. The arbitration clerk team are taking suggestions, concerns, and unresolved questions about this new system at their noticeboard.
- Voting in the 2023 Steward elections will begin on 05 February 2023, 21:00 (UTC) and end on 26 February 2023, 21:00 (UTC). The confirmation process of current stewards is being held in parallel. You can automatically check your eligibility to vote.
- Voting in the 2023 Community Wishlist Survey will begin on 10 February 2023 and end on 24 February 2023. You can submit, discuss and revise proposals until 6 February 2023.
- Tech tip: Syntax highlighting is available in both the 2011 and 2017 Wikitext editors. It can help make editing paragraphs with many references or complicated templates easier.
"Wikidata redirect should only be used on soft redirects."
I'm not really sure how {{Wikidata redirect}} and {{R with Wikidata item}} differ (they both fill the same category, it seems; is it just aesthetics to fit with other rcats?), but {{Wikidata redirect}}'s documentation does say While similar to {{Wiktionary redirect}}, that template is only used on soft redirects, while Wikidata redirect may be used on all redirects
, so you may want to edit it/clarify the situation. eviolite (talk) 04:01, 2 February 2023 (UTC)

pywikibot
Hi. I have been using pywikibot since December 2021. I have had various experiences of many types. I saw your conversation on Novem's talkpage, and Discord as well. But your issues were solved by the time I saw them. Please feel free to ask any doubts/quires that you may face in the future. I am not an expert in pywikibot/toolforge, but have faced many problems, so I know many answers as well. Regards, —usernamekiran (talk) 06:59, 22 January 2023 (UTC)
- @Usernamekiran, I'm stuck trying to login, as I mentioned on Discord. — Qwerfjkltalk 12:58, 22 January 2023 (UTC)
- I thought it was resolved. I forgot how I did the installation on my windows setup (whether it was git clone from gerrit, or pip install like you did), but the high chances are I followed the steps from this older version of the guide. I checked the link on that older version, and it leads to toolforge, which seems to have latest version of pywikibot. So you would have to download, and extract it
C:Users\<user>pywikibot
, but before that you need to remove your previous installation. Then just to be sure, runC:\Users\<user>\pywikibot>python pwb.py version
If the version command runs successfully, then the first step is done. In second step, you will need a Special:BotPasswords. Once you have botpass, run the commandC:\Users\<user>\pywikibot>python pwb.py generate_user_files
This will generate user-config.py interactively. If user-password.py is not generated, create it in same directory as of user-config. Your username, and other details go in user-config file, where as user-password would have only one line (in my case there are two lines, as I run two bots by two different usernmaes on two projects - en, and mr). The line should be tuple, here is my line for en:('en', 'wikipedia', 'KiranBOT', BotPassword('<bot-name>', '<auto-generated-botpass>'))
. Regarding the login, you don't have to login from your script, you have to define a site then user-config logs you in accordingly. For example, if my script defines the the site as en.wikipedia, then I am logged in en credentials, in case its mrwiki, then its KiranBOT_II. You can download and run this script by Mz7 as it is for a better idea. Just changeTABLE_LOCATION = 'Wikipedia:Sockpuppet investigations/SPI/Cases'
toTABLE_LOCATION = 'User:Qwerfjkl/Sandbox'
. Also, even if you already have a botpass, I would recommend to revoke the bot's permission to create new pages, in case you don't have botpass, keep the permission unchecked while creating botpass. —usernamekiran (talk) 17:43, 22 January 2023 (UTC) - more details of user-config on mediawiki. I recommend running the command, and then editing/customising the files per personal requirements/preferences. —usernamekiran (talk) 17:46, 22 January 2023 (UTC)
- @Usernamekiran, okay. I guess I'll try pip uninstall pywikibot or something. Does the pywikibot installation come with mwparserfromhell? — Qwerfjkltalk 20:41, 22 January 2023 (UTC)
- I am not sure, I use the parser though. After installing the new pywikibot, try pip. If it's present it will say so, and skip, if not then it will install it. —usernamekiran (talk) 20:46, 22 January 2023 (UTC)
- @Usernamekiran, Where do I need to keep pywikibot relative to the script I'm running? E.g. if I have my script at FILEPATH, do I need the pywikibot folder at FILEPATH/pywikibot? — Qwerfjkltalk 17:42, 23 January 2023 (UTC)
- I did some experimenting after reading your question. The script you want to run should be in the same folder/directory where
pwb.py
is located. You also need to be in the same directory on your command prompt while executing/running the script. Were you able to login? —usernamekiran (talk) 02:16, 25 January 2023 (UTC)- @Usernamekiran, Yes, I got it to work. Now I just need to move it to Toolforge. — Qwerfjkltalk 07:02, 25 January 2023 (UTC)
- if you got putty working, then moving it to toolforge wouldn't be difficult. I think I configured putty with toolforge after a month I started using the bot from toolforge. —usernamekiran (talk) 07:57, 25 January 2023 (UTC)
- @Usernamekiran, do you know how to update python on Toolforge? It says it's 2.7.16 on Toolforge, and I need python 3 for pywikibot to run. — Qwerfjkltalk 19:54, 26 January 2023 (UTC)
- I don't think we need to install python on toolforge. Which steps are you following? —usernamekiran (talk) 21:24, 26 January 2023 (UTC)

@Usernamekiran, I was just testing what happens if I run the code on Toolforge (via PuTTY). It gave a bunch of errors because the pywikibot code was written in python 3. — Qwerfjkltalk 21:57, 26 January 2023 (UTC)- what error are you getting? also what method did you use to set-up the pywikibot on toolforge? —usernamekiran (talk) 01:20, 27 January 2023 (UTC)
- @Usernamekiran, I got a syntax error. I just transferred pywikibot to Toolforge with WinSCP. — Qwerfjkltalk 07:06, 27 January 2023 (UTC)
- it wouldn't work. You have to go through the steps provided here. —usernamekiran (talk) 07:13, 27 January 2023 (UTC)
- @Usernamekiran, okay. Should I install from Git or PyPI? — Qwerfjkltalk 07:17, 27 January 2023 (UTC)
- git. —usernamekiran (talk) 07:20, 27 January 2023 (UTC)
- @Usernamekiran, well, that seemed to work. It says use
tools.TOOLNAME@tools-sgebastion-10:~$ toolforge-jobs run my-cool-job --command "$HOME/pwbvenv/bin/python3 $HOME/my-cool-script.py"
to run the script once. What should go in place of my-cool-job? An arbitrary name? — Qwerfjkltalk 20:11, 29 January 2023 (UTC)- yes, it is an arbitrary placeholder name, can be anything. —usernamekiran (talk) 20:55, 29 January 2023 (UTC)

a little bit off topic
How good are you with python? I am a little stuck with my current script. Would you be able to help me? —usernamekiran (talk) 22:02, 29 January 2023 (UTC)
- @Usernamekiran, I'm fairly good. What's the problem? — Qwerfjkltalk 22:18, 29 January 2023 (UTC)
- Well, I have one working script, and I want to update it with a new logic/methodology. I have most of the work with the new script, but it still has some syntax errors, and some other minor flaws. Finalising the new script is not much of a work, as almost most of the coding has been done. It just needs to be re-arranged, and fixed. —usernamekiran (talk) 22:26, 29 January 2023 (UTC)
- @Usernamekiran, sure, I'm happy to help. — Qwerfjkltalk 22:29, 29 January 2023 (UTC)
- Can you please send me an email thorough wikipedia, then I can reply to it including my scripts attached. —usernamekiran (talk) 23:07, 29 January 2023 (UTC)

- Hi. Do you know how to use "concat" instead of "append" with pandas? I am getting error when I am trying that. —usernamekiran (talk) 03:30, 2 February 2023 (UTC)
- @Usernamekiran, sorry, I missed this. Is this still a problem? — Qwerfjkltalk 14:27, 5 February 2023 (UTC)
- no worries. I am getting a warning to update my method that I am using:
FutureWarning: The frame.append method is deprecated and will be removed from pandas in a future version. Use pandas.concat instead.
But I don't know the syntax to use pandas. concat —usernamekiran (talk) 16:27, 5 February 2023 (UTC)
