Use of legal language
[edit]Your recent edits to Wikipedia: Help desk could give Wikipedia contributors the impression that you may consider legal or other "off-wiki" action against them, or against Wikipedia itself. Please note that making such threats on Wikipedia is strictly prohibited under Wikipedia's policies on legal threats and civility. Users who make such threats may be blocked. If you have a dispute with the content of any page on Wikipedia, please follow the proper channels for dispute resolution. Please be sure to comment on content, not contributors, and where possible make specific suggestions for changes supported by reliable independent sources and focusing especially on verifiable errors of fact. Thank you. --Orange Mike | Talk 18:19, 7 February 2014 (UTC)
- Orangemike, given that the user said in the post that his English was poor, and that any threat was rather oblique at best, (it isn't clear what is "indictable": uploading in the first place, or what, even if you assume that "indictable" was in fact the correct word intended), I don't think a legal threat warning is needed here. I was the first person who responded to the HD post, and I certainly didn't feel threatened. DES (talk) 19:45, 7 February 2014 (UTC)
- You notice that I merely cautioned the poster, rather than blocking as I would in a more serious case. --Orange Mike | Talk 20:57, 7 February 2014 (UTC)
- I should hope that it would be a very rare and particularly serious case which resulted in a block with no warnings at all. But in this particular case I feel that even this warning was a bit excessive. However, the user has now been warned and I ahve expressed my views, and the poster's original concern is beign dealt with as well as may be. So I guess all is well.
