Dear Myrtha (if we may call you that for short),

We hope you've noticed the new article on yr former professor Olga Maynard, which may surprise you (tho' at present we are having geek problems with posting the splendid picture of her in 1943--can you help?). This is, among other things, an effort to inspire a group of serious entries on *writing about dance*, sorely lacking in Wiki. Suggest that Wiki Dance group contact extant people in the field, such as Richard Philp, requesting information or even articles. (Notice how we're fast losing people from the dance boom.) You could set a standard there. Related to this article, we've opened a stub on Bill Como, and made external links to the *Dance Magazine* tiny stub.Alethe 11:56, 24 May 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Thank you for contacting me but I am unsure exactly what you are asking. Queenofthewilis 10:56, 14 June 2007 (UTC)[reply]

I created the Ferri article because there wasn't one and I thought it was needed, but it was in no way meant to be a thorough article. I tend to start basic articles and fix other peoples', because I find that people are afraid of starting new ones (too much work) but are more willing to edit/expand existing ones. Thanks for working on it, and the articles you've been adding too. You're doing a lot of great work and WikiProject Dance needs more people like you!— Editor at Large(speak) 15:39, 4 October 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Great work

I, Editor at Large, hereby give you this Exceptional Newcomer Award for your exceptional contributions to dance and ballet-related articles. Keep up the good work; you're doing amazing stuff!

WikiProject Ballet

[edit]

Hello, Queenofthewilis! I noticed that you are a member of WikiProject Dance. Keitei, a fellow member, and I have begun a WikiProject for Ballet in my userspace. We hope to recruit enough members to make this a feasible WikiProject, and would appreciate your support! You can join at the WikiProject page or leave any suggestions on the talk page.
Thanks! — Editor at Large(speak) 23:08, 13 November 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Kevin McKenzie

[edit]

Hi. Thanks for your message. It's quite easy to move an article. Just click on the 'move' box at the top of the page and follow the instructions. It's generally considered better to move pages rather than to create a duplicate article then delete the old one, as the history is then preserved. Check out WP:MOVE for more details. To delete an article, meanwhile, you can add a speedy deletion template - {{db-}} followed by a specific request. For example, in the case of a biography, it would be {{db-bio}}, or {{db-redirect}} for a redirect. Hope this helps. Cheers Paul20070 (talk) 14:05, 3 March 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Glad it worked ok. Cheers Paul20070 (talk) 11:37, 5 March 2008 (UTC)[reply]
I have to ask why you moved the article - I moved it from its original title to Kevin McKenzie (ballet dancer) as that was much more appropriate. The title that it has now is too long and would not show up in any sensible search for Mr McKenzie were it not for the redirect that your move created. Wikipedia articles should have titles that are concise and to the point. From Wikipedia:Naming conventions (people), emphasis added:

Some standardisation of the bracketed disambiguator is possible, for example "(musician)" and "(politician)" are very recognisable. Try to avoid abbreviations or anything capitalised or containing hyphens, dashes or numbers (apart from where more specific guidelines specify particular exceptions to that), and also try to limit to a single, recognisable and highly applicable word regarding the person at hand.

Thank you for your follow-up message on my talk page. I have moved the article back to Kevin McKenzie (ballet dancer). – ukexpat (talk) 13:50, 6 March 2008 (UTC)[reply]

File Copyright problem
File Copyright problem

Thanks for uploading File:Vzevolozhskys costume sketch for Nutcracker.jpg. I noticed that the file's description page currently doesn't specify who created the content, so the copyright status is unclear. If you did not create this file yourself, you will need to specify the owner of the copyright. If you obtained it from a website, then a link to the website from which it was taken, together with a restatement of that website's terms of use of its content, is usually sufficient information. However, if the copyright holder is different from the website's publisher, their copyright should also be acknowledged.

If you have uploaded other files, consider checking that you have specified their source and tagged them, too. You can find a list of files you have uploaded by following this link. Unsourced and untagged images may be deleted one week after they have been tagged, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. If the image is copyrighted under a non-free license (per Wikipedia:Fair use) then the image will be deleted 48 hours after 00:16, 28 March 2009 (UTC). If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you.

Ondine

[edit]

Please Help! - I am looking for the support of ballet and dance enthusiasts on Wikipedia, to help me prevent the proposed merging of Ondine (Ashton), into an article about the ballet's music. The music for this ballet would not have been written had it not been for the choreographer Frederick Ashton, who commissioned it specially for this ballet. This ballet was one of Ashton's most famous works and it would be a terrible shame for this article to be merged into an article that focusses primarily on the music and the composer rather than the ballet and the choreography.

See here: - Wikipedia_talk:WikiProject_Classical_music#Straw_Poll

Please vote to oppose this change, as this music would not have been written had it not been for Ashton's ballet!!!

Thank You

File permission problem with File:Corella_as_Aminta.jpg

[edit]

Thanks for uploading File:Corella_as_Aminta.jpg. I noticed that while you provided a valid copyright licensing tag, there is no proof that the creator of the file agreed to license it under the given license.

If you created this media entirely yourself but have previously published it elsewhere (especially online), please either

  • make a note permitting reuse under the CC-BY-SA or another acceptable free license (see this list) at the site of the original publication; or
  • Send an email from an address associated with the original publication to permissions-en@wikimedia.org, stating your ownership of the material and your intention to publish it under a free license. You can find a sample permission letter here. If you take this step, add {{OTRS pending}} to the file description page to prevent premature deletion.

If you did not create it entirely yourself, please ask the person who created the file to take one of the two steps listed above, or if the owner of the file has already given their permission to you via email, please forward that email to permissions-en@wikimedia.org.

If you believe the media meets the criteria at Wikipedia:Non-free content, use a tag such as {{non-free fair use in|article name}} or one of the other tags listed at Wikipedia:Image copyright tags#Fair use, and add a rationale justifying the file's use on the article or articles where it is included. See Wikipedia:Image copyright tags for the full list of copyright tags that you can use.

If you have uploaded other files, consider checking that you have provided evidence that their copyright owners have agreed to license their works under the tags you supplied, too. You can find a list of files you have created in your upload log. Files lacking evidence of permission may be deleted one week after they have been tagged, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you. howcheng {chat} 22:05, 27 July 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Queenofthewilis:

I saw the rendering of the 1892 second act Nutcracker you posted on the Nutcracker Ballet page. It's the second one, the small one that's more detailed. I'm trying to find a high resolution copy of that image and I'm wondering where you got it from. We'd like to use the image as part of a projection in our Nutcracker but we need a higher resolution than the one floating around the internet.

Any help you could give me on this would be greatly appreciated.

Hi,
You appear to be eligible to vote in the current Arbitration Committee election. The Arbitration Committee is the panel of editors responsible for conducting the Wikipedia arbitration process. It has the authority to enact binding solutions for disputes between editors, primarily related to serious behavioural issues that the community has been unable to resolve. This includes the ability to impose site bans, topic bans, editing restrictions, and other measures needed to maintain our editing environment. The arbitration policy describes the Committee's roles and responsibilities in greater detail. If you wish to participate, you are welcome to review the candidates' statements and submit your choices on the voting page.
