Welcome!

[edit]

I'm sorry about the mix-up with Primer (molecular biology)‎. I'd like to give you a little more formal welcome to wikipedia. Thank you for catching the error in that article! When I joined, WAvegetarian gave me this welcome message. I found the links really useful, so I'll post it here for you:

Welcome to Wikipedia! I hope you like it here and decide to stay.
Here are some tips:
If you feel a change is needed, feel free to make it yourself! Wikipedia is a wiki, so anyone (yourself included) can edit any article by following the Edit this page link. Wikipedia convention is to be bold and not be afraid of making mistakes. If you're not sure how editing works, have a look at How to edit a page, or try out the Sandbox to test your editing skills.
If, for some reason, you are unable to fix a problem yourself, feel free to ask someone else to do it. Wikipedia has a vibrant community of contributors who have a wide range of skills and specialties, and many of them would be glad to help. There are also the help pages for self-help and the village pump and IRC Channels, where you are more than welcome to ask for assistance. You should also feel free to ask me on my Talk page.
I hope you enjoy editing here and being a Wikipedian! By the way, you can sign your name on Talk and vote pages using three tildes, like this: ~~~. Four tildes(~~~~) produces your name and the current date. Please do not add this signature to encyclopedia articles you may edit, however, even if you have created them. Wikipedia articles are owned by the community, not by any one person. Again, welcome!

From now on, it'll be a good idea to leave the talk page here, so people can see you're an active user and won't make the mistake I did. If someone does accuse you of vandalism here, it's best to just respond to it rather than deleting it (which looks bad). For my part, I apologize for the mistake. Welcome, and good luck.  :-) Madeleine 23:16, 3 May 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Histones

[edit]

Hi Pwnz0r1377. (I'm not even going to ask where the name comes from). Thanks for the note. I did feel histones had to be removed as written, since they're not the only proteins there, and the statement made it look like they were. Clarity and completeness above all, I think. However, you made a valid point that they should probably be mentioned, with links to histones and non-histone proteins. Whaddya think? Esseh 05:57, 10 May 2007 (UTC)[reply]

OK, that redlinks. Bummer. Esseh 05:58, 10 May 2007 (UTC)[reply]
Too bad. I rather thought some (VERY brief) mention should be made. I'll cogitate on it. Esseh 06:10, 10 May 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Your userpage

[edit]

Don't sweat it - and you may not want to advertise that you're new. Unfortunately, some people tend to take advantage of that. You are NOT obliged to put anything there. Some do (I have), but put nothing about themselves. Some just put that "you've reached my homepage, leave a message on talk", or something like that. Just a thought. Cheers. Esseh 08:43, 10 May 2007 (UTC)[reply]

No probs. Just lemme know how I can help. Know that I've only been doing this for a month or so myself - I'm no expert. On the other hand, my favourite definition of an "expert" is: "X" is an unknown quantity, and a "spurt" is a drip under pressure (=Xspurt). Beware so-called "experts" :) (and OK, I gotta know where your username came from.) Cheers. Esseh 03:42, 11 May 2007 (UTC)[reply]
That's cool - no big deal. Actually, why I wondered is that I just left a comment on user:Warlordjohncarter's page congratulating him on a brilliant choice of name - one that is meaningful, but to which almost nobody would get the reference. You can read it there. (Just so you know, mine is rather lame, too - it really doesn't matter.) Cheers. Esseh 03:57, 11 May 2007 (UTC)[reply]
And good job warning IP 69.137.46.90 about the vandalism on genetics. You might want to note there are templates, with standard warnings for this. For example (and there are, apparently, others): {{subst:uw-v1|add pagename here| your comments other than "thanks", or leave blank}} will give them a first warning. From there, add "v2", "v3" and "v4", for escalating levels. These translate into standard warnings. Just sign your name "~~~~" after. (But try to be polite - sometimes those that start out as vandals do grow up and start to add stuff that's relevant.) Esseh 04:05, 11 May 2007 (UTC)[reply]
Apparently, we're on-line at the same time. No, I can't block anyone, and usually vandals are given 4 warnings before being blocked (just in case they start becoming reasonable. Esseh 04:06, 11 May 2007 (UTC)[reply]
Well, Madeprime has taken the lead on the article. Don't give him/her full leeway - I know I'm not. But I feel since that person has taken the lead, (which takes guts), I'll edit, but will always leave as detailed an edit summary as I can. In case of larger changes, leave a message on the talk page, and Mad is pretty good about getting back to you. (John Carter was the hero in the Princess of Mars series, written by Edgar Rice Burroughs, better known for writing the Tarzan series. Not many people know that, but they're well worth reading!) (EGAD! "Princess of Mars" red-linked! There's a page to start!) Esseh 04:23, 11 May 2007 (UTC)[reply]
Hey, I'm not an anonymous person -- my name, Madeleine Price Ball, is on my userpage. :-) If you click on the link to my personal web page, you can find out a lot about me. Madeleine 12:52, 11 May 2007 (UTC)[reply]
Don't worry Esseh, we do have A Princess of Mars.--Kubigula (talk) 07:41, 12 May 2007 (UTC)[reply]

User warnings

[edit]

Hi Pwnz0r1377. I appreciate that you take the time to warn people who make vandalistic edits, as lots of editors don't. However, you need to be careful about making disparaging comments like this. WP:UTM has a lot of useful user warning templates that are good for almost any situation. It's generally agreed to start with a nice warning, then move up the scale if necessary.--Kubigula (talk) 07:41, 12 May 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Re: Requested deletion.

[edit]

The article Cripple_Buttons is vandalism. Could you please delete it? Pwnz0r1377 19:34, 12 May 2007 (UTC)[reply]

It was marked for speedy deletion and I have been going through the category in the last few minutes. Tagging is enough, there's no need to tell admins what they need to do for such situations! Incidentally, you might want to think about changning your username as LEE7 isn't a great choice of vernacular. See WP:USERNAME and WP:CHU for details. OK, I take this back then. Thanks for being civil about it =D ~ G1ggy! Reply | Powderfinger! 06:17, 13 May 2007 (UTC)[reply]

This is your only warning. The next time you make a personal attack as you did at User talk:84.64.141.232, you will be blocked for disruption. Comment on content, not on other contributors or people. Purgatory Fubar Converse or Snafu 20:19, 13 May 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Helping you out

[edit]

I am going to help you out. First your user name is in violation Of User Names you can request a new user name Here Please read the following; Do not insult the vandals, Please do not bite the newcomers, Civility and remember to sign your post.

After you read all the above then go here Warning templates. Remember to always warn user with the appropriate template first, not just with the last warning. Need any more help just leave me a message on my talk page. Happy editing! Purgatory Fubar Converse or Snafu 20:56, 13 May 2007 (UTC)[reply]

[edit]

Sorry I didn't see this sooner -- generally people add to the bottom of a talk page, offset with a new title, so that's where I look for additions. You can reply either way. Sometimes user A may reply on the user B's talk page because user A suspects that user B isn't "watching" user A's page. But it's not necessary. I'm copying this comment over to your talk page right now, because you might not see it. :-) Madeleine 22:59, 13 May 2007 (UTC)[reply]

PS -- I agree you should change your username asap, it was confusing to me with the first edits you made...Madeleine 22:59, 13 May 2007 (UTC)[reply]

No Probs.. :)

[edit]

Hey PW. No problem. I left a vandalism warning on the idiot's talk page, too. Time to grow up, eh? Cheers, and glad to be of help. (Actually, it was kinda cool. I never edited anyone else's main page before!). Esseh 01:36, 15 May 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Hi, I noticed you undid the edit made to Blah, but if you looked a bit closer the previous edit was still a test/vandalism version, so I had to dig a bit further back to find the last good version. No worries this time, just try to remember that sometimes vandalisms pile up :) Confusing Manifestation 02:36, 15 May 2007 (UTC)[reply]

No problems. Uh, but next time, please try to refrain from adding comments such as "kill yourself" to the warning template, too. I consider that to be uncivil and bad faith, and don't exactly spread the love. Confusing Manifestation 02:41, 15 May 2007 (UTC)[reply]

DNA fingerprints and twins

[edit]

I guess you didn't read my response to your statement on my talk page... identical twins have the same DNA fingerprints (since they have the same DNA) and differences between their actual finger tip prints. The environmental differences are random influences during development in the womb, you're correct that it's confusing and makes it sound like later life experiences change fingertip fingerprints, but shouldn't be replaced by a wrong statement claiming the DNA fingerprints are different. Here's a page which might help: http://www.hhmi.org/cgi-bin/askascientist/highlight.pl?kw=&file=answers%2Fgenetics%2Fans_018.html I've removed the statement entirely, since it's obviously confusing and misleading, we need to think of a better example to describe how genetics doesn't determine everything... tell me if you have any favorite examples... Huh?

[edit]

You mean I cannot delete old stuff off my own talk page? That was my IP address that is in the page history. Clinevol98 18:39, 17 May 2007 (UTC)[reply]
