Notice

The article Page/Endnotes Guide for Infinite Jest has been proposed for deletion because of the following concern:

Per WP:NOTDATABASE, "Wikipedia is not an indiscriminate collection of information".

While all constructive contributions to Wikipedia are appreciated, pages may be deleted for any of several reasons.

You may prevent the proposed deletion by removing the {{proposed deletion/dated}} notice, but please explain why in your edit summary or on the article's talk page.

Please consider improving the page to address the issues raised. Removing {{proposed deletion/dated}} will stop the proposed deletion process, but other deletion processes exist. In particular, the speedy deletion process can result in deletion without discussion, and articles for deletion allows discussion to reach consensus for deletion. Yes, this is my first submitted Wikipedia page. I did provide an explanation of what this list represents. My source was the published hardbound and paperbound editions of Infinite Jest by David Foster Wallace.
I found the correlation between Endnote number and Page number to be a very useful guide while reading this 1000 page novel.
This is particularly useful to those who are listening to the audiobook where the endnote number is inserted into the recorded reading in the text at the appropriate place, but the endnote itself is not read, leaving the listener to refer to the hardcopy of the book. Finding where the endnote is in the body of the novel is important to provide invaluable context for that endnote.
I would like to work with the Wikipedia team to bring this reference into compliance.

Warning

[edit]

Hello, Puzzledrat,

You seem to have had an account for years but you still don't seem to understand what Wikipedia is. It's an encyclopedia for referenced articles about notable subjects. Your own personal observations about a work of literature is not what this platform is intended for. You might have some interesting observations but this content is suitable for a personal website or blog, not an encyclopedia. It will eventually be deleted by a patrolling administrator but I'd like to discourage you from creating articles like this that will never be accepted into main space.

If you have questions about the purpose of Wikipedia or its many policies and guidelines, please bring them to the Teahouse which is available for providing answers to all editors by more experienced editors. Thank you. Liz Read! Talk! 01:52, 27 February 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Thank you, I appreciate your feedback. I created this cross-reference when I could find nothing of the kind on the Internet, and I felt it would be very useful to readers of the novel.
Yes, I am new at creating my own page, though I have made several additions on existing page. I naturally made the judgment that placing the index in the main Infinite Jest page would be too unwieldy. Puzzledrat (talk) 01:56, 27 February 2024 (UTC)[reply]
@Puzzledrat: I've gone ahead and moved your page to userspace, since it was done in good faith and there seems to be no apparent need for deletion. Just make sure you create all of your personal essays and reflections in userspace as per WP:USERESSAY. Thank you. CycloneYoris talk! 02:23, 27 February 2024 (UTC)[reply]
I saw your question about this in the Teahouse archives. I'm surprised no one suggested Wikipedia:Alternative outlets. What you have done sounds like a valuable resource but it is not what Wikipedia does.— Vchimpanzee • talk • contributions • 17:09, 14 November 2024 (UTC)[reply]
