Offer to help

[edit]

Hello! I see you trying to make productive contributions to the project. I am wondering if I can be of any help to you. I might be able to answer your questions, or point you into a good direction to get answers. I would also offer my help as a copy editor for your additions. I am available if you think I might be able to assist you. Please respond here, on your talk page. I will get an alert when you post here. Hamster Sandwich (talk) 15:48, 17 December 2018 (UTC)[reply]

(talk), Thank you. Regarding the article for David E Shaner, Yesterday I submitted a revision on Talk:David E. Shaner/Temp and made a comment on the talk page for David E Shaner. I also wrote a note on the person who put the copyvio on David E Shaner letting them know I had done the above. I wanted to confirm that there was not anything else I needed to do to get the copyvio reviewed.

Thank you

19:01, 17 December 2018 (UTC)

Could you post links to any relevant pages you would like me to look at? I have a few things going on, so just to save time, and also to have the links here in one place. Also to post your name with four tildes (~'s) in a row at the end of your post? Thanks in advance! Hamster Sandwich (talk) 19:25, 17 December 2018 (UTC)[reply]

Hamster Sandwich, Thank you for the help. Here is the rewrite for David E Shaner, https://wiki.riteme.site/wiki/Talk%3ADavid_E._Shaner%2FTemp. This is the one I am trying to get the copyvio concerns address so the copyvio can be removed from the main article, https://wiki.riteme.site/wiki/David_E._Shaner.

Regards

(Ptarry (talk) 21:30, 17 December 2018 (UTC))[reply]

Thanks for providing those links. I read that there are copyright violations, but I don't know what they are exactly. I've seen several attempts to get the article into mainspace and you appear to address the issues at every stage. Can you clarify for me, what is the exact problem? What part of that article is causing the hangup? Maybe we just need to rewrite a small part to avoid a copyright vio. Thanks, Hamster Sandwich (talk) 21:53, 17 December 2018 (UTC)[reply]

Hamster Sandwich, The prior version of the article, https://wiki.riteme.site/w/index.php?title=David_E._Shaner&oldid=866913237, was very similar to the David E Shaner bio. at http://davidshaner.com/davidbio.html. That is the reason for the copyvio. The rewrite on https://wiki.riteme.site/wiki/Talk%3ADavid_E._Shaner%2FTemp is my attempt to address the copyvio. Per the instructions on the current David E Shaner post, https://wiki.riteme.site/wiki/David_E._Shaner, I am waiting for it to be, "resolved by an administrator, copyright clerk or OTRS agent." I assume this is a smaller subset of the Wikipedia community so takes time for one of them to get to it. Is there a way to see if it's in the que for review? Thanks

(Ptarry (talk) 13:46, 18 December 2018 (UTC))[reply]

I think you've done everything the right way, and now as you say "It's all over but the waiting". Let me know how it eventually goes on my talk page, and if it needs anymore work, we'll dive in together. Since there was no problem with notability, it's just a matter of rewriting the text to avoid copy-vios. Cheers! Hamster Sandwich (talk) 18:58, 18 December 2018 (UTC)[reply]
I added the link Talk:David E. Shaner/Temp at the talk page where the review is taking place. It's a good addition, and I don't see any issues with WP:BLP, but that's a minefield! I tend to write aricles like Hermes 3000 and Moon and Sand (Kenny Burrell album). Topics about things, or long dead people who can't complain about their Wikipedia article! But I think it's important to help new editors too. WP can be a pretty grumpy place if you run into the wrong editors! Anything else you need, please feel free to ask. Cheer! Hamster Sandwich (talk) 20:04, 18 December 2018 (UTC)[reply]

Administrator, I am working to get the copyvio removed from David E Shaner article (Biography of a Living Person), I have place a rewrite at https://wiki.riteme.site/wiki/Talk:David_E._Shaner/Temp, and flagged it at https://wiki.riteme.site/wiki/Wikipedia:Copyright_problems/2018_November_2. How do I get and Administrator to review?

Thank you

(Ptarry (talk) 20:07, 24 December 2018 (UTC))

@UserPtarry I think there might be a problem using so much of Shaner's own writing as material cited in that article. Is it possible for you to do a re-write and omit the material you gleaned from Shaner's own books? Cheers! Hamster Sandwich (talk) 15:17, 25 December 2018 (UTC)[reply]
  • I added several more reference from outside of Shaner's book, which should allow his reference to remain as they become much less of the sole source. Thanks for the advice. (Ptarry (talk) 19:31, 28 December 2018 (UTC))[reply]
  • Addendum: Your draft article was redirected to "draft space" from the article talk page by another editor at my request. When I'm creating articles I usually start by creating a draft in the "Sandbox" page. When it's ready to submit I just hit the "Create Article" button. I have just written articles "from scratch" as well, but it's been easier for me to cover larger topics in a draft space. Hope that helped. Hamster Sandwich (talk) 17:03, 25 December 2018 (UTC)[reply]
  • Does the article now have to be "published" for approval now i.e., moved out of draft, or does it remain here until an administrator comes to review and release it? Thanks (Ptarry (talk) 19:31, 28 December 2018 (UTC))[reply]
If you are certain that all of the issues that have been pointed out regarding copyright vios. have been fixed, I think there is a button on the draft page that says "Create article". Or, you could find an uninvolved administrator to help remove the tags that are on the article page, and they can move it for you. Good luck!
