Elders Limited
[edit]Hi! That was/is a good idea of yours to attack the text in the article - I hadn't noticed how "flowery" and over-the-top it is/was. (It's almost certainly a copyvio!) Good work.
However, I would caution you to exercise a bit more care. For example:
The article said: This decade was the crowning glory of Robert Barr Smith. < ... > Even though he was now in his eighties, Barr Smith also found the time to launch Elders Trustee and Executor Limited and then expand the still vital resources interests by forming Elders Metal and Mercantile in Melbourne.
You changed it to: Now in his eighties, Barr Smith launched Elders Trustee and Executor Limited and then expanded the still vital resources interests by forming Elders Metal and Mercantile in Melbourne.
Which Barr Smith? I suggest: "Now in his eighties, Robert Barr Smith launched Elders Trustee and Executor Limited and then expanded the still vital resources interests by forming Elders Metal and Mercantile in Melbourne." Your thoughts?
Similarly: Profits more than doubled from 1918 to 1928, with Peter Waite as chairman until his death in 1922, followed by Tom Elder Barr Smith, son of Robert, as chairman. vs Elders profits more than doubled from 1918 to 1928, with Peter Waite as chairman until his death in 1922, followed by Tom Elder Barr Smith, son of Robert. The original wasn't perfect, but your new version is slightly ambiguous, and slightly unclear.
And there are several other examples. In hindsite, there is now no doubt that the article needed "pruning", and has been improved by your "pruning", but could you please review your edits? (We don't want to "throw the baby out with the bath-water".) In case the above sounds too negative, let me emphasise that the majority of your work has vastly improved the article, and almost certainly has gotten rid of the majority of what was almost certainly a copyvio. Thank you very much. Please keep up the good work. Cheers, Pdfpdf (talk) 14:07, 8 February 2013 (UTC)
