Hello, and welcome to Wikipedia. Although everyone is welcome to contribute to Wikipedia, introducing inappropriate pages, such as Encyclopedia SpongeBobia, is not in accordance with our policies. If you would like to experiment, please use the sandbox. Under section G3 of the criteria for speedy deletion, the page has been nominated for deletion.

If you think this page should not be deleted for this reason, you may contest the nomination by visiting the page and clicking the button labelled "Contest this speedy deletion". This will give you the opportunity to explain why you believe the page should not be deleted. However, be aware that once a page is tagged for speedy deletion, it may be deleted without delay. Hello, ProClasher97. I wanted to let you know that I’m proposing an article that you started, Encyclopedia SpongeBobia, for deletion because I don't think it meets our criteria for inclusion. If you don't want the article deleted:

  1. edit the page
  2. remove the text that looks like this: {{proposed deletion/dated...}}
  3. save the page

Also, be sure to explain why you think the article should be kept in your edit summary or on the article's talk page. If you don't do so, it may be deleted later anyway.

You can leave a note on my talk page if you have questions.

Tick Fire moved to draftspace

[edit]

An article you recently created, Tick Fire, does not have enough sources and citations as written to remain published. It needs more citations from reliable, independent sources. (?) Information that can't be referenced should be removed (verifiability is of central importance on Wikipedia). I've moved your draft to draftspace (with a prefix of "Draft:" before the article title) where you can incubate the article with minimal disruption. When you feel the article meets Wikipedia's general notability guideline and thus is ready for mainspace, please click on the "Submit your draft for review!" button at the top of the page. ProClasher97 and Koridas, actually a large number of editors place barnstars onto the user page (or a subpage thereof) and PC97 might just have been misled. Why do you and Sun Dawn keep removing my edit on Alex Fergusson? My name is Sandy Robertson (username sandy crowley) and I was in the Nobodies with Alex, moved to London with him in 1976 and knew him since we were 15. I remember his German girlfriend and when I was in Renfrew in 2012 for my father's funeral I visited his relatives and they told he he now had twin boys and showed me letters from him. "See filter"?

[edit]

Hi ProClasher97,

which "filter" are you referring to in your reports at WP:AIV? Do you mean the normal contribution list, such as Special:Contributions/ProClasher97? That's not a "filter". A filter log looks like this: https://wiki.riteme.site/w/index.php?title=Special:AbuseLog&wpSearchUser=ProClasher97

Stop updating midway through ties

[edit]

Please read WP:LIVESCORES and not repeating what you have done in MLS is Back Tournament. Here is the section you should read: "The current consensus is to not add visible match or frame scores to an article until the match or tie is completed. Wikipedia should only record the results of the match, and is not a live scoring service as Wikipedia is not the place for news reports." If you want to add them, add comment ( see the symbols in the code) to comply with the visible thing. Thanks. Flix11 (talk) 04:20, 13 July 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Vandalism only accounts

[edit]

Hey there, if you report users for being vandalism-only accounts, make sure they're sufficiently warned. Unless the vandalism is especially egregious or they're obviously a sockpuppet or long-term abuse case, usually it's better to go down the uw-vand series (1-4) first before reporting, or at least make sure that the users receive a final level warning before reporting. bibliomaniac15 03:46, 25 July 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Ok. Sorry about that. I’ll make sure that they’ve been warned enough before reporting from now on. Thanks for the reminder! ProClasher97 ~ Have A Question? 04:50, 25 July 2020 (UTC)[reply]

WP:UAA reports on users with no edits

[edit]

Generally, there is no reason to report usernames with no edits whatsoever. Per WP:UAAI: "Wait until the user edits. Do not report a user that hasn't edited unless they are clearly a vandal. We do not want to welcome productive editors with a report at UAA, nor do we want to waste our time dealing with accounts that may never be used." The exceptions are obvious hate speech or names that attack a living person/Wikipedia editor, those are blockable even without any edits, but other run-of-the-mill violations such as names of organizations or products need not be reported unless and until they at least attempt to edit, and you should be able to clearly explain what the problem is if it is not immediately evident.

For whatever reason, every day dozens, if not hundreds of accounts are created that never make one single edit. It is our responsibility as admins to conscientiously review every report a user makes at UAA, so we have to check for contribs, deleted contribs, and tripping of the edit filter for every one of these reports, only to find out there's nothing there and therefore no problem to be solved. That's time that could be spent doing more productive things, but you basically obligate admins to do it by making such reports. Beeblebrox (talk) 23:54, 31 July 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Specifically, in the case of the "bot" name you reported, four minutes after your report they made edits indicating they were in fact asking to be approved as a bot. (they didn't exactly nail it, but they appear to be acting in good faith.) Beeblebrox (talk) 00:37, 1 August 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Ok. Sorry about that. I should probably wait longer until I report just to make sure that the report is necessary. Sorry about any inconvenience I may have caused with this. Thanks for the reminder. ProClasher97 ~ Have A Question? 03:20, 1 August 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Warning levels

[edit]

FYI your warning for this user was rather inappropriate. A level 2 (cautionary) warning was needed in this case, not a level 1 since I already had left a level 1 warning above for adding unsourced content. Please take note of this for future reference, so the appropriate warnings are added if a user keeps vandalizing. Thanks. CycloneYoris talk! 02:19, 10 September 2020 (UTC)[reply]

That warning wasn’t for the unsourced content. That warning was for the the disruptive edits that this user was making, such as this edit. Sorry if this caused any confusion. ProClasher97 ~ Have A Question? 02:29, 10 September 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Attacks on my talk

[edit]

Hey,

Thanks for reverting all of them personal attacks on my talkpage! I have absolutely no idea what that was all about as I have never had any interactions with said user, and geolocating their IP from the first attack, before they logged in, puts them nowhere near my location so it seems unlikely I know them personally!

It was pretty odd to wake up to 12 notifications, but certainly much nicer to see that someone had removed the posts, rather than waking up to just see the attacks. So thanks for that!

Curt 内蒙 07:12, 13 September 2020 (UTC)[reply]

No problem. I don’t know why they felt the need to vandalise your talk page seeing as they never edited anything else, but all of their edits got reverted, and they ended up getting blocked. [edit]

Why you delete the new link from https://wiki.riteme.site/wiki/Scientific_echosounder? Echologger also produces echosounders used scientifically. Please see their huge reference of universities and academic institutes.

@Echsounder: the reason I deleted the links was because they are unnecessary for Wikipedia. They are only being used to promote a company, and therefore, according to the “Links normally to be avoided” section listed here, are deemed inappropriate for Wikipedia. ProClasher97 ~ Have A Question? 04:33, 29 September 2020 (UTC)[reply]

To follow up on a similar deletion, I saw similar companies using the external link sections, such as on Wikipedia's pages for United States Labor Law (https://wiki.riteme.site/wiki/United_States_labor_law). I don't see why my link would be any different than this one. Thanks for any guidance on this. FedLaw76 (talk) 05:22, 4 December 2020 (UTC)[reply]

@FedLaw76: The links were deleted because they seemed to serve no other purpose than to promote a company. It’s ok to use external links, as long as they aren’t added with the sole intention of promotion. If the links help add to the information in the article, then it would be ok to use them. If you need additional information or assistance, you can read more information here, or you could visit the Teahouse and ask a question there. Also, you seem to have a personal opinion on the subject, and possibly the city he is notable in, based on the way your addition is structured. Articles for Creation @ JaackMaate

[edit]

You left a note saying that YouTube and Twitter are not reliable sources. While I agree with you, the YouTube video linked and the tweet I sourced are from JaackMaate himself. Therefore, this renders your note invalid. I also understand that the Daily Mail is not a reliable source, which is why it says better citation needed. I'd appreciate it if you could re-review the article. Many thanks, TheWeekdayz (talk) 01:17, 10 July 2021 (UTC)[reply]

@TheWeekdayz: Ok. I’ve gone back in and looked back at the article. I also went back and reviewed the BLP policy, especially the part about self-published sources. And you are right. It says that you shouldn’t use these sources unless written or published by the subject of the article Which, as you pointed out, is the case here. I also did a search on the subject, and I found that there were several instances of coverage by the British media. Which, as NBIO points out, the only real requirements to meet basic criteria are that the subject has multiple published secondary sources that are reliable, intellectually independent of each other, and independent of the subject. And news articles that have no personal connection or affiliation with the subject, and are not connected to other media sources, would, in fact, meet the criteria required for notability. So other than some potential cleanup (with the better citation needed) and perhaps adding some sources to the lead and “Early life” sections, I see absolutely no reason why this article can’t be accepted, since it meets Wikipedia’s notability guidelines. Why are the four citations mentioned in the draft said to be unreliable?

Excellenc1📞 14:58, 22 July 2021 (UTC)[reply]

@Excellenc1: Most of the judgement was based on the fact that nothing had changed since Qwerfjkl declined the draft the first time. What I noticed after looking at the four sources was that one of them appeared to be a list of the members (source #1) and one of them was a primary source (source #3). The other two were mostly about the President of this council and the election and re-election of himself and the Vice Presidents. The context issues that we tagged it with are simply because the article doesn’t really explain things like what they do or specific things about them, so for people (like myself) who are unfamiliar with them, it’s hard to understand exactly what this council/department does. Adrastus Lobbying Firm

[edit]

Hi, when you see drafts like Draft:Adrastus Lobbying Firm with that sort of promo language its highly likely to be a copyright violation. I make a point of always doing a check on such drafts. Cheers KylieTastic (talk) 15:01, 30 July 2021 (UTC)[reply]

@KylieTastic: That’s my fault. I looked at the draft and saw the promo language, and I immediately assumed G11, without taking a moment to check and see if it was a copyvio. I normally do try to do this (especially if they link to the official website where I can check the “about us” sections that they tend to have and see if they just copied everything on the page and pasted it into the article), and if they don’t I normally throw the page into Earwig’s detector to check it that way, but I guess it just slipped my mind on this particular occasion. A tag has been placed on The Jason Diaries requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done under section R2 of the criteria for speedy deletion, because it is a redirect from the article namespace to a different namespace except the Category, Template, Wikipedia, Help, or Portal namespaces.

ArbCom 2021 Elections voter message

[edit]
Hello! Voting in the 2021 Arbitration Committee elections is now open until 23:59 (UTC) on Monday, 6 December 2021. All eligible users are allowed to vote. Users with alternate accounts may only vote once.

The Arbitration Committee is the panel of editors responsible for conducting the Wikipedia arbitration process. It has the authority to impose binding solutions to disputes between editors, primarily for serious conduct disputes the community has been unable to resolve. This includes the authority to impose site bans, topic bans, editing restrictions, and other measures needed to maintain our editing environment. The arbitration policy describes the Committee's roles and responsibilities in greater detail.

If you wish to participate in the 2021 election, please review the candidates and submit your choices on the voting page. If you no longer wish to receive these messages, you may add {{NoACEMM}} to your user talk page. MediaWiki message delivery (talk) 00:54, 23 November 2021 (UTC)[reply]

AMS 2 page

[edit]

Dear ProClasher,

I wanted to write a better page for AMS 2. With 100% objective. No subjective stuff, good sources, no opinions, no nothing. Just 100% how it is. With good, bad and neutral things. But I seems you think I am COI. Perhaps I should have chosen my username better. Not smart of me. I can live with deleting of changelogs, but not with removing game modes, features and the reception. I am sad. I put hours innit in the layout, being 100% objective and eventually people started to noticing the AMS 2 wiki was updated and started to add more things, like Carguy whom surprisely added better sentences due his English-skills.

I wish you a merry Christmas,

WP:AFC Helper News

[edit]

Hello! I wanted to drop a quick note for all of our AFC participants; nothing huge and fancy like a newsletter, but a few points of interest.

  • AFCH will now show live previews of the comment to be left on a decline.
  • The template {{db-afc-move}} has been created - this template is similar to {{db-move}} when there is a redirect in the way of an acceptance, but specifically tells the patrolling admin to let you (the draft reviewer) take care of the actual move.

Short and sweet, but there's always more to discuss at WT:AFC. Stop on by, maybe review a draft on the way? Whether you're one of our top reviewers, or haven't reviewed in a while, I want to thank you for helping out in the past and in the future. I think it would better if you did not engage with the user. I know you are trying to help, but the user's mindset will prevent any kind of reasonable dialogue. Thanks.--Bbb23 (talk) 17:55, 3 July 2022 (UTC)[reply]

@Bbb23: Ok, that makes sense. I was just trying to calm the user down so we could try to talk with him and explain to him why his page was deleted, but he seems to think we are coming after small countries. It seems like he doesn’t really want to cooperate with us, and every time I try to explain it to him, he continues his yelling and other things like this. He does keep pinging me back to his page, but I’ll start ignoring if he tries to start yelling at me again. Unless he says something really bad or offensive, in which case I won’t hesitate to inform you or another admin (but I won’t say anything on his talk page). Thanks for the advice! ProClasher97 ~ Have A Question? 18:06, 3 July 2022 (UTC)[reply]

@Bbb23: By the way, it turns out that as I was writing this, he directed another personal attack towards me (I got the message immediately after I wrote my response to you), but as promised, I’m not going to engage with him. You can see what he wrote if you would like. I guess if it were to get really bad, we could always just revoke his TPA, but obviously, that decision is ultimately up to the admins. Unconstructive English Edits

Thank you @ProClasher97 for your remarks about my English edits. I thought the page was writing about American issues and the English spellings used were not American hence my correction. New page reviewer granted

[edit]

Hi ProClasher97. Your account has been added to the "New page reviewers" user group. Please check back at WP:PERM in case your user right is time limited or probationary. This user group allows you to review new pages through the Curation system and mark them as patrolled, tag them for maintenance issues, or nominate them for deletion. The list of articles awaiting review is located at the New Pages Feed. New page reviewing is vital to maintaining the integrity of the encyclopedia. If you have not already done so, you must read the tutorial at New Pages Review, the linked guides and essays, and fully understand the deletion policy. If you need any help or want to discuss the process, you are welcome to use the new page reviewer talk page. In addition, please remember:

  • Be nice to new editors. They are usually not aware that they are doing anything wrong. Do make use of the message feature when tagging pages for maintenance so that they are aware.
  • You will frequently be asked by users to explain why their page is being deleted. Please be formal and polite in your approach to them – even if they are not.
  • If you are not sure what to do with a page, don't review it – just leave it for another reviewer.
  • Accuracy is more important than speed. Take your time to patrol each page. Use the message feature to communicate with article creators and offer advice as much as possible.

The reviewer right does not change your status or how you can edit articles. If you no longer want this user right, you also may ask any administrator to remove it for you at any time. In cases of abuse or persistent inaccuracy of reviewing, or long-term inactivity, the right may be withdrawn at administrator discretion. Arbitrarily0 (talk) 13:22, 5 July 2022 (UTC)[reply]

Hi, it is not biased to report on the recent findings of it's origins and the backlash that many asian women are giving due to the issues with racism. It is not biased to report how people felt because it is not my personal opinion. If I were the one to write my personal opinions as a Japanese woman, I would have blamed the man who created it. No? Please do not remove my edits or you can improve on it. Just in case it seemed bias for you, I tried to delete some more words but I do not think that reporting how a certain group of people felt is biased because those are their feelings and not mine. Rollback granted

[edit]

I have granted the "rollbacker" permission to your account. After a review of some of your contributions, I believe you can be trusted to use rollback for its intended usage of reverting vandalism, and that you will not abuse it by reverting good-faith edits or to revert-war. For information on rollback, see Wikipedia:Administrators' guide/Rollback and Wikipedia:Rollback feature. If you do not want rollback, contact me and I will remove it. Marked blocked/locked script

[edit]

You might find the markedblocked / markedlocked script(s) useful — they visually show you if an account is already blocked/locked you can turn markedblocked (option "Strike out usernames that have been blocked") on in your preferences, whereas markedlocked is a user script you have to install by adding:

mw.loader.load('//wiki.riteme.site/w/index.php?title=User:GeneralNotability/mark-locked.js&action=raw&ctype=text/javascript');

to your common.js.

You'll then notice blocked (top) and locked (bottom) accounts show like this:

New Page Patrol newsletter August 2022

[edit]
New Page Review queue August 2022

Hello ProClasher97,

Backlog status

After the last newsletter (No.28, June 2022), the backlog declined another 1,000 to 13,000 in the last week of June. Then the July backlog drive began, during which 9,900 articles were reviewed and the backlog fell by 4,500 to just under 8,500 (these numbers illustrate how many new articles regularly flow into the queue). Thanks go to the coordinators Buidhe and Zippybonzo, as well as all the nearly 100 participants. Congratulations to Dr vulpes who led with 880 points. See this page for further details.

Unfortunately, most of the decline happened in the first half of the month, and the backlog has already risen to 9,600. Understandably, it seems many backlog drive participants are taking a break from reviewing and unfortunately, we are not even keeping up with the inflow let alone driving it lower. We need the other 600 reviewers to do more! Please try to do at least one a day.

Coordination
MB and Novem Linguae have taken on some of the coordination tasks. Please let them know if you are interested in helping out. MPGuy2824 will be handling recognition, and will be retroactively awarding the annual barnstars that have not been issued for a few years.
Open letter to the WMF
The Page Curation software needs urgent attention. There are dozens of bug fixes and enhancements that are stalled (listed at Suggested improvements). We have written a letter to be sent to the WMF and we encourage as many patrollers as possible to sign it here. We are also in negotiation with the Board of Trustees to press for assistance. Better software will make the active reviewers we have more productive.
TIP - Reviewing by subject
Reviewers who prefer to patrol new pages by their most familiar subjects can do so from the regularly updated sorted topic list.
New reviewers
The NPP School is being underused. The learning curve for NPP is quite steep, but a detailed and easy-to-read tutorial exists, and the Curation Tool's many features are fully described and illustrated on the updated page here.
Reminders
  • Consider staying informed on project issues by putting the project discussion page on your watchlist.
  • If you have noticed a user with a good understanding of Wikipedia notability and deletion, suggest they help the effort by placing {{subst:NPR invite}} on their talk page.
  • If you are no longer very active on Wikipedia or you no longer wish to be part of the New Page Reviewer user group, please consider asking any admin to remove you from the list. This will enable NPP to have a better overview of its performance and what improvements need to be made to the process and its software.
  • To opt-out of future mailings, please remove yourself here.

Wow

[edit]

Hello, ProClasher97,

I came here after leaving a message on Nourlyna 98's talk page and noticed that you were communicating with them about an article with problems. So, I use a lot of scripts and one of the ones I have strikes through the signature/names of blocked editors so you can easily see when an editor has been blocked,. And when I came to your talk page I couldn't help but notice, wow!, a lot of editors who end up being blocked come to your talk page looking for help. I'm not sure if you were aware of this. I didn't look into their stories, to see whether they were sockpuppets or editors blocked for being disruptive. But thanks for being open and communicating with new editors, of all types. There are some editors who don't engage on their user talk page with unfamiliar editors and I think it is great that you do, even when the editor turns out not to have the best interests of the project at heart. Liz Read! Talk! 02:04, 16 August 2022 (UTC)[reply]

@Liz: Thanks! I am a firm believer in believing that any editor can (at least has the ability to) contribute in a meaningful way to benefit Wikipedia (whether they actually do, of course, is their choice), and I think it’s important to help teach newer and less experienced editors the basic policies they need to know in order to try and help them develop their editing skills. If I notice that somebody is trying to contribute by doing something that doesn’t follow one of the policies (such as adding unsourced content, adding copyvios, etc.), I always make sure I let them know what they’re doing wrong and try to point them in the right direction. And if they reach out to me, I am always willing to help them out, because after all, we all start off somewhere, and I believe that a little help can do people a lot of good.
Oh yeah, and regarding some of the blocked editors, I did happen to notice that a lot of them end up getting blocked (and some of them do appear to be sockpuppets and LTAs, and I do report them if I happen to recognize them), but like I said, I’m always willing to communicate with these editors if they ever would like to talk with me, regardless of what the situation might be. New Page Patrol newsletter October 2022

[edit]

Hello ProClasher97,

Much has happened since the last newsletter over two months ago. The open letter finished with 444 signatures. The letter was sent to several dozen people at the WMF, and we have heard that it is being discussed but there has been no official reply. A related article appears in the current issue of The Signpost. If you haven't seen it, you should, including the readers' comment section.

Awards: Barnstars were given for the past several years (thanks to MPGuy2824), and we are now all caught up. The 2021 cup went to John B123 for leading with 26,525 article reviews during 2021. To encourage moderate activity, a new "Iron" level barnstar is awarded annually for reviewing 360 articles ("one-a-day"), and 100 reviews earns the "Standard" NPP barnstar. About 90 reviewers received barnstars for each of the years 2018 to 2021 (including the new awards that were given retroactively). All awards issued for every year are listed on the Awards page. Check out the new Hall of Fame also.

Software news: Novem Linguae and MPGuy2824 have connected with WMF developers who can review and approve patches, so they have been able to fix some bugs, and make other improvements to the Page Curation software. You can see everything that has been fixed recently here. The reviewer report has also been improved.

NPP backlog May – October 15, 2022

Suggestions:

  • There is much enthusiasm over the low backlog, but remember that the "quality and depth of patrolling are more important than speed".
  • Reminder: an article should not be tagged for any kind of deletion for a minimum of 15 minutes after creation and it is often appropriate to wait an hour or more. (from the NPP tutorial)
  • Reviewers should focus their effort where it can do the most good, reviewing articles. Other clean-up tasks that don't require advanced permissions can be left to other editors that routinely improve articles in these ways (creating Talk Pages, specifying projects and ratings, adding categories, etc.) Let's rely on others when it makes the most sense. On the other hand, if you enjoy doing these tasks while reviewing and it keeps you engaged with NPP (or are guiding a newcomer), then by all means continue.
  • This user script puts a link to the feed in your top toolbar.

Backlog:

Saving the best for last: From a July low of 8,500, the backlog climbed back to 11,000 in August and then reversed in September dropping to below 6,000 and continued falling with the October backlog drive to under 1,000, a level not seen in over four years. Keep in mind that there are 2,000 new articles every week, so the number of reviews is far higher than the backlog reduction. To keep the backlog under a thousand, we have to keep reviewing at about half the recent rate!

Reminders
  • Newsletter feedback - please take this short poll about the newsletter.
  • If you're interested in instant messaging and chat rooms, please join us on the New Page Patrol Discord, where you can ask for help and live chat with other patrollers.
  • Please add the project discussion page to your watchlist.
  • If you are no longer very active on Wikipedia or you no longer wish to be a reviewer, please ask any admin to remove you from the group. If you want the tools back again, just ask at PERM.
  • To opt out of future mailings, please remove yourself here.

How to report possible BKFIP account

[edit]

Hello,

Firstly I wish to thank you with your previous help in relation to the Shping99 situation, it is much appreciated. Currently there is an IP address continuing under the same behaviour on the Navan page which I suspect may be another account of BKFIP, I went to try and report it to the sockpuppet board so someone could investigate but realised I don't know how to do that. The form asks for the 'sockmaster,' do I put BKFIP in that box and then fill out the forum? It seems I need to report some sort of original account first before filling in the other information.

Any insight is appreciated for future reference. I hope you have a good day. Dubarr18 (talk) 17:07, 5 November 2022 (UTC)[reply]

Hi @Dubarr18:

When I made the report, I just typed in Best known for IP in the sockmaster’s box, and that will automatically bring up their case page because they have already had several cases involving their account in the archives. You can just type that into the sockmaster’s box, and then fill out the form as normal. ProClasher97 ~ Have A Question? 06:48, 6 November 2022 (UTC)[reply]

[edit]

Hi,

You left a note on my Mary Adams Holmes page about tone. That was is first wikipedia page and I tried my best to model it after other pages. Maybe the introduction involves too much praise and I should focus more on the facts? Any feedback is helpful. I want advice because I want to make sure it stays up? Is there any chance it could be taken down for tone issues? Macksomers (talk) 08:18, 6 November 2022 (UTC)[reply]

@Macksomers: The article as a whole seems like it was written from a non-neutral point of view. Some of the wording in the various sections made it sound like the intent of the article was to promote the subject. Because it seems like it is more of a neutrality-based issue rather than a blatantly promotional one, I felt it would be better to leave that tag than simply have it deleted, and I think that if the neutral tone issues are resolved, than the page should be able to stay. I recommend you read the policy about neutral point of view to help you gain a better understanding about how to write in a more neutral tone as you continue to create the article. New Pages Patrol newsletter January 2023

[edit]

Hello ProClasher97,

New Page Review queue December 2022
Backlog

The October drive reduced the backlog from 9,700 to an amazing 0! Congratulations to WaddlesJP13 who led with 2084 points. See this page for further details. The queue is steadily rising again and is approaching 2,000. It would be great if <2,000 were the “new normal”. Please continue to help out even if it's only for a few or even one patrol a day.

2022 Awards

Onel5969 won the 2022 cup for 28,302 article reviews last year - that's an average of nearly 80/day. There was one Gold Award (5000+ reviews), 11 Silver (2000+), 28 Iron (360+) and 39 more for the 100+ barnstar. Rosguill led again for the 4th year by clearing 49,294 redirects. For the full details see the Awards page and the Hall of Fame. Congratulations everyone!

Minimum deletion time: The previous WP:NPP guideline was to wait 15 minutes before tagging for deletion (including draftification and WP:BLAR). Due to complaints, a consensus decided to raise the time to 1 hour. To illustrate this, very new pages in the feed are now highlighted in red. (As always, this is not applicable to attack pages, copyvios, vandalism, etc.)

New draftify script: In response to feedback from AFC, the The Move to Draft script now provides a choice of set messages that also link the creator to a new, friendly explanation page. The script also warns reviewers if the creator is probably still developing the article. The former script is no longer maintained. Please edit your edit your common.js or vector.js file from User:Evad37/MoveToDraft.js to User:MPGuy2824/MoveToDraft.js

Redirects: Some of our redirect reviewers have reduced their activity and the backlog is up to 9,000+ (two months deep). If you are interested in this distinctly different task and need any help, see this guide, this checklist, and spend some time at WP:RFD.

Discussions with the WMF The PageTriage open letter signed by 444 users is bearing fruit. The Growth Team has assigned some software engineers to work on PageTriage, the software that powers the NewPagesFeed and the Page Curation toolbar. WMF has submitted dozens of patches in the last few weeks to modernize PageTriage's code, which will make it easier to write patches in the future. This work is helpful but is not very visible to the end user. For patches visible to the end user, volunteers such as Novem Linguae and MPGuy2824 have been writing patches for bug reports and feature requests. The Growth Team also had a video conference with the NPP coordinators to discuss revamping the landing pages that new users see.

User you reported to WP:UAA

[edit]

Hi. The user APAAcademy (talk · contribs · deleted contribs · logs · filter log · block user · block log) you reported to WP:UAA, then removed from the list after their statement that they'd be happy to change their name, doesn't yet appear to have made that request (although I may be missing something). Just a heads up 🙂 Fred Gandt · talk · contribs 08:13, 30 January 2023 (UTC)[reply]

@Fred Gandt: Yeah, after they said that they would be happy to change their username, I removed the report and then directed them to where they could request a username change. [2] I assume they may have logged off (since they haven’t made any edits since), but I’ll keep watching it. Thanks for the heads up though! ProClasher97 ~ Have A Question? 08:26, 30 January 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Thank you all. I have made a request for a change of username. I hope it is ok. Rules are a bit confusing :) APAAcademy (talk) 08:58, 30 January 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Northern Illinois University page edits rollback

[edit]

Hi ProClasher97 - I recently updated the overview for the NIU page and I see that you rolled it back. I am new to this, so can you please explain why? Really trying to find my way around here.

JustJoking47 (talk) 15:46, 2 February 2023 (UTC)[reply]

@JustJoking47: There were two main reasons I reverted your edit. One of which was that the wording in the statements that were being added sounded more like an advertisement that was meant to promote the university, rather than add information about the university. The second reason was that there were no reliable sources added to support the information being added to the article. If you would like to add this information to the article, you may want to take a look at the article about reliable sources (that I added earlier in this message), as well as this one which can help you add statements that sound less like an advertisement for the university. If you have any other questions, I’d be happy to help, and you can also check out the Teahouse as well. ProClasher97 ~ Have A Question? 21:34, 2 February 2023 (UTC)[reply]

New Pages Patrol newsletter June 2023

[edit]

Hello ProClasher97,

New Page Review queue April to June 2023

Backlog

Redirect drive: In response to an unusually high redirect backlog, we held a redirect backlog drive in May. The drive completed with 23851 reviews done in total, bringing the redirect backlog to 0 (momentarily). Congratulations to Hey man im josh who led with a staggering 4316 points, followed by Meena and Greyzxq with 2868 and 2546 points respectively. See this page for more details. The redirect queue is steadily rising again and is steadily approaching 4,000. Please continue to help out, even if it's only for a few or even one review a day.

Redirect autopatrol: All administrators without autopatrol have now been added to the redirect autopatrol list. If you see any users who consistently create significant amounts of good quality redirects, consider requesting redirect autopatrol for them here.

WMF work on PageTriage: The WMF Moderator Tools team, consisting of Sam, Jason and Susana, and also some patches from Jon, has been hard at work updating PageTriage. They are focusing their efforts on modernising the extension's code rather than on bug fixes or new features, though some user-facing work will be prioritised. This will help make sure that this extension is not deprecated, and is easier to work on in the future. In the next month or so, we will have an opt-in beta test where new page patrollers can help test the rewrite of Special:NewPagesFeed, to help find bugs. We will post more details at WT:NPPR when we are ready for beta testers.

Articles for Creation (AFC): All new page reviewers are now automatically approved for Articles for Creation draft reviewing (you do not need to apply at WT:AFCP like was required previously). To install the AFC helper script, visit Special:Preferences, visit the Gadgets tab, tick "Yet Another AFC Helper Script", then click "Save". To find drafts to review, visit Special:NewPagesFeed, and at the top left, tick "Articles for Creation". To review a draft, visit a submitted draft, click on the "More" menu, then click "Review (AFCH)". You can also comment on and submit drafts that are unsubmitted using the script.

You can review the AFC workflow at WP:AFCR. It is up to you if you also want to mark your AFC accepts as NPP reviewed (this is allowed but optional, depends if you would like a second set of eyes on your accept). Don't forget that draftspace is optional, so moves of drafts to mainspace (even if they are not ready) should not be reverted, except possibly if there is conflict of interest.

Pro tip: Did you know that visual artists such as painters have their own SNG? The most common part of this "creative professionals" criteria that applies to artists is WP:ARTIST 4b (solo exhibition, not group exhibition, at a major museum) or 4d (being represented within the permanent collections of two museums).

New pages patrol newsletter

[edit]

Hello ProClasher97,

New Page Review article queue, March to September 2023

Backlog update: At the time of this message, there are 11,300 articles and 15,600 redirects awaiting review. This is the highest backlog in a long time. Please help out by doing additional reviews!

October backlog elimination drive: A one-month backlog drive for October will start in one week! Barnstars will be awarded based on the number of articles and redirects patrolled. Articles will earn 4x as many points compared to redirects. You can sign up here.

PageTriage code upgrades: Upgrades to the PageTriage code, initiated by the NPP open letter in 2022 and actioned by the WMF Moderator Tools Team in 2023, are ongoing. More information can be found here. As part of this work, the Special:NewPagesFeed now has a new version in beta! The update leaves the NewPagesFeed appearance and function mostly identical to the old one, but updates the underlying code, making it easier to maintain and helping make sure the extension is not decommissioned due to maintenance issues in the future. You can try out the new Special:NewPagesFeed here - it will replace the current version soon.

Notability tip: Professors can meet WP:PROF #1 by having their academic papers be widely cited by their peers. When reviewing professor articles, it is a good idea to find their Google Scholar or Scopus profile and take a look at their h-index and number of citations. As a very rough rule of thumb, for most fields, articles on people with a h-index of twenty or more, a first-authored paper with more than a thousand citations, or multiple papers each with more than a hundred citations are likely to be kept at AfD.

Reviewing tip: If you would like like a second opinion on your reviews or simply want another new page reviewer by your side when patrolling, we recommend pair reviewing! This is where two reviewers use Discord voice chat and screen sharing to communicate with each other while reviewing the same article simultaneously. This is a great way to learn and transfer knowledge.

November Articles for creation backlog drive

[edit]

Hello ProClasher97:

WikiProject Articles for creation is holding a month long Backlog Drive!
The goal of this drive is to reduce the backlog of unreviewed drafts to less than 2 months outstanding reviews from the current 4+ months. Bonus points will be given for reviewing drafts that have been waiting more than 30 days. The drive is running from 1 November 2023 through 30 November 2023.

You may find Category:AfC pending submissions by age or other categories and sorting helpful.

Barnstars will be given out as awards at the end of the drive.

There is a backlog of over 1000 pages, so start reviewing drafts. We're looking forward to your help! MediaWiki message delivery (talk) 13:24, 31 October 2023 (UTC)[reply]

New Pages Patrol newsletter April 2024

[edit]

Hello ProClasher97,

New Page Review queue January to March 2024

Backlog update: The October drive reduced the article backlog from 11,626 to 7,609 and the redirect backlog from 16,985 to 6,431! Congratulations to Schminnte, who led with over 2,300 points.

Following that, New Page Patrol organized another backlog drive for articles in January 2024. The January drive started with 13,650 articles and reduced the backlog to 7,430 articles. Congratulations to JTtheOG, who achieved first place with 1,340 points in this drive.

Looking at the graph, it seems like backlog drives are one of the only things keeping the backlog under control. Another backlog drive is being planned for May. Feel free to participate in the May backlog drive planning discussion.

It's worth noting that both queues are gradually increasing again and are nearing 14,034 articles and 22,540 redirects. We encourage you to keep contributing, even if it's just a single patrol per day. Your support is greatly appreciated!

2023 Awards

Onel5969 won the 2023 cup with 17,761 article reviews last year - that's an average of nearly 50/day. There was one Platinum Award (10,000+ reviews), 2 Gold Awards (5000+ reviews), 6 Silver (2000+), 8 Bronze (1000+), 30 Iron (360+) and 70 more for the 100+ barnstar. Hey man im josh led on redirect reviews by clearing 36,175 of them. For the full details, see the Awards page and the Hall of Fame. Congratulations everyone for their efforts in reviewing!

WMF work on PageTriage: The WMF Moderator Tools team and volunteer software developers deployed the rewritten NewPagesFeed in October, and then gave the NewPagesFeed a slight visual facelift in November. This concludes most major work to Special:NewPagesFeed, and most major work by the WMF Moderator Tools team, who wrapped up their major work on PageTriage in October. The WMF Moderator Tools team and volunteer software developers will continue small work on PageTriage as time permits.

Recruitment: A couple of the coordinators have been inviting editors to become reviewers, via mass-messages to their talk pages. If you know someone who you'd think would make a good reviewer, then a personal invitation to them would be great. Additionally, if there are Wikiprojects that you are active on, then you can add a post there asking participants to join NPP. Please be careful not to double invite folks that have already been invited.

Reviewing tip: Reviewers who prefer to patrol new pages within their most familiar subjects can use the regularly updated NPP Browser tool.

The Wikimedia Foundation is conducting a survey of Wikipedians to better understand what draws administrators to contribute to Wikipedia, and what affects administrator retention. We will use this research to improve experiences for Wikipedians, and address common problems and needs. We have identified you as a good candidate for this research, and would greatly appreciate your participation in this anonymous survey.

You do not have to be an Administrator to participate.

The survey should take around 10-15 minutes to complete. You may read more about the study on its Meta page and view its privacy statement .

Please find our contact on the project Meta page if you have any questions or concerns.

Kind Regards,

It's nice to get a notification from you if I made a mistake, on this page https://wiki.riteme.site/wiki/Chatbot.

Does the new link type apply if I just provide the link information regarding “List AI Bots for 2024”.
