Help me!

[edit]

Please help me with my content, i am always receiving a message that i am not mentioning the copyright when uploading file while i am ...maybe there is somothing wrong i am doing but in fact i don't know if i am working the correct way to create my page or not.if anyone can help me with writribg in details how the correct way to upload file, the way i am following is from Upload file: clock to start, then adding information, and in the information field: i am describing the description and for the copyright i am writing it here exemple: Yaccht club in ....(description) by .....(Copyright) so what is still missing here?

Princesse Marissa (talk) 08:35, 30 March 2020 (UTC)Princesse Marissa.[reply]

In Step 3 of the Wikipedia:File Upload Wizard there are a series of radio buttons that need to be selected regarding the copyright status of the image. I suspect you are missing a button or two, and that is why you are getting the notification. If you want more help, change the {{help me-helped}} back into a {{help me}}, stop by the Teahouse, or Wikipedia's live help channel, or the help desk to ask someone for assistance. Primefac (talk) 13:21, 30 March 2020 (UTC)[reply]
On an unrelated note, please do not put articles (or draft articles) on your user talk space. If you wish to draft something, either use the Article wizard to create a draft, or play around in your sandbox. Primefac (talk) 13:21, 30 March 2020 (UTC)[reply]
You have your draft in your Sandbox. The same information should not be on your User page. Delete all of that. The User page is for a description of your intentions as a Wikipedia editor. For example, you could have "I am interested in yacht clubs in Lebanon." David notMD (talk) 09:38, 31 March 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Before submitting this draft for consideration to Articles for Creation, learn how to properly create references. Also, the goal of Wikipedia articles is to provide enough information for readers to understand the topic, not every mention in every magazine. For examples of articles about yacht clubs, go to List of yacht clubs and click on the blue names. David notMD (talk) 10:40, 31 March 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Dear David David notMD (talk), i was advised to create 2 drafts each for a yacht club as follows: https://wiki.riteme.site/wiki/Draft:Beirut_Yacht_Club https://wiki.riteme.site/wiki/Draft:Lebanese_Yacht_Club when you have sometimes, can you please send me your comments or advise me what to do next? awaiting your prompt assitance. Sandboxes

[edit]

Hi Pricesse Marissa,

I see that you are now working on two draft articles, both in User:Princesse Marissa/sandbox. You might find it easier to use a second sandbox for the second draft. You can do that by creating a link to the (currently non-existent) second draft, and then clicking on the link and typing something there. Here's an example: User:Princesse Marissa/Lebanese Yacht Club.   Maproom (talk) 07:23, 1 April 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Hellp Maproom, thank you for replying to me, i am very new on this, i wanted these two articles as one with title "Yacht Clubs in Lebanon" is it correct to do so? what is your advise? waiting for your kind reply and stay safe. Princesse Marissa

Hello Marissa,
Yes, that would be possible. But it's less likely it would be accepted as an article. I would recommend working on an article on just one yacht club, until it gets accepted. Then work on an article on another yacht club. After that, you could create a "category" named "Yacht clubs in Lebanon".
If you choose, you can move your current sandbox to draft space, where I (and others) would be able to help with the formatting, referencing, etc.
Best wishes, Maproom (talk) 12:28, 1 April 2020 (UTC)[reply]
Thank you so much for your reply dear Maproom Maproom (talk):),
i will act the same, but how can i create 2 drafts one for Beirut Yacht Club and one for Lebanese Yacht club on my sandbox?

i mean what are the steps as once im log in from my account i have only one sandbox to write? or maybe i should go to article wizard and create 2 drafts, that is? waiting for your reply to start acting. Keep Safe. Princesse Marissa (talk) 13:26, 1 April 2020 (UTC)Princesse Marissa.[reply]

Dear Maproom,
i have created the 2 drafts for the 2 yacht Clubs:

https://wiki.riteme.site/wiki/Draft:Princesse_Marissa/Beirut_Yacht_Club https://wiki.riteme.site/wiki/Draft:Princesse_Marissa/Lebanese_Yacht_Club now how can i show them for you and others for your recommendations? Princesse Marissa (talk) 13:26, 1 April 2020 (UTC)Princesse Marissa[reply]

Dear Marissa,
I've created a draft, in draft space so that I and others can edit it, at Draft:Beirut Yacht Club.
I've done some minor editing. And more important, I've changed a reference, no. 3, into an approved format giving the bibliographical details. The way you had done it involved uploading a photograph of a newspaper page. This is not an approved method, in fact it is unacceptable on Wikipedia because it is in breach of the newspaper's copyright. (You won't be in any trouble for this, but it's likely that the image will get deleted.)
I will continue to work on the draft, and will create a second draft for the other yacht club. I suggest that you get rid of the two you have created, as their names are rather confusing. You can do that by putting
{{db-author}}
at the top of each.
Best wishes, Maproom (talk) 13:43, 1 April 2020 (UTC)[reply]
I've now created Draft:Lebanese Yacht Club. I'll not have time to do much more today, but I'll have a look at these two drafts most days, and do a bit to help. Maproom (talk) 13:50, 1 April 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Thank you very much dear Maproom Maproom (talk), kindly let me know what to next and how can i log from my account to go directly to these two drafts and waht is the next step is should be doing now as i am a beginner on this. Have a great day and will be waiting your updates. KIndest Regards, Princesse Marissa (talk) 14:01, 1 April 2020 (UTC)Princesse Marissa[reply]

Good morning dear Maproom (talk) Hope your day is goods so far i did some minor changes for both drafts (segregate the links what is related to Beirut Yacht Club and What is related to Lebanese Yacht club. let me know when you have times what else should be done. Wishing you a peaceful healthy day ahead. Princesse Marissa (talk) 07:18, 2 April 2020 (UTC)Princesse Marissa.[reply]

File permission problem with File:Lebanese Yacht Club Logo.jpg

[edit]

Thanks for uploading File:Lebanese Yacht Club Logo.jpg. I noticed that while you provided a valid copyright licensing tag, there is no proof that the creator of the file has agreed to release it under the given license.

If you are the copyright holder for this media entirely yourself but have previously published it elsewhere (especially online), please either

  • make a note permitting reuse under the CC-BY-SA or another acceptable free license (see this list) at the site of the original publication; or
  • Send an email from an address associated with the original publication to permissions-en@wikimedia.org, stating your ownership of the material and your intention to publish it under a free license. You can find a sample permission letter here. If you take this step, add {{OTRS pending}} to the file description page to prevent premature deletion.

If you did not create it entirely yourself, please ask the person who created the file to take one of the two steps listed above, or if the owner of the file has already given their permission to you via email, please forward that email to permissions-en@wikimedia.org.

If you believe the media meets the criteria at Wikipedia:Non-free content, use a tag such as {{non-free fair use}} or one of the other tags listed at Wikipedia:File copyright tags#Fair use, and add a rationale justifying the file's use on the article or articles where it is included. See Wikipedia:File copyright tags for the full list of copyright tags that you can use.

If you have uploaded other files, consider checking that you have provided evidence that their copyright owners have agreed to license their works under the tags you supplied, too. You can find a list of files you have created in your upload log. Files lacking evidence of permission may be deleted one week after they have been tagged, as described in section F11 of the criteria for speedy deletion. You may wish to read Wikipedia's image use policy. If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you. Majavah (t/c) 09:23, 13 April 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Dear Majavah (t/c) kindly note that the logo i am using is for the article i am writing (this is the logo of the club) i extract it from web: http://lebaneseyachtclub.org/page.php?id=1

and it meets the criteria (the file's use on the article or articles where it is included), the problem is i don't know how to fix it so that i shows that it is properly inserted where it should be, can you please help

Wikitia

[edit]

Wikitia is just one of the sites that 'mirror' articles from Wikipedia, although it goes one step further than many by copying not just articles, but drafts. It's use of your draft will not affect consideration of your draft. There is a slim possibility that a Wikipdia draft reviewer will ask whether you copied content from this other site. Just be prepared to answer that it was the other way. David notMD (talk) 16:32, 6 May 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Dear David notMD (talk), thank you for the info which is well noted, i will make sure to inform Wikipedia reviewer that Wikitia have copied the content. in fact they have copied it the draft edited dated April 23rd.Regards,Princesse Marissa (talk) 16:40, 6 May 2020 (UTC)Princesse Marissa[reply]

No need to anticipate the reviewer. Just be prepared to answer if the question comes up. Most reviewers do not bother to run a copyright violation check unless a new article - especially from a new editor- has the writing style and content of a professionally written article. For your two drafts, not a problem. David notMD (talk) 23:00, 6 May 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Well noted the info with thanks . Have a wonderful day Princesse Marissa (talk) 04:29, 7 May 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Some advice regarding your issues with the files you uploaded

[edit]

Hello, I noticed you were having some issues with file copyrights and were asking for help on the Wikipedia:Teahouse. I had some suggestions for how to handle the situation, but I'm not sure I'm allowed to reply there because I'm not a Teahouse host, so I'm leaving you a message here.

I'm going to suggest a plan for addressing the files that have been listed for deletion in your Teahouse post. I'm going to break this into three sections since we have a few different things going on, and they require different actions/advice.

Wikimedia Commons: None of those images will fly for the Wikimiedia Commons, they're going to get deleted from there. Those images are clearly covered by some form of copyright; and if an file is under copyright or 'non-free' then you can't upload it to the Commons. My advice would be to copy/save the 'information' templates for the logo files ('Lyc-burgee', 'Lebanese Yacht Club Burgee', and 'Byc burgee') somewhere for you to use later when you're ready to reupload the files to the English Wikipedia, for example into your draft space, or into your User Page. I store file templates I use in mine and hide them with the <!-- --> until I need them for a file. Also make sure you have copies of the files saved to your computer. (For detailed information on the policies and what is allowed vs not allowed at the Commons, please see this Commons:Licensing.)

The Yacht club logos: So I see you're preparing some drafts for the English Wikipedia. Articles under development in Userdraft space are not permitted to have a 'fair-use' images. Also all 'fair-use' images must be in use on an article, or they will be deleted eventually. So, prepare your article normally and get it ready for review by an administrator, but don't upload or place logos into the article. After the draft has been approved by an administrator and moved out of the 'Draft:' space, you can upload the files and add them to your article under 'fair-use'. When you're uploading the files to the English Wikipedia, select 'This is a copyrighted, non-free work, but I believe it is Fair Use.' and fill out the form from there, and select 'This is a logo of an organization, company, brand, etc.'. Complete the form. If you aren't sure how to answer a box, look at this file, of a bank logo which shows answers to those questions. If you want to upload other non-free files, the process is similar, just select the appropriate option from the 'Non-free use rationale' options.

If you want more information on Wikipedia's policies themselves: Wikipedia:Non-free content and Wikipedia:Logos are good starting points.

The Newspaper scans: The newspaper scans likely can't be justified under fair-use, even in an article about the topic, I would not attempt to reupload them to English Wikipedia under fair-use. However you can cite them as references when writing your article, and quote from them where appropriate.

This is my advice from some time editing here and on the Commons, and having dealt with draft articles and logos. If you have questions for me you can reply here using "{{re|The Navigators}}" at the start of your reply. I wish you the best of luck with your drafts.--The Navigators (talk) 20:51, 25 May 2020 (UTC)[reply]

"{{re|The Navigators}}" :@The Navigators:First of all thank you so much for taking time to reply, for the burgee: i stored the info as you advise on my PC, and hide them on the draft processed , kindly advise if this is the correct way? as for the newspaper, i didn't know how to proceed, can you please give me an example to act the same? thank you very much again...
