@Premeditated Chaos. Thanks for jotting this down. A good design document is a great first step to getting a dev (not necessarily me) to work on this. If you could flesh a few more things out, it'd be helpful:

  • Provide some example diffs
  • What page would you like this script's user interface to display on? For example, for GAN, it displays on a page such as Talk:Red team/GA1.
  • How does one determine who the "user" to be notified is? Is it always the author of the corresponding article? Is it the creator of a /GA1 style subpage? Is the username provided in a template? Does the username need to be collected by typing it into the user interface?
  • Can we get a wikilink to the "Records" page?
  • Can we get a wikilink to the "main 4A page"?
  • Which template should receive the |four=yes parameter? {{Article history}}?
  • Can we get a wikilink to the 4A page mentioned in "remove the nomination from the 4A page"?

Feel free to edit this info into User:Premeditated Chaos/4A script idea instead of answering here. Thanks! –Novem Linguae (talk) 04:30, 11 December 2024 (UTC)[reply]

  • Made it less dogshit based on the doc you showed me, will go back for another round. ♠PMC(talk) 04:35, 11 December 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Also, do we want to allow anyone to use the script, or do we need to code an allow list with only you and some others on it? –Novem Linguae (talk) 04:47, 11 December 2024 (UTC)[reply]
I think anybody, it's such an obscure area I doubt it will cause any problems letting anybody pitch in. How's it looking now? ♠PMC(talk) 04:54, 11 December 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Looks great, thanks. Any chance all the dates can just be read from {{Article history}}? Are there any four award articles that are missing the {{Article history}} template or have that template insufficiently filled out?
Realistically I probably won't have time to work on this for awhile. It's a pretty big project so I'd need a big chunk of time. April might be my next chunk of big time. (Feel free to set a calendar reminder and ping me on April 1.)
However, now that you have a good design doc, you could try posting a link to it at WP:US/R. I think I ended up making GANReviewTool after Lee Vilenski posted at that board. –Novem Linguae (talk) 05:51, 11 December 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Actually, yeah, DYK, GA, and FA dates can all be read from article history. It's just creation date that's the outlier. Not sure if there's a way to account for that - maybe take the first date that isn't a redirect? (All the recent FAs that I checked have this template, so I think at some point a bot must add it, or else everyone's very correct and zealous).
Thank you for walking me through this, even if you don't wind up making the script, I appreciate your time for this part too. I'll post at US/R just to see. Cheers! ♠PMC(talk) 06:11, 11 December 2024 (UTC)[reply]
