Do not vandalize Wikipedia

It was probably done 2 yrs back, not by me obviously but by someone else. Why are you bringing past matters to the table now? I dont understand what is your issue? If its a recent event, I can but not for something 2 years back.--Pratul (talk) 08:49, 2 March 2011 (UTC)[reply]

You are held responsible for edits made under your name, how could it be any other way? You should read WP:BRO if this isn't obvious. There is now a pending admin action (see notice below) due to the cumulative warnings and your response. — Brianhe (talk) 16:28, 3 March 2011 (UTC)[reply]
While people are responsible for all of their edits, you can't warn someone for vandalism if that event occurred 2 years ago. Vandalism warnings are given to tell the person what they may or may not do on Wikipedia, not just to make a record of old infractions. Qwyrxian (talk) 03:09, 4 March 2011 (UTC)[reply]
Wikipedia:Vandalism#Warnings doesn't say anything about time limits. One purpose of these warnings is to document past incidents, so appropriate escalations can be made. ANI is one such escalation by bringing attention in a very factual way to a documented pattern of behavior. Repeated inclusion of copyrighted material is damaging to Wikipedia. So is violating WP:BLP policy. As for documenting CoI, this was done in good faith, it seemed pertinent to note that a virtually single-purpose Wikipedia user name and the publicly advertised name of one of the executives of the subject article are one and the same. Seems to me there's more than a bit of self-outing in this case. If he doesn't want to be connected with the article, he should choose a different user name and/or edit other stuff. — Brianhe (talk) 02:55, 6 March 2011 (UTC)[reply]
One more thing for Qwyrxian. You asked why I brought up WP:BRO. The summary sentence in the essay is "Don't try to lay the blame on someone else." With regards to repeated inclusion of copyright material, I was following the format used on other articles assuming they were following the rules laid down by wikipedia. When I relaised they were not, I prompted Brianhe to edit the same so that all articles respect the rules. Even after including material, Brianhe was notified whether the article SMERA follows the rules. Brianhe can check his talk page to verify if I have been in contact with regards to the same or not. Please illustrate one instant when I have carried out repeated inclusions of copyright material after having being notified of the rules and regulations on wikipedia. As far as CoI goes, I am not the only one contributing to the article, you can check for yourself in the articles history page. Apparently, Brianhe thinks wikipedia is his personal domain and he can do as he wishes because he is aware of the intricacies of creating an article. Rather than letting in new users to contribute to wikipedia, he seems determined to prevent genuine contributors from developing new articles. Pratul (talk) 12:16, 6 March 2011 (UTC)[reply]

  • Ok, let's get a few things straight here. While it is certainly a bit odd to warn a user for such an old action this: [1] is in fact a disgusting act of racist vandalism that came from this account. The rule of thumb here is one person=one account, one account=one person. Normally if you claim someone else edited using your account you would be permanently blocked for failing to maintain control of your account, so you might want to reconsider that as a defense for this despicable edit. Doesn't appear to cross the notability threshold for companies. It is not even a company – SMERA is a project of a bank and a business rating agency. Cursory Google search does not bring up much in terms of reliable, independent third-party mentions of SMERA. The listed website does not instil confidence that the subject is so notable as it merits an encyclopaedia article.

While all constructive contributions to Wikipedia are appreciated, pages may be deleted for any of several reasons.
