Tips
  • Don't be afraid to edit! Just find something that can be improved and make it better. Other editors will help fix any mistakes you make.
  • It's normal to feel a little overwhelmed, but don't worry if you don't understand everything at first—it's fine to edit using common sense.
  • If an edit you make is reverted, you can discuss the issue at the article's talk page. Be civil, and don't restore the edit unless there is consensus.
  • Always use edit summaries to explain your changes.
  • When adding new content to an article, always include a citation to a reliable source.
  • If you wish to edit about a subject with which you are affiliated, read our conflict of interest guide and disclose your connection.
  • Have fun! Your presence in the Wikipedia community is welcome.

Happy editing! Cheers, Ktrimi991 (talk) 23:41, 10 May 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Information icon Hello, I'm Donald Albury. I noticed that you added or changed content in an article, Vasco da Gama, but you didn't provide a reliable source. It's been removed and archived in the page history for now, but if you'd like to include a citation and re-add it, please do so. You can have a look at referencing for beginners. If you think I made a mistake, you can leave me a message on my talk page. Thank you. Donald Albury 21:14, 15 May 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Information icon Thank you for your contributions to Wikipedia. In your recent edit to Jawaharlal Nehru, you added links to an article which did not add content or meaning, or repeated the same link several times throughout the article. Please see Wikipedia's guideline on links to avoid overlinking. Thank you. ‑‑Neveselbert (talk · contribs · email) 19:36, 3 June 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Using other Wikipedia articles as "source" for corrections...

[edit]

Hello, just to let you know about this; be so kind as to read and use the sources used for the article, and not other articles here. Wikipedia isn't always right :). Lectonar (talk) 14:30, 6 May 2024 (UTC)[reply]

[edit]

Hi. Thank you for your recent edits. An automated process has detected that when you recently edited List of Maratha rulers, you added a link pointing to the disambiguation page Shahu. Such links are usually incorrect, since a disambiguation page is merely a list of unrelated topics with similar titles. (Read the FAQ • Join us at the DPL WikiProject.)

New World Encyclopedia

[edit]

The New World Encyclopedia is Wikipedia edited by a church to conform to their values. It is in no way, shape, or form a reliable source, and should never be cited in Wikipedia. See prior discussion of it at Wikipedia:Reliable sources/Noticeboard/Archive 84. --Worldbruce (talk) 20:37, 29 June 2024 (UTC)[reply]

thanks for letting me know Prakashs27 (talk) 22:50, 3 October 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Always use reliable sources

[edit]

Information icon We appreciate your contributions, but in one of your recent edit to Sher Shah Suri, it appears that you have added original research, which is against Wikipedia's policies. Original research refers to material—such as facts, allegations, ideas, and personal beliefs—for which no reliable, published sources exist; it also encompasses combining published sources in a way to imply something that none of them explicitly say.

You stated in the edit summary of this edit, "Sultan Jalal-ud-din Lohani was killed at the Battle of Ghaghra on 6 May 1529, meaning Sher Shah would have been ruler then since he succeeded him". This is contradicted by the reliable sources cited in the body of the article. Mehta wrote:

Muhammad Shah expired in October 1528 and the Queen Dowager, Dudu Bibi, became the regent of the state on behalf of her minor son Jalal Khan. She appointed Sher Khan as her Vakil or deputy governor and placed the entire administration of the state in his hands ... Mahmud Lodhi, the contender to the throne of Delhi, was yet in the field, and Sher Shah had to associate himself with him in the battle of Ghaghra on May 6, 1529. Sher Khan's participation in the battle was only half-hearted. Immediately after the defeat and flight of Mahmud Lodhi, Jalal Khan and Sher Khan submitted to Babar ... In the beginning of 1530. Dudu Bibi also breathed her last and Sher Khan became the de facto ruler of south Bihar as the regent of the minor sultan.

In other words, Sher Shah Suri was deputy governor under the regent until 1530, when he succeeded the regent. At that point Jalal Khan was still very much alive, having been defeated but not killed at the Battle of Ghaghra. Please be prepared to cite a reliable source for all of your contributions. You can have a look at the tutorial on citing sources if you have any questions about how to do so. --Worldbruce (talk) 01:34, 3 July 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Introduction to contentious topics

[edit]

You have recently edited a page related to India, Pakistan, and Afghanistan, a topic designated as contentious. This is a brief introduction to contentious topics and does not imply that there are any issues with your editing.

A special set of rules applies to certain topic areas, which are referred to as contentious topics. These are specially designated topics that tend to attract more persistent disruptive editing than the rest of the project and have been designated as contentious topics by the Arbitration Committee. When editing a contentious topic, Wikipedia’s norms and policies are more strictly enforced, and Wikipedia administrators have special powers in order to reduce disruption to the project.

Within contentious topics, editors should edit carefully and constructively, refrain from disrupting the encyclopedia, and:

  • adhere to the purposes of Wikipedia;
  • comply with all applicable policies and guidelines;
  • follow editorial and behavioural best practice;
  • comply with any page restrictions in force within the area of conflict; and
  • refrain from gaming the system.

Editors are advised to err on the side of caution if unsure whether making a particular edit is consistent with these expectations. If you have any questions about contentious topics procedures you may ask them at the arbitration clerks' noticeboard or you may learn more about this contentious topic here. You may also choose to note which contentious topics you know about by using the {{Ctopics/aware}} template.

Using reliable sources

[edit]

Hello. You're adding very specific dates in multiple articles without providing sources (or without providing reliable sources). Please be aware that verifiability is a core policy on Wikipedia and you MUST provide reliable sources when adding specific information such as historical dates. --RegentsPark (comment) 19:38, 22 July 2024 (UTC)[reply]
