Intentona de Yauco
My dear friends, you all have heard of El Grito de Lares, but have you ever heard of the Intentona de Yauco? Enjoy. Tony the Marine (talk) 05:43, 31 July 2009 (UTC)
- Thank you for the corrections. You stated: "By the way, has any link been established between Mattei's role in attracting the American invasion and the selection of Guánica Bay, a part of Mattei's Yauco at the time, for General Miles' disembarkment? That would be an interesting point for you to research.'
Great observation, but highly unlikely for the following reason:
Mattei and the Puerto Rican Commission in New York were providing intelligence information to President McKinley's people and he favored an invasion via San Juan.
When General Miles aboard the USS Yale and his convoy departed from Havana, he was ordered by McKinley to invade Puerto Rico via San Juan, however Miles decided to invade Puerto Rico via Guanica while passing the Mona Strait and went against McKinley wishes, risking a court martial had he failed. Mattei was aboard the USS St. Louis which departed from New York and finally caught up to Miles Convoy after Miles had began the invasion. Mattei and his men arrived in Puerto Rico and were assigned to Miles headquarters in Ponce well after the Battle of Yauco. I think that it would have been highly unlikely that Miles and Mattei would maintained some type of communication while before that. Tony the Marine (talk) 22:11, 31 July 2009 (UTC)
