Possum, eh?
Omai, iz dat a new name u got dere? It's funny that of all the years I've known you, I've never called you "Possum", yet apparently many people in RL do. — Kendra Michele — 00:47, 1 October 2008 (UTC)
- Oh yes, Possum is my nickname :) Possum (talk) 00:48, 1 October 2008 (UTC)
- Goodness, you're up late, yo. I bet it's because you can't sleep because you're so excited for your fan meet up of JMF. — Kendra Michele — 00:55, 1 October 2008 (UTC)
This is going to be difficult to get used to. All these renames are messing with my mind. First Jennavecia, then Coffee, then Caulde, now you. What's next?
(User rename log); 23:10 . . Rdsmith4 (Talk | contribs | block) has renamed User:Jimbo Wales to "Grawp" (3,925 edits. Reason: WP:USURP)
:D J.delanoygabsadds 01:01, 1 October 2008 (UTC)
- Haha except my usurp didn't really go to plan and I still have a lot of work to do do rearrange everything. Still so many redlinks! :S Possum (talk) 01:03, 1 October 2008 (UTC)
- Oh and the day Jimbo is renamed to Grawp will be epic. In fact, I reckon Jimbo really is Grawp in disguise!! Possum (talk) 01:05, 1 October 2008 (UTC)
- Heh. Now that would be hilarious. Except that I, who know literally nothing about PHP, could come up with many more creative ways to vandalize than the technique Grawp uses, so I would assume that Jimbo would be much more clever and insidious if he ever decided to create a vandalism account.
- And in all seriousness, I have no question that Jimbo has another account here on Wikipedia that he edits under normally. I mean, can you imagine him using, say, Twinkle or Huggle and making a mistake? Or imagine him trying to enter into a discussion anywhere. There's no way that he can really express his opinion in a hard-fast way in such things as content dispute because people (somewhat rightly, I suppose) take his word as law. So in order to actually enter into meaningful contact, he would have no choice but to edit under a pseudonym. Given that fact, now all we have to do is figure out who his sockpuppet is... >_> And I actually do have one person who seems to fit the bill in my mind. J.delanoygabsadds 01:15, 1 October 2008 (UTC)

Hello, regarding this revert, users who haven't created articles about themselves may request deletion by blanking the page (see WP:CSD#G7). I normally wouldn't take a page-blank revert upon a user on an article created by themself as "unconstructive", and to me, that almost sounded like biting (although it might not). Thanks. SchfiftyThree 22:48, 3 October 2008 (UTC)
- That's bizarre, usually when you revert a user who blanks a page and is also the original creator, you're prompted beforehand. Gah, Huggle really is broken at the moment O_O ——Possum (talk) 22:53, 3 October 2008 (UTC)

Civility Award | ||
For staying remarkably calm and presenting a civil, reasoning tone to a disruptive user, all while attempting to defuse a legal threat, I hereby award Possum the Civility Award. Through your cool headed actions, you have provided myself (and perhaps some other editors as well) with a firm idea of how to civilly deal with such risky and potentially hostile situations. Well done. SMC (talk) 00:21, 4 October 2008 (UTC) |

Pitchfork Deletions
Deleting unnecessary information from an article hardly qualifies as vandalism.
I assume you are a Pitchfork snob who feels like the exhaustive list of albums that have earned a rating of every decimal place under the sun adds something to the article, and you're free to feel that way, but crying "vandalism" any time someone edits out extraneous information is abusing wikipedia. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 158.81.13.145 (talk • contribs) 18:24, 6 October 2008 (UTC)
- This is the edition that I reverted. I saw an anonymous user reverting an established editor and in doing so removing 15332 bytes of data. I left a message on the user's talk page.
Chergles (talk) 20:06, 13 October 2008 (UTC)
- It appeared on Special:RecentChanges. Don't forget to explain on the article's discussion page your reasoning, regards — Possum (talk) 20:17, 13 October 2008 (UTC)
Oh, you misunderstood. I didn't remove the tag. The article looks very goofy so I tried to fix it and discuss it with the original author. I'll let that person work on it for a while but I suspect it is ripe for deletion unless there is some significant improvement and progress in making notability clear to the ordinary reader. Code Enforcement Department
Hello Possum: I am interested in creating a department on Wikipedia titled "Code Enforcement Bureau (CEB)". it will be a department of established users who specialize in handing out citations, i.e. they will be recent changes patrollers. Although they may not be liked, the goal of the CEB is to alert users that what they did/edited was wrong, so tto save the user much emotional pain when it is deleted. What is your opinion?--Archeopteryx (talk) 19:27, 18 October 2008 (UTC)
- Hmmm, I'm not entirely sure what you mean, but we already have WP:CVU where established users patrol recent changes and report vandals to AIV. Please elaborate some more :) — Possum (talk) 22:46, 18 October 2008 (UTC)
You're frustrating me!
There I was, peacefully reverting vandalism without anyone to bother me, until you came along and started beating me to it. Great work! Have a cookie :D

The recent edit you made to User:Possum/Sandbox has been reverted, as it introduced unsourced or poorly sourced negative or controversial biographical material. Please do not continue to add such information. Thank you. — Possum (talk) 19:28, 20 October 2008 (UTC)

- I saw that (and LOL'ed at it too, actually). As far as self-warnings go, Huggle was nice - it wouldn't let you warn or block yourself, and it refused to warn or block people who were whitelisted. It's annoying to block people now; since Huggle's block feature no longer works, you have to view the diff in your browser and then block using the MediaWiki Special:BlockIP. Very often I click on the wrong block link. It is only a matter of time before I indefblock myself as a

Adoption
Hi Ryan, I regret to inform you that I have to terminate my adoption with you. Although I'm more than certain that your help and guidance of Wikipedia would have benefited me, I'm far too busy with university and extracurricular activities to start a new program such as yours. I will turn to you later, however, if time serves me good. Thanks for your support. — Kendra Michele — 20:20, 20 October 2008 (UTC)
Account Creator
Thanks for the message. I am reading the documentation for the third time, making sure I don't miss anything. I just have one question: Does the Account Requests page update automatically? Or do I need to refresh in order to see new requests? Thanks for your help. :) \ / (⁂) 08:28, 19 October 2008 (UTC)
- You'll need to refresh to see new requests. Sometimes there are dozens waiting to be created when you sign on. Other times, it's empty. — Possum (talk) 08:31, 19 October 2008 (UTC)
- I have come across a 6 user creations per 24hr limit. Is there anything I can do to get around that? Or will I just wait for tomorrow? Thanks :) \ / (⁂) 06:07, 22 October 2008 (UTC)
- You can either wait for tomorrow, or request for the accountcreation flag at WP:PERM — Possum (talk) 06:11, 22 October 2008 (UTC)

Permissions Answers
Hello, here are my answers for the Permissions portion of the adoption program:
1. Permissions are the rights and tools granted to the various ranking members of Wikipedia. 2. Unregistered users may only edit pages that are not under any form of protection. 3. "Autoconfirmed" accounts are those that are registered, having been in existence for at least four days, and belonging to a user who has made a minimum amount of edits. 4. Registered users can create and move pages, as well as uploading files and editing pages that are not under full protection. 5. Both admins and non-admins can grant rollback rights. 6. Rollback rights allow a user to delete multiple edits made by the same user, reverting the page back to the most recent revision by a user other than the one whose edits are being deleted. It is used to fight vandalism and to delete unconstructive edits. 7. Administrators grant rollback rights at WP:PERM. 8. The exemption could be taken advantage of by vandals, enabling them to vandalize from any addresses available to them. The exempted party should be monitored. 9. Rollback rights should not be used to target a user only because of previous offenses, when the edits in question are not necesarrily unconstructive. 10. Administrators' rights include the ability to edit any protected page, and to alter the Mediawiki interface. They can also protect or un-protect pages themselves, and block users for definite and indefinite amounts of time. 11. Hopefuls must apply in the Requests for adminship process, where admin rights can be granted to them by a consensus methods, generally requring about 75% support in order to have the admin rights granted. 12. Bureaucrats can promote users to admin or bureucrat status, but cannot demote any users. They are chosen by a consensus similar to that of the adminship process, but a higher percentage of support is generally required to be promoted to this level. 13. Stewards have complete, unbridled access to users' permissions, enabling them to promote or demote a user to any rank. They are elected by the Wikipedia Board of Trustees. 14. Checkusers trace the I.P. addresses that from which Wikipedia has been accessed, in order to trace vandals using illegitimate sockpuppet accounts. These users must be held legally liable for these delicate operations, and users must present proof of identity to be granted these rights. 15. Oversight allows users to hide particular revisions from a page's history, usually due to a controversial nature of a reverted edit. 16.This tool is only granted to users who are acknowledged as having a special need for them, and the tools are usually only conferred by invitation, generally to current of former members of the Arbitration Commitee.ISmellDonuts (talk) 03:02, 22 October 2008 (UTC)

Bug in Accout Creator's password recovery page
Hi, Possum. I noticed that the password recovery system on Account Creator has a bug in it. When you try to recover your password, it sends you an e-mail with a link, just like it's supposed to. But when you follow the link, it just takes you back to the login screen, so it doesn't give you your password or give you a chance to reset it. Would you please pass this on to the people who deal with such issues? Thanks! ~SunDragon34 (talk) 08:35, 25 November 2008 (UTC)

The RfA Barnstar | ||
BranStark, I would like to thank you for your participation in my recent Request for Adminship, which passed with 112 supports, 4 opposes and 5 neutrals. A special mention goes out to Stwalkerster and Pedro for nominating me, thanks a lot for having trust in me! In response to the neutrals, I will try to double check articles that have been tagged for speedy deletion before I CSD them and will start off slowly with the drama boards of ANI and AN to ensure that I get used to them. In response to the oppose !votes on my RfA, I will check that any images I use meet the non-free content criteria and will attempt to handle any disputes or queries as well as I can. If you need my help at all, feel free to simply ask at my talk page and I'll see if I can help. Once again, thank you for your participation, and have a great day! :) The Helpful One 22:13, 25 November 2008 (UTC) |

Sunset Gallery
Why did you remove the sunset gallery? DirectorG (talk) 00:37, 5 December 2008 (UTC)
- I removed the gallery like I've done so many times in the past. It happens so often, people take nice photos of sunsets and then attempt to showcase their media on the project but you have to remember, this is an encyclopedia, Wikipedia is not a mirror or a repository of links, images, or media files. You have to ask yourself whether the images your adding really enhance the article in any way. The article is small and when there are too many images, it clutters it up. There is a commons link clearly visible there in the article, consider uploading your images there instead. — Possum (talk) 13:10, 5 December 2008 (UTC)

Dear BranStark
Your are the deceiver, Stop falsifying data if you truly fear God. If you truly believe that Judism is the true religion then there is no need for it. I have altered Judism because you have falsified data for Christianity and Islam. My response to you: It is foolish to listen to someone who will not listen to you. When you refrain from your ill actions, lies and propaganda then so will I. This is a taste of your own medicine, let's see how you will handle it. Btw how is Judism first, alphabetically Judism comes after Christainity and Islam. I will alter what I know to be false in order to protect the innocent reader from those with hidden agendas. See you soon, hope you hit the sandbox first,.
I am a Semite (Middle Eastern, arab). if you say I'm anti-Semite, then I will lodge a formal complaint.
