Control copyright icon Hello Portasa Cristian! Your additions to Getae have been removed in whole or in part, as they appear to have added copyrighted content without evidence that the source material is in the public domain or has been released by its owner or legal agent under a suitably free and compatible copyright license. (To request such a release, see Wikipedia:Requesting copyright permission.) While we appreciate your contributions to Wikipedia, there are certain things you must keep in mind about using information from sources to avoid copyright and plagiarism issues.

  • You can only copy/translate a small amount of a source. You must mark what you take as a direct quotation with double quotation marks (") and cite the source using an inline citation. Read about this at Wikipedia:Non-free content in the sections on "text". See also Help:Referencing for beginners, for how to cite sources here.
  • Aside from limited quotation, you must put all information in your own words and structure, in proper paraphrase. Following the source's words too closely can create copyright problems, so it is not permitted here; see Wikipedia:Close paraphrasing. Even when using your own words, you are still asked to cite your sources to verify the information and to demonstrate that the content is not original research.
  • We have strict guidelines on the usage of copyrighted images. Fair use images must meet all ten of the non-free content criteria to be used in articles, or they will be deleted. To be used on Wikipedia, all other images must be made available under a free and open copyright license that allows commercial and derivative reuse.
  • If you own the copyright to the source you want to copy or are a legally designated agent, you may be able to license that text so that we can publish it here. Understand, though, that unlike many other sites, where a person can license their content for use there and retain non-free ownership, that is not possible at Wikipedia. Rather, the release of content must be irrevocable, to the world, into either the public domain (PD) or under a suitably free and compatible copyright license. Please see Wikipedia:Donating copyrighted materials.
  • Also note that Wikipedia articles may not be copied or translated without attribution. If you want to copy or translate from another Wikipedia project or article, you must follow the copyright attribution steps described at Wikipedia:Copying within Wikipedia. See also Help:Translation#License requirements.

It's very important that contributors understand and follow these practices. Our policy requires that people who persistently do not must be blocked from editing. If you have any questions about this, please ask them here on this page, or leave a message on my talk page. Thank you. User3749 (talk) 15:03, 12 March 2024 (UTC)[reply]

@User3749
Hello, thank you for bringing this to my attention. I want to clarify that the map in question was created entirely by me, and it is my original work. I apologize if there was any confusion regarding its origin. I am more than willing to provide further evidence or clarification to demonstrate that the map does not infringe on any copyright. Please let me know how I can proceed to resolve this matter. Thank you. Portasa Cristian (talk) 15:11, 12 March 2024 (UTC)[reply]
I understand it is your own work, but even if it is your own work then unfortunately you can't use it here unless if you license it with a compatible license. Please see those links I provided above for details. Thanks and welcome. User3749 (talk) 15:15, 12 March 2024 (UTC)[reply]
@User3749 Thank you for your message. I appreciate your guidance. I will ensure that my work is freely available for others to use, with the intention of spreading knowledge and improving the map for readers. With that in mind, I will license my work under the CC0 license to ensure maximum freedom for its use. Please let me know if this will satisfy the requirements, and if I may proceed with uploading the map. Thank you. Portasa Cristian (talk) 23:15, 12 March 2024 (UTC)[reply]
@[[User:User3749|
I hope this message finds you well. I wanted to follow up on my previous message sent 13 hours ago regarding the licensing of my work for the map upload. I understand that you may be busy, but I wanted to kindly inquire if you had the chance to review my request.
I remain committed to making my work freely available for others to use and would greatly appreciate your feedback on whether the CC0 license I proposed satisfies the requirements for uploading the map.
Thank you for your time and consideration. Portasa Cristian (talk) 12:49, 13 March 2024 (UTC)[reply]
@User3749 Hello User3749, the map was fixed by an editor, and also other user helped me, saying it's ready to use Portasa Cristian (talk) 19:28, 13 March 2024 (UTC)[reply]
@User3749 I want to know if I can upload the map on the page again, here is the link of the map if you want. https://commons.m.wikimedia.org/wiki/File:The_map_of_Suevi.png Portasa Cristian (talk) 20:11, 13 March 2024 (UTC)[reply]

I understand that you might be busy, so I'll give you some time to respond. Portasa Cristian (talk) 22:32, 13 March 2024 (UTC)[reply]
With regards to the map in question, yes, CC0 should be sufficient but I would suggest uploading it on Commons instead. User3749 (talk) 13:20, 14 March 2024 (UTC)[reply]
@User3749 Thanks for the response Portasa Cristian (talk) 15:01, 14 March 2024 (UTC)[reply]

@Vghfr
Hello Vghfr,
I hope this message finds you well. I'm reaching out regarding a matter related to the licensing of my work for a map I upload on the platform. It was an map of Getae uploaded on Getae page. User3749 removed the map saying: "I understand it is your own work, but even if it is your own work then unfortunately you can't use it here unless if you license it with a compatible license"
Despite my efforts to contact User3749, I haven't received a response after 24 hours.
As you have experience on the platform, I was wondering if you could provide me with some guidance or assistance regarding the licensing process. Just to recap, I've chosen to license my work under the CC0 license to ensure maximum freedom for its use. I want to know if CC0 license will satisfy the requirements for uploading the map.
I remain committed to making my work freely available for others to use and would appreciate any help you can offer.
Thank you for your time and consideration. Portasa Cristian (talk) 18:13, 13 March 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Yes, licencing under CC0 should be sufficient. Be sure to upload your map to Commons as opposed to directly uploading to Wikipedia, since uploading directly is usually reserved for fair use content. When you upload, be sure to select the correct licencing. If you have any other questions, I am more than happy to help. vghfr (✉ Talk) (✏ Contribs) 18:19, 13 March 2024 (UTC)[reply]
@Vghfr Yes, I have a another question, I'm reaching out regarding an edit made to my map of Getae. Someone added structured data such as the source, author, copyright information, and date after the map was deleted.
I'm unsure about the implications of this edit and whether it allows me to "re-upload" it on the page or I should upload it again on Wikimedia. Portasa Cristian (talk) 18:52, 13 March 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Could you send me the page? If the page already exists, you should be able to upload a new one on the same page. vghfr (✉ Talk) (✏ Contribs) 18:56, 13 March 2024 (UTC)[reply]
@Vghfr
Link for the page: https://wiki.riteme.site/wiki/Getae?wprov=sfla1
Link for the Suevi and Getae map (if you need it): https://commons.m.wikimedia.org/wiki/File:The_map_of_Suevi.png
if you can't open the link just copy the link and paste it into the web browser. Portasa Cristian (talk) 19:14, 13 March 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Looks like someone fixed the licencing for you already, which means it's ready to be used. vghfr (✉ Talk) (✏ Contribs) 19:19, 13 March 2024 (UTC)[reply]
@Vghfr
