5/1/2009: I am told that Wikipedia is NOT the place for spamming keywords/names/businesses/manufacturers. The Sport of Nordic Walking has NO pioneers. EXEL coined the word Nordic Walking and the activiity took off successfully from there in Europe and it is hard to logically remove their name from the Wikipedia info on Nordic Walking. There where no "pioneers" and there will never be Olympic Gold Medalists in Nordic Walking no matter how awesome and effective Nordic Walking Is.
from 2008: There are no "Nordic Walking Pioneers"! There are some manufactures and instructors with some new ideas about walking with poles - this doesn't make them pioneers. Wikipedia is NOT an appropriate place to unnecessarily name drop.
Skiers have been ski walking and hill bounding with poles for decades. Smart hikers have been hiking with poles for decades too.
Enough of the marketing hype!
