Welcome!

[edit]

Hello, Pogo Stump, and welcome to Wikipedia! I hope you like the place and decide to stay. Unfortunately, one or more of the pages you created, such as Mr. Meltzer, may not conform to some of Wikipedia's guidelines, and may not be retained.

There's a page about creating articles you may want to read called Your first article. If you are stuck, and looking for help, please come to the Teahouse, where experienced Wikipedians can answer any queries you have! Or, you can just type {{help me}} on this page, followed by your question, and someone will show up shortly to answer your questions. Here are a few other good links for newcomers:

I hope you enjoy editing here and being a Wikipedian! Please sign your name on talk pages using four tildes (~~~~); this will automatically produce your name and the date. If this is the first article that you have created, you may want to read the guide to writing your first article.

You may want to consider using the Article Wizard to help you create articles.

A tag has been placed on Mr. Meltzer requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done under section A7 of the criteria for speedy deletion, because the article appears to be about a person or group of people, but it does not credibly indicate how or why the subject is important or significant: that is, why an article about that subject should be included in an encyclopedia. Under the criteria for speedy deletion, such articles may be deleted at any time. Please read more about what is generally accepted as notable.

If you think this page should not be deleted for this reason, you may contest the nomination by visiting the page and clicking the button labelled "Contest this speedy deletion". This will give you the opportunity to explain why you believe the page should not be deleted. However, be aware that once a page is tagged for speedy deletion, it may be removed without delay. Please do not remove the speedy deletion tag from the page yourself, but do not hesitate to add information in line with Wikipedia's policies and guidelines. If the page is deleted, and you wish to retrieve the deleted material for future reference or improvement, then please contact the deleting administrator. —teb728 t c 07:05, 26 January 2016 (UTC)[reply]

Request reason:

I live in China. I use a VPN so that I can use the internet freely. I need full access to the internet to do research to improve articles. Pogo Stump (talk) 07:59, 26 January 2016 (UTC)[reply]

Decline reason:

Since you've just copied your previous unblock request, let me copy too: Given the article you attempted to create, I'm not convinced you are here to build an encyclopedia. Users in China and other countries with Internet restriction are advised to check out this project: Wikipedia:WikiProject_on_closed_proxies Max Semenik (talk) 18:35, 26 January 2016 (UTC)[reply]

If you want to make any further unblock requests, please read the guide to appealing blocks first, then use the {{unblock}} template again. If you make too many unconvincing or disruptive unblock requests, you may be prevented from editing this page until your block has expired. Do not remove this unblock review while you are blocked.

Lesson learned

[edit]

I understand your denial of my unblock request. When my block expires I will not use a VPN while on wikipedia. It will inconvenience me, but for the sake of my account and the sake of the Wikipedia community, I will do it. I intend as well to be more serious about editing and creating articles.

If you are in Beijing... are you interested in taking pictures to use on Wikipedia? WhisperToMe (talk) 03:05, 13 February 2016 (UTC)[reply]

Generally it's company offices and/or international schools. I listed many of them by district at Commons:Picture_requests/Requests/Asia#Beijing.2F.E5.8C.97.E4.BA.AC. Most of them will be in Chaoyang and Shunyi districts.

A few things of note:

  • While I have the side view of the Air China headquarters in Beijing (see File:AirChinaBuildingShunyi1.JPG) it may be good to get the frontal/long view of the building? (you'll understand when you see it)
    • Address: No. 30, Tianzhu Road, Tianzhu Airport Industrial Zone, Beijing, China - 北京市顺义区天竺空港经济开发区天柱路30号 (Metro: China International Exhibition Center)

Schools:

  • For schools please photograph each main gate/building exterior with the school name). The purpose of course is that one sees the "face" of the school when he/she opens the article. I had taken equivalents of schools in Shanghai (for example Japanese School of Shanghai, American School of Shanghai, Lycee Francais de Shanghai, etc) so these articles may give an idea of what I'm interested in.
  • The school buildings that are most of interest to me are the "top three" English speaking schools in Beijing (British School Sanlitun, British School Shunyi, WSB, and ISB) and the French, German, Korean and Japanese schools - Dulwich and Harrow would be nice too! The idea is to encourage expats and Chinese alike to contribute to Wikipedia
  • If there are any security concerns regarding any of these campuses (it's possible the schools on Liangmaqiao/in Sanlitun may be around foreign embassies) it may be good to ask guards if you just take an image with the school's name or in some angle they prefer. If that doesn't work one could e-mail the school and ask them to supply a free image.

Once images are uploaded I recommend adding descriptions in both English and Chinese. If you have trouble with Chinese I can help out a little bit!
