Welcome!

[edit]

Hello, Jmwikieeditor, and welcome to Wikipedia! Thank you for your contributions.

I noticed that one of the first articles you edited was Jon Miller (television executive), which appears to be dealing with a topic with which you may have a conflict of interest. In other words, you may find it difficult to write about that topic in a neutral and objective way, because you are, work for, or represent, the subject of that article. Your recent contributions may have already been undone for this very reason.

To reduce the chances of your contributions being undone, you might like to draft your revised article before submission, and then ask me or another editor to proofread it. See our help page on userspace drafts for more details. If the page you created has already been deleted from Wikipedia, but you want to save the content from it to use for that draft, don't hesitate to ask anyone from this list and they will copy it to your user page.

One rule we do have in connection with conflicts of interest is that accounts used by more than one person will unfortunately be blocked from editing. Wikipedia generally does not allow editors to have usernames which imply that the account belongs to a company or corporation. If you have a username like this, you should request a change of username or create a new account. (A name that identifies the user as an individual within a given organization may be OK.)

In addition, if you receive, or expect to receive, compensation for any contribution you make, you must disclose your employer, client, and affiliation to comply with our terms of use and our policy on paid editing.

Here are some pages that you might find helpful:

I hope you enjoy editing here and being a Wikipedian! Please sign your messages on talk pages using four tildes (~~~~); this will automatically insert your username and the date. If you need help, visit the Teahouse, check out Wikipedia:Questions, ask me on my talk page, or ask your question on this page and then place {{Help me}} before the question. Again, welcome!

Welcome to Wikipedia. I saw that you edited or created Jon Miller (television executive), and I noticed that your username, "Jmwikieeditor", may not comply with our username policy. Please note that you may not use a username that represents the name of a company, group, organization, product, service, or website. Examples of usernames that are not allowed include "XYZ Company", "MyWidgetsUSA.com", and "Foobar Museum of Art". However, you are permitted to use a username that contains such a name if it identifies you individually (not your role), such as "Sara Smith at XYZ Company", "Mark at WidgetsUSA", or "FoobarFan87", but not "SEO Manager at XYZ Company".

Please also note that Wikipedia does not allow accounts to be shared by multiple people and that you may not advocate for or promote any company, group, organization, product, service, or website, regardless of your username. Please also read our paid editing policy and our conflict of interest guideline. If you are a single individual and are willing to contribute to Wikipedia in an unbiased manner, please request a change of username by completing the form at Special:GlobalRenameRequest, choosing a username that complies with our username policy. Alternatively, you can just create a new account and use that for editing. If you believe that your username does not violate our policy, please leave a note here explaining why. Thank you. :Jay8g [VTE] 20:02, 15 September 2024 (UTC)[reply]

I am not being paid by anyone. I am updating my own wikipedia page. Can you put back the edits please Jmwikieeditor (talk) 20:07, 15 September 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Your site recommended to create a username and thats what I did. Why would you recommend something that you are now using as a ding against me? Jmwikieeditor (talk) 20:10, 15 September 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Or who do you recommend updates my page? A friend? A secretary? What? Be clear so I know your guidelines.
Also, I want to save the content from what you deleted and use for a draft, can you send that to me? Jmwikieeditor (talk) 20:17, 15 September 2024 (UTC)[reply]
You should not edit an article about yourself. And you should not have anyone you know or who works for you (which would be considered paid editing) edit it. Wikipedia articles are independent of their subjects and should not be edited by those with a conflict of interest.
Your username makes it sound like you're someone paid to edit the article. If that's not the case, fine, but it doesn't change the main issue here which is your promotional and conflict-of-interest editing.
Please use the article's talk page and {{Edit COI}} to propose changes to the article, but promotional language like what you added is highly unlikely to be accepted.
Your edits are still there in the page history, but again, please do not re-add them yourself without discussing on the article's talk page. :Jay8g [VTE] 21:49, 15 September 2024 (UTC)[reply]
If someone I do not know adds it do they need to discuss anything with you?
Also, just so we are clear, I cannot add anything right? So what is the option for discussing on the article's talk page? I am confused about that. Jmwikieeditor (talk) 01:27, 16 September 2024 (UTC)[reply]
No one needs to discuss anything with me personally. No one has any special powers around here, and I know nothing about the subject of the article. But if you're trying to convince people off-wiki to do stuff on your behalf, that's definitely problematic. Instead, discuss on the talk page or other places on Wikipedia.
The template I gave you initially has tons of links to resources. If you still want to discuss matters with others, WP:Teahouse is a great place to start. If you just want to propose edits, follow the {{Edit COI}} process. The big thing to know is that Wikipedians don't tend to appreciate promotion of any sort -- you need to make sure to write in a neutral manner. And that is always difficult for people writing about themselves, which is why the general suggestion is to not try to write about yourself.
Again, I'd strongly suggest discussing with other editors at WP:Teahouse -- there are lots of people there who are great at helping new editors get on the right track. :Jay8g [VTE] 06:15, 16 September 2024 (UTC)[reply]
I see that you renamed yourself, and I see that User:CThompson24 has made pretty much the same exact edits to Jon Miller (television executive). I have reverted those edits again because they are still promotional -- it doesn't matter who makes the edits, promotional content is not allowed. :Jay8g [VTE] 01:31, 17 September 2024 (UTC)[reply]
I changed the user name because earlier in our talks it was advised. Just trying to comply with your suggestions and rules. As far as Cthompson24. I have no clue who that is. So maybe you should message them instead of me about that. Pnl834 (talk) 07:10, 17 September 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Also, you are saying what was submitted the other day is promotional now? I thought you said it was COI then, but now the reasoning is changed? What was submitted on 9/15/24 was all factual and not promoting anything in any way. Pnl834 (talk) 12:17, 17 September 2024 (UTC)[reply]
