Good faith edits, but in need of help[edit]

Dear Pmrbrand,

I have reverted several recent edits made by you on the articles Consumer behaviour and Market segmentation. My instinct tells me that you are trying to make good faith edits that improve articles, but I am concerned that some of your methods are leading to many of your edits being reverted by multiple different editors.

I hope that I can make a few suggestions to help:

Firstly, you have been advised to read some introductory articles about editing. Doing this before proceeding further, would be a really good idea as it would help to avoid simple errors made by new editors.

Secondly, if you wish to expand existing content, consider doing so in your sandbox before adding it to the main-space. Your sandbox is a great way to experiment with ideas, and play around with different ways of expressing ideas.

Thirdly, if you are using content sourced directly from published articles or books, please be sure to avoid potential copyright violations. This means that you cannot copy exactly from a source unless the prose is placed inside quotation marks and has an appropriate reference. Even then, quotations should be kept to a minimum and are normally only used for definitions, legal texts and such like. (See MOS:QUOTE for details). Paraphrasing is generally preferable to direct quoting, and this normally means that you must write in your own words, changing about 80% of the prose in the original (See: close paraphrasing.

Fourthly, if your edits are reverted, please think twice before adding them back again. This is even more important when your edits have been reverted and deleted from the archive by an administrator for copyright violations. If you continue to add the same or similar content without discussing your reasons on the talk page, this could be construed as "edit warring" (See WP:EDITWAR which can lead to loss of editing priveleges.

Fifthly, try to locate reliable sources for all new content added (See WP:RS) and remember to add an edit summary explaining why your edit was necessary or how it improves the article. At Wikipedia, there is a very distinctive idea of what a reliable source actually is, and it would be wise to familiarise yourself with this before continuing.

Finally, please ensure that you read articles carefully before adding new content, and take care to add the new material at a natural place within the article. There is nothing to be gained by adding content that canvasses issues covered elsewhere in the article or by adding material that leads to a disjointed, repetitive or circular piece of writing.
