I noticed you removed content (including references) from Montreal without adequately explaining why. In the future, if removing content, please make sure your edit summary adequately describes the changes being made.

Additionally, this edit was marked as minor, but it wasn't. "Minor edit" refers only to superficial edits that could never be the subject of a dispute, such as fixing typos or reverting obvious vandalism. Any edit that changes the meaning of an article is not minor, even if it only concerns a single word.

Hello!

Apologies for the minor edit thing, I didn't realize. In terms of the pronunciation, the local anglophone pronunciation is "Mun," not "Mon." The Oxford dictionary is foreign, and therefore has no bearing on the Canadian pronunciation. It would be like saying that Edinburgh is pronounced "EH-din-BUHRG" rather than "EH-din-BUH-ruh." Oh, I know the local pronunciation; I live in Montreal :) The reason I added "Mon" is because that's what the source says, and the OED is a reputable source, don't worry. If you look at the linked page (You can view the summary without a subscription), it lists the Canadian pronunciation specifically. There's also a Canadian Oxford Dictionary which has the same pronunciation for Montreal, but I decided to link the general OED since it also includes the American and British pronunciations.

If you're aware of a reliable source that has the local pronunciation specifically, by all means add it and remove "Mon". Personally I don't think I've ever heard another Canadian say "Mon", so if we could get the article to better reflect reality, all the better.

Another Montrealer! Very nice to meet you. I totally see what you're saying about the OED showing both pronunciations. To me, the version that Lazz R edited in on 2023-12-28 is a good compromise. It tells people the local pronunciation, while also letting people know that it's the Canadian pronunciation. We can even leave the OED as a source! Thank you for your time, always a pleasure to discuss my city with a fellow Montrealer.

The thing is that the article needs to reflect what the source says; we can't just pick and choose info. See No original research

I see what you mean, but don't you think it isn't helpful (and possibly even harmful) to show a pronunciation that locals don't actually use? It will just cause people to pronounce it incorrectly.
