Hi! May I know if you are Jeroen Hellingman in bohol.ph. I've read a lot of the articles at bohol.ph, and even used some as reference in articles. Hence, the interest.--Pinay06 17:57, 23 November 2006 (UTC)
- Hi, I am not the Jeroen of Bohol.ph. Jeroen is a very common first name in The Netherlands ;) I do know somebody, who knows Jeroen Hellingman however. It's a small world. I see that you uploaded many photos of Bohol. Very nice. As written in my reply on commons, I also have some more pictures available from landmarks and churches in Bohol. I will upload them soon. locator maps for Philippine Tarsier and Chocolate Hills
Is there a chance you can help with location maps for the Philippine Tarsier and the Chocolate Hills? --Pinay06 22:19, 25 November 2006 (UTC)
- I am not very good in making maps (although I studied Geodesy), but I can edit existing maps. For example the maps of User:Thecoffee. Magalhães 08:38, 26 November 2006 (UTC)
- For the Chocolate Hills, maybe you can use the then color in Sagbayan, Bohol and Batuan, Bohol. These are the primary locations of the hills, although Proclamation 1037 includes the towns of Bilar, Valencia and Sierra Bullones. --Pinay06 08:57, 1 December 2006 (UTC)
- As for the Philippine Tarsier, we can use a Map of the Philippines, and just color in their geographic range: Bohol, Samar, Leyte, and the islands: Maripipi Island, Siargao Island, Basilan Island and Dinagat Island.--Pinay06 08:57, 1 December 2006 (UTC)

re:Award for help with Sandugo and Sandugo Festival articles
- O you shouldn't have. I was merely giving my best suggestion for the article. Actually, now that Sandugo went through the DYK process, I suggest you try getting it a GA Nomination. This is the criteria and i believe it fits all those qualifications. If you think it's good enough nominate in on the candidates page, in the world history section. Follow the instructions on the candidates page. Your article should have a GA nominee like the one I'm working on, Agung. Highest Thanks. PhilipDM 19:06, 1 December 2006 (UTC)

Hello Garci scandal
Hello! I just read the Hello Garci scandal article. Very impressive! It is well written and the flow is good. I would like to see some more sentences on the results of the SWS and Pulse Asia surveys, too. Maybe just percentages especially on the Net Satisfaction ratings of President Arroyo. (It looks like to me that her net satisfaction ratings have continued to go downhill since. Eskaya
Hi Pinay06, Thanks for starting an entry on the Eskaya. I have spent the past year researching the Eskaya and as you may be aware, the history of the group is highly contested. In fact, it would be no exaggeration to say that for almost every statement made about the Eskaya in your article, there is an alternative point of view. This is not to say that your points aren’t correct, but please be aware of the controversy! You mention for instance, that the Eskaya are the object of international archaeological studies. Such studies were proposed in the early 1980s and are yet to take place. In fact, with a few notable exceptions there have been almost no qualified anthropologists, archaeologists, linguists or historians studying the group. The following researchers did have qualifications in their fields and produced successful studies: Regina Estorba, Cristina Martinez, Fr Milan Ted Torralba and Stella Consul. Some high profile local journalists, moonlighting as historians, have written things about the Eskaya which are purely speculative. The circulation of these unverifiable claims is ultimately harmful to the Eskayan people who do not always agree with these journalists but have no means of redress. The amount of chismis surrounding the Eskaya is extraordinary but the notion that they are a secret society is particularly worrying. Among field researchers they have a deserved reputation for openness and honesty. I strongly suggest that you visit the Bohol library and ask for the Eskaya file. I have recently added a folder of Eskaya research gathered from archives in Bohol, Cebu and Manila. I have also written a companion document entitled Visayan-Eskaya Secondary Source Materials: Survey & Review Part One: 1980–1993. This document is an attempt to compare and evaluate the hundreds (yes! hundreds!) of contradictions in Eskaya research. Lastly, the document includes a list of research standards ratified by the NCIP.
I’m really glad you have started an article but if you deleted everything for which there was no hard data you would be left with almost nothing! This is why I don’t wish to edit it. It's so hard to be sure of anything! In any case I am delighted to find a fellow enthusiast of this important aspect of Boholano culture and I am happy to send you any references you may need for your future research. Happy research in Bohol!Piers. pierskelly@yahoo.it --Perezkelly 07:51, 5 December 2006 (UTC)—The preceding unsigned comment was added by Perezkelly (talk • contribs) 07:33, 5 December 2006 (UTC).
Eskaya
Thank you for your message. I am currently tied up at the moment. But, I will post my response soon. Best regards.--Pinay06 08:03, 5 December 2006 (UTC)
Re your dissertation
Hello again! Thank you for your lengthy message. You have provided a very enlightening discourse on the subject. I am afraid that it is physically impossible for me to do a research at the Bohol Privincial Library, much less the Eskaya tribe right now. I am currently not in Bohol. At any rate, here are some points regarding the Eskaya article:
- You can see that I based much of the information from the current published internet resources, cited at almost every statement or paragraph.
- As I always do in writing articles in Wikipedia, I had to take into consideration the policies and guidelines of wikipedia on WP:NPOV, WP:RS, WP:V, WP:CITE, WP:NOR, WP:NOT. I made sure I maintained all of them, at least with Neutral Point of View, Verifiability, Citing sources, and No Original Research. Unfortunately, as of the moment, there is no way for me to determine the reliability of sources. (Although your dissertation gives me some insight on this!)
- I have to highlight, therefore, that the current form of the article is based on current published resources, and not original research (a no-no in Wikipedia, unfortunately). In addition, even if I want to do the actual research in Bohol, I cannot use that in the article, unless it is published. The same goes to you.
- I am determined to continue improving the article (note that I just started it on 1 December, 2006). As of today, it is in Wikipedia's Main Page in the Did you know? column on 5 December, 2006 (BTW, the main contention you have in your message) is contained there...
- Your expertise is certainly needed and welcome, especially any published resources you can provide that we can use to cite, etc.
- Please feel free to edit or improve the article. I know you said, "if you deleted everything for which there was no hard data you would be left with almost nothing!" If you have the hard data, it might help improve the article, and to allow for information on the Eskaya to be known worldwide. However, we need to be follow the guideliines of Wikipedia as I have outlined above.
I look forward to seeing more contributions from you! Best regards. --Pinay06 23:23, 5 December 2006 (UTC)
- (BTW, were you working at the PPDO?)
Did you know?

Eskaya again
Hi Pinay, thanks for your prompt response. I think we agree with one another but that some points have become confused. Just to clarify, I have not written any dissertation on the Eskaya. I have only written a government report on the classification of the Eskayan language and a kind of ‘companion guide’ to existing published research on the Eskaya. This was for the NCIP. My one and only criticism of the article is the Reliability of Sources. I mentioned the Eskaya file at the Bohol Provincial Library for the sole reason that it contains nothing but but *published* material on the Eskaya. There is no original research here and all of it is testable. I agree wholeheartedly with that Wikipedia no-no and never meant to suggest otherwise! One frustrating thing about the Eskaya is that there are many sources but they are frequently contradictory so it is necessary to make a choice based on their relative reliability. A hard task, no doubt about it, but not impossible! Thanks for the Did you know? update, that’s great. I’d love to send you a pdf of the ‘companion’ document. It contains names of sources, dates, page numbers, quotations - everything you need up to 1993. Just drop me a line at pierskelly@yahoo.it Cheers, Piers. PS. I don’t mean to be at all discouraging – I’m really genuinely thrilled that, thanks to your efforts, pinoy and Boholano culture have a much higher profile on the web. I just get a bit emotional sometimes because of the many friends I have in the Eskaya community. —The preceding unsigned comment was added by 220.235.8.144 (talk) 00:50, 6 December 2006 (UTC).
Hello! Sure, I'd be willing to help you on this one. I'd like to take a look at where the article stands right now, then I'll try to make the necessary changes as much as possible. I would also like to see how the recent goings-on at the Bastusang Batasang Pambansa would fit in here. --- Tito Pao 18:41, 6 December 2006 (UTC)
That was fast! Thanks so much! For awhile there, I got frustrated, plus my wireless laptop played a trick on me! Anyway, your quick "to the rescue" is much appreciated. I wonder what to do with the template now???--Pinay06 08:21, 9 December 2006 (UTC)
You're welcome. I've tried checking other articles using this template (there are quite a few) but every one of them has the same issue -- the template is full-screen and bumps the body of the article. I'm checking to see if I can change the coding of the template to prevent this. This is something I'm not accustomed to dealing with so right now it is trial and error. If I can get it to work properly, I'll go ahead and edit the articles using the template so everything shows properly. SWAdair 08:25, 9 December 2006 (UTC)
- Okey. I thought the problem had to do with my wireless/internet connection, etc. Well, thanks again and happy editing. Have a nice weekend! --Pinay06 08:30, 9 December 2006 (UTC)
- I will alert the Philippine Notice Board on the issue at Wikipedia talk:Tambayan Philippines.--Pinay06 09:08, 9 December 2006 (UTC)

Hi! I need your help again. I was moving Dekada 70 to Dekada '70 last night because the latter is the correct title of both film and novel. Somehow, when I made a new edit, my browser took me to the old Dekada 70, etc. I wonder if you can intervene on the move for me. I am currently the only author of the article. Thanks. --Pinay06 talk 23:55, 9 December 2006 (UTC)
- What you'll need to do is tag the incorrectly titled article (Dekada 70) with {{db-author}} and then it will be deleted as a matter of housekeeping. SWAdair 06:27, 10 December 2006 (UTC)
Hello! I don't know how sane or how crazy this sounds to you, but I'm actually thinking of re-reading my aunt's copy of the novel (I'm not sure if the one she has is the original version, but it's a really old copy). The reason is, I don't remember exactly what happens in the novel, and I need to re-orient myself =) --- Tito Pao 03:01, 13 December 2006 (UTC)
- Hello! Sorry for the long delay, I've had a really busy weekend (you know how it is with choirs on Christmas time :) Anyway, I do agree with the proposal to split the book and the movie because, in some respects, each of these are notable on their own; since the discussion for both the movie and the book are getting long enough on their own terms, having them on the same place might have the unfortunate circumstance of
If the article will be split into two, there are also a lot of opportunities in improving each of these articles. For one, the movie article could have something like a "Difference between the novel and the book" section (for starters, the Lord of the Rings articles have these). The novel, on the other hand, could get a lot of treatment about its reception when it was published (during the Marcos era) once the movie sections is excised; we could also be free to add more input about criticisms for/against the book. (I'm still setting my sights on improving the "Context" section, but since I wasn't born (yet) during Martial Law, I really need a lot of reading to do :) --- Tito Pao 12:51, 19 December 2006 (UTC)
Your expertise is needed!
Hi! I wrote the article Eskaya, but in collaboration with others who have done actual research on this cultural minority, came up with a revision which is presently in Visayan-Eskaya. We are merging both, with the current Visayan-Eskaya as the current main content but retaining the title Eskaya. The other author User:Perezkelly wrote that in the Talk:Visayan-Eskaya. I also have emails to this effect. How to do it? Please help! Thanks so much!!!--Pinay06 05:47, 12 December 2006 (UTC)
- If I understood that correctly, you want the article to eventually reside at Eskaya, but you want to use the text at Visayan-Eskaya as the basis for the article. In that case, the best way to avoid GFDL issues is to:
- 1) Replace the text currently at Eskaya with the text from Visayan-Eskaya. Add the template {{inuse}} to the top of Eskaya. When you do this, use the edit summary "Merge from Visayan-Eskaya."
- 2) Redirect Visayan-Eskaya to Eskaya.
- 3) Now return to Eskaya and work on it until you're finished. Each time you re-instate text from the previous version, use the edit summary "Re-instating text from earlier version."
- 4) When you're done, remove the {{inuse}} template.
- This process is similar to the one explained at Wikipedia:Merging and moving pages. The reason I suggest doing it this way is that if you merge text from one article to another, you should use an edit summary indicating where the text originally came from, in order to satisfy GFDL requirements. If you merged from Eskaya to Visayan-Eskaya, and then merged the finished text back to Eskaya, you would have to be careful with the edit summaries to keep an accurate record of attribution. Even if you did, the attribution record would be needlessly complicated. It is easier to simply over-write the article at Eskaya and then merge what you want from the earlier version. Also note that when you merge articles, you cannot delete the one you merged from (that would destroy the record of edit history and violate GFDL). That means the one you merge from should become a redirect pointing to the article you merge to. I hope that was clear without being too complicated. If you still have questions, please feel free to ask. SWAdair 06:19, 12 December 2006 (UTC)
- Okey. Thanks for the step-by-step explanation. Sounds complicated to me now (like the archiving I did today!) but your outline will guide me through. Your suggestion is very logical. There is still much information in Eskaya that will be retained. And yes, I was going to redirect Visayan-Eskaya to Eskaya. Having told you of the intention, do I have a timeline to do this? Or can the merge be done within the week. Once again, thank you for the expertise! --Pinay06 06:36, 12 December 2006 (UTC)
- No timeline, but since Eskaya has been edited by quite a few people, some of whom may be interested in it, it would be best not to keep the article in a work state for any longer than necessary. If the merging would take several days, it might be best to do all of the merging offline in a word processor and only merge once you have it polished. That would prevent prolonged interruption of the main article. SWAdair 07:18, 12 December 2006 (UTC)

The Eskaya edit conflict
Just wonderinng if you saw the in use tag...I was on a major overhaul of the article, and much work that I did was lost because of your edit. Thanks, anyway. --Pinay06 19:13, 12 December 2006 (UTC)
- Sorry about that, I was using the live spellcheck, which automatically plops me into "Show Changes" mode, and the "In use" tag is often not obvious, if visible at all. You should not be forced to lose your edits, however. If you hit such an edit conflict again, open a different browser window and look at the article's history to see what the other editor changed. If the other change is minor, as mine was, you can copy your entire version of the article to the clipboard (usually Ctrl-A and then Ctrl-C keys), then edit the article again and paste your whole version in (Ctrl-A and then Ctrl-V keys). That way only the minor version gets walked on, and you can easily fix that, if you like. Please let me know if you have any other questions, as I usually try to help. Sorry again. Chris the speller 21:21, 12 December 2006 (UTC)
- Hi! Thanks for the reply, and the advice. Actually, after I messaged you, I saw on the history that another editor was doing another major overhaul on my overhaul, like re arranging the sections around. The hard part was I was inputting the citations, and it was hard to do it with the sections all over the place. Anyway, I did not know the tag can be invisible. Maybe when you use the popups or other software huh? Anyway, since you asked, maybe you can go back to the article and spell check again for me. That will be a big help. Thanks again.--Pinay06 21:30, 12 December 2006 (UTC)
- Sure thing. There were only two changes for me to make. You may want to review the plural, in some places "Eskaya" and in others "Eskayas". Nice work, and happy editing! Chris the speller 22:15, 12 December 2006 (UTC)

I am happy to take requests for putting a little polish on articles. The good part of these requests is that I know that any cleanup is appreciated, because the authors take real pride in the articles, up to the point where they see the note at the bottom of the edit page "If you don't want your writing to be edited mercilessly ..." ;-) Drop a note on my talk page any time. Chris the speller 22:37, 12 December 2006 (UTC) I think 9 out of 10 editors would use "and" in place of "&", but I was reluctant to make that change, since the article was generally well written. In such an article, the original author usually gets the benefit of the doubt, since it is apparent that a lot of thought and work went into it. It's more encyclopedic to use "does not" for "doesn't", "kilometer" for "km", "September" for "Sept.", etc. Chris the speller 00:00, 13 December 2006 (UTC)
- Oh, and congratulate me for the milestone (at the bottom of my user page) that "Chocolate Hills" helped me reach :-) Chris the speller 00:03, 13 December 2006 (UTC)

Re Francis Escudero footnotes
Hello! I haven't double checked the Help pages if what I did is allowed. However, for all practical purposes, I decided to give it a go because you can sometimes footnotes like these in serious books (for example, the one I'm reading right now, William Shirer's The Rise and Fall of the Third Reich has lots of these on the endnotes...some of the endnotes do not merely cite the source, they also give out explanations). So essentially, what I tried to do was to make it more like the footnotes of...well, a real book =) --- Tito Pao 02:34, 13 December 2006 (UTC)
- I double-checked the guidelines for citation, and it says that it is allowed. Under "What footnotes are normally used for", it says:
- Some publications use footnotes for both the full citation of a source, and for additional comments or information of interest to the reader. (emphasis added)
- So this means I'm off the hook, then ;) ;)
- Sure, I'll take a look at Dekada 70. What interests me for now is how to develop an effective background to the novel. However, my history is a little rusty, so I need to read and re-read Philippine history again =) --- 02:43, 13 December 2006 (UTC)
Showbiz and politics
Well...with the current state of affairs, showbiz and entertainment are almost indistinguishable from each other, so what's the difference anyway (haha ;) --- Tito Pao 15:59, 13 December 2006 (UTC)
Footnotes
Hi! I read your message to TitoPao asking how to generate footnotes. I hope you don't mind me butting in. I did not know how to do footnotes myself then I went to [[3]]. I did most of the footnotes on Jose Rizal. At the end of the article you could place the tag : < references />, which is below the editing sandbox, then add the headline ==Notes== or ==Footnotes==. You don't have to number them. They generate by themselves. The tags to use can also be found below the editing sandbox under Wiki markup : (the ref/ref in between < > </>.I cannot type the exact tags as they will be cited as error). Good luck!KaElin 19:15, 13 December 2006 (UTC)
Citing references
Hi again! Thanks for the compliments! Here's a good link on citing Wiki references: http://wiki.riteme.site//wiki/Wikipedia:Citing_sources.I love your gallery of images! Are they in the public domain? KaElin 20:00, 13 December 2006 (UTC)
- Hi again. Thank you. I actually use the ref ref tag in the section on References, not Footnotes. Now, if there is both a references and footnotes section, how do you distinguish? BTW, I have reserved the References as the sources of info, the footnotes as additional info or adlibs to the topic, not a reference. For the pics, I think I've released most of them in commons in public domain. Feel free to use them. Ingat! --Pinay06 20:07, 13 December 2006 (UTC)
Footnotes vs. References
I think you use Footnotes if you're not only citing the references (that is, author, title of book, etc), but also some other comments that you may want to add yourself which may not be of relevance to the sentence or paragraph that you just cited. But don't take my word for it! You could ask some other editors. I think the rule is: under footnotes, you just cite the last name and the title of the book (e.g., Rizal, Noli me tangere, page. 23).And then you can add some comments if you want. While in the "References" section you make a full citation (e.g., Jose Rizal, Noli me Tangere, published 1899, Manila, Manila Publishing Co. , etc.) I failed to follow this rule on Jose Rizal which I should revise. Thanks for the invite to use some of your images. I might do just that !KaElin 20:58, 13 December 2006 (UTC)

- Hi again! No problem. I am not too well oriented with stubs, but I looked in the link you gave me and changed the bio-stub to academic-bio-stub + Philippines-writer-stub, if that's okey with you. Anyway, happy editing! --24.24.187.104 01:51, 14 December 2006 (UTC)Sorry about that. My wireless laptop just logs me out all the time! --Pinay06 01:53, 14 December 2006 (UTC)

This is to thank you for the help with the Eskaya article. It is in place now, though there is still some more rooom for improvement. --Pinay06|talk|cont 02:48, 15 December 2006 (UTC)
- Thank you. I'm glad to see everything went smoothly. Good job, BTW. SWAdair 02:54, 15 December 2006 (UTC)
- Oh, you cannot imagine how hard it was! I did not know editors with software, like spellchecker, couldn't see the inuse tag! At any rate, it's done. Just needing some more polishing. You can take a look and give your honest/open critique...--Pinay06|talk|cont 02:58, 15 December 2006 (UTC)
