on my sisters talk page could you remove the most recent thing as I find that to be an insult calling her a diva when she's 13 and won't understand things like you or me. I would do it myself but it's protected. Picopa (talk) 02:55, 22 November 2010 (UTC)

Autoconfirmed

{{adminhelp}} hi there, can I be auto confirmed so I can reply to a message on my sisters talk page? - Picopa (talk) 12:39, 22 November 2010 (UTC)

No. If she is your sister, I'm sure you have other ways of communicating with her other than via her talk page. —  Tivedshambo  (t/c) 12:45, 22 November 2010 (UTC)
it's to reply to a comment on her page but as it's protected I can't. Picopa (talk) 14:13, 22 November 2010 (UTC)

Keeping cool

is the writing on User talk:86.144.119.83 allowed? Picopa (talk) 14:52, 22 November 2010 (UTC)

That page's user is blocked. I have blanked it. --Alpha Quadrant talk 14:55, 22 November 2010 (UTC)

Talkback

Hello, Picopa. You have new messages at Alpha Quadrant's talk page.
Message added 14:51, 22 November 2010 (UTC). You can remove this notice at any time by removing the {{Talkback}} or {{Tb}} template.

"you have new messages"

but nothing has changed? might be a bug somewhere

If you look at the edit history of your talk page, you'll see that an unfriendly IP editor added something to it, which another editor removed. This mean that the talk page has been touched, and that's why you get the orange banner. Favonian (talk) 11:29, 23 November 2010 (UTC)

Sigs

Hi there, im creating the sig user talk:picopa/sig for my sister but it wont fit into the box but I have seen other sigs what change colour in different posts so I was wondering how they were created.

Thanks

Picopa (talk) 12:55, 23 November 2010 (UTC)

You can look at other people's signatures by clicking the "Edit" link as usual. For example, Alpha Quadrant's signature is further up the page. That one is about 221 characters long, less than the 255 limit mentioned at Wikipedia:Signatures. -- John of Reading (talk) 13:19, 23 November 2010 (UTC)
Iv read it but take a look at this, how would that fit? Picopa (talk) 13:27, 23 November 2010 (UTC)
I think this would have been configured in Special:Preferences as something like "{{subst:User:Thesevenseas/Signature}}". Thanks to some deep template magic, the result of the "subst" comes to about 220 characters, less than the limit. I found a discussion of that signature here. -- John of Reading (talk) 13:54, 23 November 2010 (UTC)
ohh so thats what subst does, iv changed the preferances so lets see if its works Sophie (Talk) 14:03, 23 November 2010 (UTC)
yay :D thanks for that :D Picopa (talk) 14:04, 23 November 2010 (UTC)
Yes, technically it has worked, but your signature doesn't use any magic to keep the size down. It contravenes the guideline at Wikipedia:Signatures - "The software will automatically truncate both plain and raw signatures to 255 characters of code in the signature box. If substitution of templates or another page is used, please be careful to verify that you are not violating the length limit, as the software will not do this automatically." -- John of Reading (talk) 14:18, 23 November 2010 (UTC)
yea, im working on that as I think the person with the sig what changed colour used 2 templates kinda like this
page with sig -> sig in template
and the sig in template page was put into the sig box. Picopa (talk) 14:27, 23 November 2010 (UTC)
yea that worked :D see the test below :D - Picopa (talk) 14:42, 23 November 2010 (UTC)

Sophie (Talk) 14:39, 23 November 2010 (UTC)

Sorry to go on about this, but without the "subst" you're contravening a different part of Wikipedia:Signatures, where it says "Transclusions of templates and parser functions in signatures (like those which appear as {{User:Name/sig}}, for example) are forbidden." -- John of Reading (talk) 14:51, 23 November 2010 (UTC)
oh :( then how would you get it to work and be short (for wiki code) - Picopa (talk) 14:55, 23 November 2010 (UTC)
Could you manage with fewer colours, copying Alpha Quadrant's example? -- John of Reading (talk) 14:59, 23 November 2010 (UTC)
although it's the same as user:dusti - Picopa (talk) 17:03, 23 November 2010 (UTC)
