WikiMarkup
[edit]Hey Phiz, welcome to WP! I want to give you some quick pointers on WikiMarkup that will alleviate the need to use HTML markup and simplify your life. A more complete explanation can be found at the How to edit a page page.
- Unordered lists
To create an unordered list you only need to use an asterisk (*) before each line, it will automatically create an unordered list.
Example:
* List item 1 * List item 2
will create
- List item 1
- List item 2
This alleviates the need to use the whole <ul><li></li></ul> html markup. Adding a double asterisk after the first single one will create a sub-list.
Example:
* List item 1 ** Sub item 1 ** Sub item 2 * List item 2
will create
- List item 1
- Sub item 1
- Sub item 2
- List item 2
- Ordered lists
To create an ordered list you only need to use an pound symbol (#) before each line, it will automatically create an unordered list
Example:
# List item 1 # list item 2
will create
- List item 1
- list item 2
This alleviates the need to use the whole <ol><li></li></ol> html markup. Doubling up on the pound sign will produce the same result as with a double asterisk.
Example:
# List item 1 ## Sub item 1 ## Sub item 2 # List item 2
will create
- List item 1
- Sub item 1
- Sub item 2
- List item 2
- Line breaks
To start a new paragraph, just hit "ENTER" twice to create a new paragraph. You do not need to add html breaks (<br/>).
- Indents
To indent a line, just add a colon (:) when you start to type.
Example:
:text
will produce
- text
This will also automatically create a line break at the end, so you can continue typing right after a line break. The more colons you add, the more indented it will be. Just indenting using a single space will produce one of the boxes you see in the examples
- Italics and Bold
To italicize and bold words, use single quote marks, two for italics and three for bold
Example:
''Italics'', '''Bold'''
will produce Italics, Bold
