March 2023

[edit]

I am sorry to say this but this edit shows that you lack competence in edits related to the Russian language. May I please aks you to refrain from such edits in the future, or at least ask users who understand the subject for help. Thank you for your understanding. Ymblanter (talk) 21:14, 13 March 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Compare this to Olympian's edit, which related to Caucasus Viceroy. You know what? I wanted to make it as similar as possible to the past, in particular, the orthography in 1897, which was the year of the census. I probably questioned why he edited it, and it didn't have any effect. But why did I do it, and why it was reverted back to the old revision? You probably understand this. -- Phaisit16207 (talk) 13:25, 14 March 2023 (UTC)[reply]
First, we already have the old Russian spelling in the lede, it is done by a different template. Second, not even discussing whether the old spelling should be in the article at all (which as far as I am concerned never happened) the Governorate survived well into the times when Russian was transferred to the new orthography, and there is no reason to replace the Russian name in the new one by the old one. Ymblanter (talk) 15:40, 14 March 2023 (UTC)[reply]
All right, but I want to preserve the orthography from 1897. Some countries, i.e., Estonia, became independent before the orthography was changed. So, in the table of counties, should I use old or new ortho? -- Phaisit16207 (talk) 16:17, 14 March 2023 (UTC)[reply]
I would say always the new one. I do not see any reason to use the old one. Ymblanter (talk) 16:22, 14 March 2023 (UTC)[reply]
