- After a quick search I can't find the article you're referring to (deleted or otherwise). If you can give me the exact article title I can review it again. Peter 12:05, 26 February 2011 (UTC)
Hello again
[edit]Hello, Peter. Nice to hear from you again. Some months ago I was going to post you a message, but looking at your contributions history it looked as though you had disappeared, so I didn't bother. (I see there is a gap in your history from 17 November 2010 to 26 February 2011.) Your message on my talk page has alerted me to the fact that you are still around. I don't remember now quite what I intended to write to you back then, but I think the essential point was something to the effect of "Hey, being an admin has turned out to be rather different than I expected, but an interesting experience. Thanks again for the nomination." There was more to it than that, but I think that was probably the essence of it. I see it is a few weeks short of a year since you nominated me at RfA. The admin tools have now become so much second nature to me that it is surprising to realise that less than a year ago I didn't have them. As for the arbitration case, I think it was pretty obvious from the start that it was never going to go anywhere. I don't know how much if any you have seen of the past history of the case and Mindbunny's editing, but the whole business is very silly and an utter waste of time. Actually I find a great deal of the admin work I find myself involved in is a waste of time, in the sense that it is dealing with unhelpful behaviour of editors without which I could be doing more constructive work. This one is particularly bad in that respect, because each time the matter seems to have been dealt with, Mindbunny comes back with another way of bringing the whole matter back again, with Wikipedia:Requests for comment/Sandstein and Wikipedia:Arbitration/Requests/Case#Does WP:BLP forbid criticizing people; Administrator abuse:Sandstein, JamesBWatson (later retitled) are the latest two of these actions. - I've never really disappeared (even though I realise it looks that way), more just had breaks in active editing depending on how busy I am with other things. I do keep an eye on (some of) what is going on though, reading the signpost etc. I haven't been following the history of that case, I just read the section on the arbitration requests page when I saw your name mentioned in connection with it on your talk page. While of course you don't want to waste too much time on the time wasters they do need to be dealt with for the sake of others editing more productively. So overall it's still a valuable activity to be involved in, just feel free to step back from that and do something else if it it starts bothering you too much - that's the great thing about any voluntary work, you don't have to do it!
