wikipedians

I know that there are more wikipedians but,how do I find them?—Preceding unsigned comment added by Usaman2 (talkcontribs)

Dork 'Stereotype'...

I didn't 'add' any nonsense to the 'dork' article, I removed the inaccurate stereotype description. The stereotype there is describing a nerd. Look at the 'nerd' article and look at the pictures on there, which clearly fit the description listed on the 'dork' page.

'Any good-faith effort to improve the encyclopedia, even if misguided or ill-considered, is not vandalism.'

The stereotype description is inaccurate, that is why I removed it. I would say that there isn't a visual stereotype for a dork, that it is more in the way the person acts.

Thanks, ThePotsy 01:05, 30 November 2006 (UTC)

Sorry to undermine you PPG, I removed that template in the spirit of not biting the new users and WP:VANDAL#What_vandalism_is_not|what vandalism is not. This is a common error when fighting vandalism and I have made the same mistake myself. If you disagree I am ready to listen. HighInBC (Need help? Ask me) 01:17, 30 November 2006 (UTC)

Don't worry I misread the content from a previous copy on Dork. It was a mistake during RC Patrol.¤~Persian Poet Gal (talk) 01:17, 30 November 2006 (UTC)

User:Andrew Winston

Persian Poet Gal, Is it a form of vandalism to edit your own page? I have been editing mine and User:Warthog Demon has warned me twice about it. I don't understand what I am doing wrong. Can you help me?—Preceding unsigned comment added by Andrew Winston (talkcontribs)

  • Warthog is not an admin, only admins can issue blocks, users however can leave warnings that alerts suspected vandalizers of their rule breaking. Here is what you can do to help: try to sign in while editing your user page. Also, you may want to drop a note on Warthog's talk page that you have edited your page with an anonymous IP frequently. I'm sure Warthog will understand, as I did. One last thing, don't forget to sign your comments with four tildes at the end (~~~~) to properly sign and date your entries.¤~Persian Poet Gal (talk) 06:04, 30 November 2006 (UTC)

Sockpuppet questions

Hi, I've seen you around a lot, and today I noticed that you tagged User:HAPPINESS 1 2 3 6 as a suspected sockpuppet. It seems you're experience in this area, so I'm hoping you might have some advice:

The article Bryan Brandenburg has been nom'd for AfD at Brandenburg AfD. Due to disruptive edits on these pages, I suspect that Stanlys212 (talk contribs page moves  block user block log) is a mask for either Bryan B himself, or one of his "disciples". The contrib history is brief, and the disruptive edits fairly obvious.
Similarly, WatchedHim (talk contribs page moves  block user block log) and Smurf noodle (talk contribs page moves  block user block log) have been named as suspected sockpuppets by other involved editors; their Contribs are even briefer.
The edits they have all made, and the sophistication about WP practices and policies that they show make it fairly obvious that these are not newcomers by any means.
At the AfD, I added a tag under Stanlys212's comment, indicating that he had made few or no other contribs (zero actually) prior to this discussion. In retaliation, he has added nonsense posts regarding the nominator (who is somewhat new, but a very conscientous good-faith editor). Heh! And I just got a new bit of rubbish from him on my talkpage, while I was typing this to you. This situation seems to be an abuse of the AfD process and any number of policies. Can you advise me on how best to proceed? Thanks in advance for your time! Doc Tropics 21:39, 1 December 2006 (UTC)
You mean you're not an admin?!? Huh, I just assumed...
Thanks for the advice, I'll see what I can do. Doc Tropics 21:49, 1 December 2006 (UTC)
  • Added this to his talk page: Also one last thing, if you ever feel high suspicions of sockpuppetry you can tag their page with this template: {{sockpuppet|name of user that is using the account as a sockpuppet}}. If you ever need to make a case file regarding the sockpuppetry get back to me on that and I'll walk you through it, but first check with admin on this. Hope this helps.¤~Persian Poet Gal (talk) 21:53, 1 December 2006 (UTC)

Apologetic

Well, I suppose you can't be faulted for excessive civility. I just thought you might leave the incorrect impression that we were somehow ashamed of having that as the front page article's subject. In reality, the history of eroticism is immensely interesting to the fields of archaeology, anthropology, and sociology. It's a far more meritous topic for the front page than some band or game species. (I'm no anti-pop culture editor either, as you probably noticed in my contributions.)

Thanks for the barnstar by the way. Not sure I deserve it, but if you say so. :) --tjstrf talk 08:34, 3 December 2006 (UTC)

Personal Attack?

I left my message for Jimbo Wale, not you. Please don't erase my comments on Jimbo Wale's talk page. I didn't attack User:Khoikhoi in any way. All S/he needs to do is to explain why s/he choose Khoikhoi as his/her user name. You can see from the Khoikhoi article that his/her user name definitely has a racism concern. Even if S/he is a Khoikhoi, his/her user name is still inappropriate. NKH 17:22, 3 December 2006 (UTC)

[if I could butt in] But the word isn't even deragatory. By that reasoning, no one can have any mention of race in their username. Which means, that, oh, say, Persian Poet Gal is out of line for her username. -Patstuart(talk)(contribs) 17:40, 3 December 2006 (UTC)

NKH, it still is considered unfounded to view the intention as racist. In my opinion I do not consider the name as offensive and I myself have a username which mentions ethnicity. Why not ask the question about Khoikhoi's name to Khoikhoi directly rather than leaving a message on Jimbo's talk page?¤~Persian Poet Gal (talk) 23:11, 3 December 2006 (UTC)

Sorry to butt in as well but I dont see anything wrong with your user name Persian Poet Gal. I think its really unique =) MetsFan76 23:16, 3 December 2006 (UTC) (Sorry..forgot to sign)

Incorrect vandalism warning

http://wiki.riteme.site/w/index.php?title=Loma_Linda_University_Medical_Center&diff=92395821&oldid=92394809 This] revert should not have been labelled as vandalism, and the editor should not have been labelled as a vandal or "warned" for it. Although the statement was incorrect, there was no direct evidence that it was done in bad faith. Ansell 06:20, 6 December 2006 (UTC)

  • Sorry, on recent changes patrol there are revert edits which can be incorrect or marked incorrectly. It was so drastically out of place that it came across as vandalism. Again my apologies if it was merely an incorrect edit.¤~Persian Poet Gal (talk) 06:34, 6 December 2006 (UTC)
  • Admittedly that edit does not look okay, however, using evidence from March, when the IP could reasonably be said to be a shared ip [3], is a little misleading. It looks like, and I am going to tag it as a shared IP educational institution editor per the IP address. Ansell 07:37, 6 December 2006 (UTC)

Persian Poet Gal hello,

Please reconsider excluding my links from wiki. They r indeed to a specific site but that site has articles which wikipedia's readers can find helpful & learn a lot from. Please notice that Omedia is an academic and not a commercial site – it sells nothing and doesn't even have ads in it. Please reconsider. yuval —The preceding unsigned comment was added by Yuval a (talkcontribs) 13:19, 7 December 2006 (UTC).

  • Hello Yuval a, the link still does not seem appropriate enough to add to the article. I appreciate you asking to reconsider respectfully but according to this edit of Lebanon administrator Nlu had reverted your addition of an omedia link. The omedia link may not meet the requirements of WP:External Links. That's the only reason why one might consider it spam to add it to articles. If you still feel that the link is appropriate, leave a message on the article talk page appealing to its editors. They have more say in reality than I do considering that the editors of the article contribute to it more largely than any recent changes patroller does. Hope this helps you.¤~Persian Poet Gal (talk) 14:29, 7 December 2006 (UTC)

George W. Bush

The following entry refers to this diff which I reverted of Psdubow's. Psdubow later left a message which explained that the random spamming of the ###### symbols in replacement of words was due to a server error.

Dear Ms. Persian Poet Gal,

The "Fun" Facts I added to the George W. Bush page is not "vandalism" as you said it was.

Bush's approval rating and the War in Iraq approval rating are entirely factual and up-to-date.

Also, the "fun" fact about when someone Googles the words "Failure" or "Worst President" one of the first things that shows up under search results is Pres. Bush's biography is entirely true.

If tried multiple times from my computer and other computers. Every time I tried typing either on of those phrases it listed Pres. Bush's biography within the first ten results.

If you wish to reply, please put your reply on my talk page.

Thanks!

Sincerely,

Psdubow

I can't for the life of me figure out this user's edits. At first I thought he was a vandal, reconsidered, and am back to wondering. That's the third time he's made that same edit to George W. Bush. [4] [5] [6]. His edits also seem to blank content from other pages: [7] [8] [9]. I'm starting to wonder if he has one of those programs on his computer that parents install to block questionable content. Those last three links block out XXX, fetish, and bondage, respectively. I don't think it is intentional blanking...thoughts? AuburnPilottalk 21:40, 8 December 2006 (UTC)
Looking at his most recent edit, the word "hard" appears to have been blanked out. [10] I think he must have a content blocker installed. I'm not really sure there's anything we can do to avoid this problem, though. AuburnPilottalk 21:48, 8 December 2006 (UTC)
Yeah, I tried to revert it and my computer is now screwing with me...sorry about that. AuburnPilottalk 21:58, 8 December 2006 (UTC)

Edits

Dear Administrators,

It is a server error.

I even asked a more computer savy user and friend to help me and explain to me what is happening to me when I am trying to edit.

It has already happen to me on the Pres. Bush page, the Dr. James McCune Smith page, and others. It has also happened to other users too.

I am trying to edit stuff, but it keeps on doing this ("######") on some words. They are not offensive words! For instance, some of the words were hard, freedom, security, etc.

I am not trying to do anything wrong and I would be happy to help try and revert this server error and to fix the pages accidentally damaged by myself and others.

Sorry for any trouble I am causing you guys!

Thanks!

Sincerely,

Psdubow

  • Well alright, I will assume good faith and not scrutinize you for a server error. I am not an administrator, I voluntarily patrol recent changes. Please however consider testing in the sandbox for awhile before you continue to edit articles just in case.¤~Persian Poet Gal (talk) 22:06, 8 December 2006 (UTC)

Thank you for giving me the benefit-of-the-doubt.

By the way, do you guys know what's causing this server error?

No offence, but I don't really need to use the "sandbox". I, for the most part, already know how to edit.

To prove it, please check out the work my friend and I did on the Dr. James McCune Smith page.

I want to be productive and add stuff to help improve important articles and articles I'm interested in.

Thanks!

Psdubow

  • I'm not mentioning the sandbox to learn how to edit, I'm saying to test in there if the error is persisting. Unfortunately I am unaware what may be causing the error but I wish the best of luck to you, and hope that the problem corrects itself or you find someone who knows how to fix it.¤~Persian Poet Gal (talk) 22:19, 8 December 2006 (UTC)

I have remade a edit for Raven Bishop with a different picture this time and the article with the tag that it was my work, I hope you can make this public domain for everyone to look up. My new nick's Etta85 with a new account deleted from the old. —The preceding unsigned comment was added by Etta85 (talkcontribs) 23:15, 9 December 2006 (UTC).

I tried to recreate to fit the standards for Wikipedia, and it was my hard work that made it with the hours I spent on it. You can delete the old one but please keep the one I redid and make it public domain.

Thank you,

Raven Bishop —The preceding unsigned comment was added by Etta85 (talkcontribs) 23:25, 9 December 2006 (UTC).

Can the article and the picture about Raven Bishop that I wrote about myself be saved after all? —The preceding unsigned comment was added by Etta85 (talkcontribs) 23:44, 9 December 2006 (UTC).

So, what can you do to make the article saved? —The preceding unsigned comment was added by Etta85 (talkcontribs) 00:23, 10 December 2006 (UTC).

  • I am trying to explain to you that the person in question does not meet WP:BIO guidelines to be included. She and her work unfortunately are not notable enough to merit her a page on Wikipedia. If she does gain enough notability to meet WP:BIO guidelines then a page is completely merited.¤~Persian Poet Gal (talk) 00:26, 10 December 2006 (UTC)

The biography of Raven Bishop is at poethunter.com I hope you can read it and the article on Wikipedia that I recently re-wrote. I have Mp3 lyrics and poetry about me, Raven Bishop online as well as project on Wikipedia in writing and poetry about my biography, I wrote.

Sincerely,

Raven Bishop—Preceding unsigned comment added by Etta85 (talkcontribs)

Do you have an idea to put me on Wikipedia successfully? —The preceding unsigned comment was added by Etta85 (talkcontribs) 05:21, 10 December 2006 (UTC).

The Right To Publish

I thought people could have the right to publish their biographies as long as they had a reliable source to them and I did.

Yours truly,

Raven Bishop —The preceding unsigned comment was added by Etta85 (talkcontribs) 05:26, 10 December 2006 (UTC).

  • Etta I understand you are an aspiring artist much like myself however at this current time you do not have the requirements to have a Wikipedia article. If your body of work becomes printed by notable publishers and your work is recognized by multiple notable independent reviews or awards then the circumstances would be otherwise. First I would suggest that you read WP:BIO to get an idea of the notability required for Wikipedia.¤~Persian Poet Gal (talk) 05:27, 10 December 2006 (UTC)

I believe that you were thinking of my evil twin, User:Gracenotes ON WHEELS!!!. I apologize for any confusion of yours between him and me, and would encourage you to look out for him in the near future.

My edit was just intended to make the paragraph more in the style of ze famous Swedish Chef, with the added unapproachability of the German language. Perhaps you could tell that the paragraph was already relatively Swedish/German, and just needed a bit more børking. Ze CableModem (is ze isomophic of ze Buickid on ze IRC) wrote the paragraph in half-jest, so I attempted to improve the voice without removing or obfuscating any content.

More seriously, thanking you for having the decency and consideration to note your revert on my talk page, even though my edit was a silly one to begin with. Gracenotes T § 19:43, 10 December 2006 (UTC)

Hello!

Why Dogup.com is spam? This is a website with a lot of FREE information for dog lovers.—Preceding unsigned comment added by Wikidogs (talkcontribs)

Hello, Why did you think about this is non-notable fansite? How do you know? Did you look aroud the website? Please let me know. The website have around 4000 pages with UNIQUE content, you can see it with copyscape.com—Preceding unsigned comment added by Wikidogs (talkcontribs)

Hello, You said, Wikipedia is not a repository of links, I'm VERY AGREE, I saw your entries and these links arent very strong, but dont worry, only TWO editors (you and another one) said that the website is not relevant (TWO editors in Thousands). For example your entries about movies arent notable for me, and I could delete your entries, but maybe for another editors are notable, what do you think? Please just for know, how do you check if a website is relevant or not? Thanks very much to talk with me :)—Preceding unsigned comment added by Wikidogs (talkcontribs)

  • Sure no problem, but understand that the reason why this may also be not included is because the addition of this link is as if the article promotes that website. Wikipedia is not made up of advert links which do not add on relevantly to the article. For example, the Food article on Wikipedia includes a few links to websites which are notable and relevant to the article. Notice however that it does not include other popular websites like Epicurious.com whose Alexa rank is way higher than Dogup.com's Alexa rank. Hope this helps.¤~Persian Poet Gal (talk) 03:08, 11 December 2006 (UTC)

Hello! :) Look at Dog Food, there are link http://www.aplus-flint-river-ranch.com/faqs-pet-food-nutrition.php, Dog up alexa rank is better than aplus-flint-river.... and the domain looks like spammy, right? If you see at Dog Up, this have free information, about dog breeds, dog names, dog photos, dog supplies, is more relevant, this is my opinion maybe no for you, if you browse Dog up, your learn about dogs, learn about dog names, etc. I think you should approve Dog up, this is my opinion, there are many link in Wiki (I have used Wiki for year, also I have donated money, etc) with Alexa 1500000 or more.

PS: As you can see I am not a spammer, I am sharing a nice resouce about dogs. Best regards :)—Preceding unsigned comment added by Wikidogs (talkcontribs)

  • I again appreciate your very polite approach but even that link is suscetible to being considered inappropriate. I think just avoid adding the Dogup.com link for now. As a editer it is generally encouraged to avoid link only contributions. I'm sure you will add on to articles with very good information in the future rather than just links. Hi, I saw you flagged my entry for speedy deletion. This is my first time posting, so sorry if I screwed up!

I'm not sure what I did wrong. This is a movie in development and I wanted to include it on the site. I put in links to the production and management companies. Is there anything else I should add?

Thanks!

  • No worries there was nothing drastically wrong with it. The production did not seem notable enough and therefore was speedily deleted (see WP:N). There was a user who tried to redirect to a main article but there was no such article in existence.¤~Persian Poet Gal (talk) 16:41, 12 December 2006 (UTC)

It's so good to see someone else who has the most vandalized pages in their watchlist as well! RFA?

Hey Persian Poet Gal, I have seen you everywhere and I think that you would be a great Phenomenal administrator! Cheers. — Seadog 23:21, 13 December 2006 (UTC)

  • Seadog that is immeasurably kind of you! Others have approached me about it and I am really honored however I think it would be best if we give it a few more months. I most graciously accept if the Wikipedia community feels that I would be eligible enough to be an admin but per some advice I recieved from Husond, he wanted to submit an RfA by January or February due to my becoming really active in the community since October of this year (even though I created this account in 2005). However if you or anyone else feels that they would like to nominate me, I will accept based on their beliefs in my abilities.¤~Persian Poet Gal (talk) 23:29, 13 December 2006 (UTC)

Edits and etc..

This IP address recently made some edits to the Benedict Arnold and Tiger articles, which were renounced as vandalism. I don't know if you can do anything about this, or if I'm even doing this the wrong way, but I just want you to know that this particular IP address belongs to the George West Independent School district, so it's public and any of the students could be editing articles, so you might want to block this IP from editing articles, anyway.

Thanks.

  • I am not an administrator, so I am not the one to come to enact a block. However it is very good that you brought that your IP is a shared one. I will try to help by tagging your IP talk page with the "This is a School IP" tag. That should assist administrators when they are examining suspicious edits by your IP address.¤~Persian Poet Gal (talk) 17:37, 15 December 2006 (UTC)

Hi - just got your message about deleting the Sandlot Games posting. I tried to follow BigFish Games format to ensure that it wasn't like an advertisement.

Can you tell me what I could remove to get the entry posted?

Thanks, Julia

julia@sandlotgames.com—Preceding unsigned comment added by Juliachill13 (talkcontribs)

  • Hello Julia, that article that you were using as reference itself requires some recalibration and cleanup, I have tagged that article with a cleanup tag after you alerted me to it (also check the talk page which discusses Neutral Point of View concerns: Talk:Big Fish Games. As far as your own article it strikes as blatant advertising because it mainly consists of external links to your companies games rather than sufficient content. Also the wordage strikes as very much as a point-of-view, Wikipedia is a Neutral Point of View encyclopedia, meaning that passages like "Sandlot Games boasts a captivating portfolio..." indicate language that is not neutral enough. Please consider taking out the bulk of the links in the article and write content which describes the company without point-of-view adages. Your RfA

Hello again Persian Poet Gal. As you can see here, I've listed you on my subpage about RfAs. I was wondering if you would be interested in attempting an RfA in the beginning of February 2007, possibly the 1st of Feb. You are such a prodigal user and I see your name all the time, I can't avoid feeling eager for the adminship that you most deserve. :-) Best regards.--Húsönd 22:34, 15 December 2006 (UTC)

  • Your huge confidence in my abilities truly humbles me Husond. As long as you agree that we give it some time, seeing as Seadog approached me yesterday about the matter, I am receptive to accepting a nomination by February as you have suggested now and in the past. Warnings

How do you give a warning to someone who appears to be vandalising a page? I wish to know because I may have a problematic situation.

From Andrew Winston 00:39, 16 December 2006 (UTC)

  • Look on my user page at the section which is marked "How-To" Guide to Wikipedia and scroll down to the "what to do if you see vandalism" question. It gives you all the details you need to know ;) (do not forget to click the link about how to revert, its wikified directly to the page).¤~Persian Poet Gal (talk) 00:42, 16 December 2006 (UTC)

Persian Poet Gal, If in an article people's names are mentioned, does the author need to seek permission if they do not want their names on the page? Andrew Winston 01:09, 16 December 2006 (UTC)

  • Hmmm I don't quite understand your question. If a person mentioned in the article does not want their name included in its content I guess they could request this on the article talk page. Could you elaborate your question more please?¤~Persian Poet Gal (talk) 01:11, 16 December 2006 (UTC)

What I meant if the person did not want their name on the article and it remains could it be construed as a form of vandalism?Andrew Winston 01:42, 16 December 2006 (UTC)

  • If the name was added as an inappropriate edit anyone can revert the edit or remove the name. As far as a name being included unwantingly in an article it is not considered a vandalism issue but something else entirely. The person would have to go through other measures such as requesting on Talk pages or more seriously from the Wikipedia corporation I guess.¤~Persian Poet Gal (talk) 01:55, 16 December 2006 (UTC)

Ok thanks. I just had a small issue with a page, and I think i'll be able to manage it. If I cannot, I will contact you again.Concerned Dude 02:00, 16 December 2006 (UTC)

Hello once again, Sorry to come back, but I have one more question to ask. If a user uses someone's name and it seems like they are personally attacking them, what can you do? If you can do something, are there any specific people who might be able to help? Andrew Winston 02:13, 16 December 2006 (UTC)

  • You can issue them a personal attack warning, such as: {{subst:npa}} {{subst:npa2}} {{subst:npa3}} {{subst:npa4}}. However in this case, after looking at the user page of the user whom you contacted, I see how it derives some personal attacks on yourself. I strongly recommend in this case that you contact an administrator (admin Can't sleep, clown will eat me is on at the moment) and politely specify how the user is personally attacking you on their userpage. The admin could delete the page if a block is not exactly the best way to handle it.¤~Persian Poet Gal (talk) 02:22, 16 December 2006 (UTC)

Do I need to tell you who the person is? Or do you already know? and does user:andrew winston attack anyone?Andrew Winston 02:39, 16 December 2006 (UTC)

Uh, i'm a little confused, I can't see anywhere on clown will eat me's page where i can make a complaint!

Thank you very much. I have spoken to him and am waiting a reply.Andrew Winston 02:51, 16 December 2006 (UTC)
