Highest mountains in Tas

- Please could you help - the article needs a table (which if you cannot i can do) which goes - name - height - note - to show where alternate names - see my last night addition of the names from the 1956 walchs almanac - i thought something was fishy when i was putting the old 10 in and couldnt see them in the new list - any help would be appreciated SatuSuro 00:09, 29 February 2008 (UTC)

- Geoscience oz database does not seem to have alternate names - at least at http://www.ga.gov.au/bin/gazd01?rec=208533 - anything to clear things up would be appreciated SatuSuro 00:11, 29 February 2008 (UTC)

Pelion Gap

Tips

- some suggestions - try accessing the state reference library catalogue - try finding a copy of old tasmanian tramp magazines - these may well have historical and useful old info - have a look at the frenchmans cap article - there is the info out there - and most other tassie mountain arts can stand alone because they are geo features and that is sufficient for notability - there is always info out there - buy a copy of the tasmap (or what ever they call themselves today) for the area - things as simple as - * WHAt or any rivers have their source adjacent to the mountain (or gap) - * what are the mountains closest to the sout, west, north etc - * Is there a named range in view? - * what ecological zone is it in - * what is the predominant vegetation on its slopes - * what geological era was the mountain formed - * what known birds/mammals are known to inhabit the slopes? - *does the tasmap or any maps identify or name features close by - * where is the nearest known weather station (bom web page has info) - * have there been any known issues - death of climbers/lost climbers - * are there any rock climbing areas on the slopes - * are there any rock falls known in the area - * are there any particular flowers that are obvious - do you know the plant - * if it is a gap- - which orienttion is it - does it provide a gully wind aspect to the prevailing weather or is it a sheletering gap? - * if it is a gap - - where are the known recent tracks, old tracks no longer used? - * does it star in either walk to the west or explorers of the west coast? - * did piguenit paint anything nearby or of it? - * are there geological features worth mentioning? - * is there a fire history of the area - cheers SatuSuro 03:29, 27 April 2008 (UTC)

- Please your photos and personal experience is nothing short of brilliant and I too have been completely taken up with enthusiasm about (west coast) mountains from 20 years ago (or is it now 30) and have heaps of photos i havent been able to put on as yet - I would suggest - a- put up info about access (OK anecdotal but if you have a tasmap you have a perfect backup) - b- simple info like the adjacent rivers/ranges other mountains - on all the articles you have done - and that would be a really good way to go - hey my sincerest apologies - dont let me put you off - you have done great stuff - we just gotta be ready if we ever get intruded upon by fierce outsiders who might try tricks of legalistic approaches to notability etc - a tasmap ref is perfect insurance btw SatuSuro 12:18, 27 April 2008 (UTC) - - Thanks for pointing out the frenchmans issue - we do have a problem within the mountain articles that yes climbing info did get into frenchmans - it can be written in a different way - the warning can be made by making a references to tas national parks advice - not us! what we do is find the appropriate article on the nat parks website that might have warnngs - and simply refer do a link to that and avoid saying it in our arts - will try to do that sometime - unless you would like to try - it then gets us clear of the problem - good point to have made - I have not gone back into frenchmans details for a while - thansk for reminding me SatuSuro 12:22, 27 April 2008 (UTC) -

SatuSuro 02:56, 30 April 2008 (UTC) - Excellent - hey we are on track to a really great set of arts - well done - we might consider starting an article on Tasmap and a few other items - let me know if you are interested - thanks for your effort! cheers SatuSuro 00:33, 2 May 2008 (UTC) - - For us to create an article about the tasmap series - the authority - in other words something that can get linked in to all the articles when it is referred to - that explains what tasmap is and the products basically - i'll try to find an example and give an idea here in a second or two - there are probably still some article cleanups and heaps of extra linking we can do but hey the standard of photos and the mode of info is a great direction to go!
