A note from Her Pegship

Please note: My stub sorting activities may be sporadic, and I tend to stick to just a few acres of the vast Wikipedia empire, so if I seem oblivious to customs in other areas, please excuse me and feel free to educate me. (Kindly.) I do check in at least once a day, so feel free to leave me a message here, in an edit summary, or on the WPSS or talk pages.

The article Death on the Nile (2004 film) has been proposed for deletion. The proposed deletion notice added to the article should explain why.

While all constructive contributions to Wikipedia are appreciated, pages may be deleted for any of several reasons.

You may prevent the proposed deletion by removing the {{proposed deletion/dated}} notice, but please explain why in your edit summary or on the article's talk page.

Please consider improving the page to address the issues raised. Removing {{proposed deletion/dated}} will stop the proposed deletion process, but other deletion processes exist. In particular, the speedy deletion process can result in deletion without discussion, and articles for deletion allows discussion to reach consensus for deletion.

@Pegship: Information icon Hello, this is GUtt01 here, and I like to inform you that your recent edits to Death on the Nile (2004 film) were reverted for a number of reasons. The chief reason among them, is that you did not give a valid reason for removing the templates, and did not improve the article at all as requested; you failed to give any citations whatsoever, regardless of the reference you believed was correct. The reason this article was proposed for deletion is that this adaptation of the novel by Agatha Christie contains little difference between it and the original, other than a few minor changes. The article covering the original story has sufficient coverage of the televised adaptation, so there is no need to create a separate article for it; for the film version of the 70s, I have no objection to a separate page, yet I have seen no one making pages for other televised adaptations made for ITV's Poirot series. UCSF project

[edit]

Hi! I am currently revamping the UCSF project. I created lots of pages and added a lot of content, but there is so much still to do. I saw that you are part of the SFBA task force, so I thought you might be interested and I wanted to invite you to collaborate once more. In particular, we need to add content, do maintenance, and we really would benefit from pictures, so if you are in SF and could help that would be great. Thanks!Eccekevin (talk) 15:11, 26 July 2017 (UTC)[reply]

Hello, Pegship/Jun18May19! New or spoiled stub templates

[edit]

Hi Pegship, I noticed that you are fixing some of Category:Stub message templates needing attention. It might be worth you keeping an eye on that category, as I found some old nonsense in it today, e.g. [1].

I noticed that Category:Ghana library stubs was empty, and tagged it for speedy deletion. It was created at the same time as Template:Ghana-library-stub; I tried using that as an intersection template, but only found two library pages in Category:Ghana geography stubs. Is it better to leave it or delete it? It was unused before I found it, so Id be happy to revert the two pages where I used it, and give them two stub templates instead. – Fayenatic London 11:21, 21 September 2018 (UTC)[reply]

I found some weird cases where stub templates were not displaying properly, because they had some invisible characters, namely non-breaking spaces: [2].
Thought it would be useful to tell you in case you come across any similar cases where a template does not display properly. – Fayenatic London 13:40, 21 September 2018 (UTC)[reply]

Stubs

[edit]

Hi. I couldn't find where the guidance is, but what is the policy about classifying stubs in normal categories in addition to the sub-stub-category. Specifically, Category:Legal terminology stubs contains 120 pages that are also in Category:Legal terminology - given that the former is a sub-category of the latter, stubs should only be in the dedicated stub category, right? --DannyS712 (talk) 00:35, 27 February 2019 (UTC)[reply]

Hi there! The stub tag is just a flag that an article needs work/improvement; the stub category (Category:Legal terminology stubs) collects those tagged articles in one place but does not supersede the permanent category (Category:Legal terminology). The stub tag can be added or removed without changing or having to add back the perm cat. This also helps the casual user to find an article without trying to figure out what a stub category is. Does this make sense? Her Pegship (speak) 17:43, 27 February 2019 (UTC)[reply]
@Pegship: Yeah, thanks --DannyS712 (talk) 20:36, 27 February 2019 (UTC)[reply]

April 2019

[edit]

Information icon Hello and welcome to Wikipedia. When you add content to talk pages and Wikipedia pages that have open discussion (but never when editing articles), such as at Wikipedia:WikiProject Stub sorting/Proposals/2019/March, please be sure to sign your posts. There are two ways to do this. Either:

  1. Add four tildes ( ~~~~ ) at the end of your comment, or
  2. With the cursor positioned at the end of your comment, click on the signature button located above the edit window.

This will automatically insert a signature with your username or IP address and the time you posted the comment. This information is necessary to allow other editors to easily see who wrote what and when.

Thank you. --Jax 0677 (talk) 15:01, 15 April 2019 (UTC)[reply]

@Jax 0677: Thanks for the canned welcome message (14 years late). Would you mind showing me which edit of mine did not contain my signature? I perused Wikipedia:WikiProject Stub sorting/Proposals/2019/March and did not see evidence that I omitted it. Thanks. Her Pegship (speak) 16:15, 15 April 2019 (UTC)[reply]
@Jax 0677: I presume that's the standard in other WP venues. This is the first I have heard of it, as I tend to stay in my own corner of WP, and WPSS has not required it on closing templates for as long as I've been here. I will try to remember it in future. April and May stubs

[edit]

Hi, I see that you deleted the unused Wikipedia:WikiProject Stub sorting/Proposals/2019/April and then created Wikipedia:WikiProject Stub sorting/Proposals/2019/May which differed in one word - you could simply have moved the first to the second without leaving a redirect. --Redrose64 🌹 (talk) 19:53, 1 May 2019 (UTC)[reply]

@Redrose64:Does the deletion of Wikipedia:WikiProject Stub sorting/Proposals/2019/April cause any problems? Her Pegship (speak) 19:55, 1 May 2019 (UTC)[reply]
No; but if you had moved the page, the May one would have automatically been added to my watchlist. --Redrose64 🌹 (talk) 20:06, 1 May 2019 (UTC)[reply]
Ah, I get it. Next time. Her Pegship (speak) 21:01, 1 May 2019 (UTC)[reply]

Administrator account security (Correction to Arbcom 2019 special circular)

[edit]

ArbCom would like to apologise and correct our previous mass message in light of the response from the community.

Since November 2018, six administrator accounts have been compromised and temporarily desysopped. In an effort to help improve account security, our intention was to remind administrators of existing policies on account security — that they are required to "have strong passwords and follow appropriate personal security practices." We have updated our procedures to ensure that we enforce these policies more strictly in the future. The policies themselves have not changed. In particular, two-factor authentication remains an optional means of adding extra security to your account. The choice not to enable 2FA will not be considered when deciding to restore sysop privileges to administrator accounts that were compromised.

We are sorry for the wording of our previous message, which did not accurately convey this, and deeply regret the tone in which it was delivered.

For the Arbitration Committee, -Cameron11598 21:04, 4 May 2019 (UTC)[reply]
