Managing a conflict of interest

[edit]

Information icon Hello, PegasusSM. We welcome your contributions, but if you have an external relationship with the people, places or things you have written about on the page John B. Richardson IV, you may have a conflict of interest (COI). Editors with a conflict of interest may be unduly influenced by their connection to the topic. See the conflict of interest guideline and FAQ for organizations for more information. We ask that you:

In addition, you are required by the Wikimedia Foundation's terms of use to disclose your employer, client, and affiliation with respect to any contribution which forms all or part of work for which you receive, or expect to receive, compensation. See Wikipedia:Paid-contribution disclosure.

Also, editing for the purpose of advertising, publicising, or promoting anyone or anything is not permitted. While reviewing the image you just added to Richardson's article, I found the source page at Fort Hood's PR website, which uses "Pegasus 6" to refer to Richardson. This suggests that you have some connection to Richardson or his command. Be advised that if you are part of the PR team or otherwise paid or ordered to edit Richardson's page, you are a paid editor and must make the required disclosures for paid editors. Remember that Wikipedia is an encyclopedia and not a PR outlet; content in the encyclopedia is not under the control of Richardson or his staff and can be edited by any editor, especially to ensure compliance with Wikipedia policies and the Manual of Style.C.Fred (talk) 16:18, 22 January 2022 (UTC)[reply]

I am in the Army too and on fort hood. no personal connection. is that still COI PegasusSM (talk) 16:43, 22 January 2022 (UTC)[reply]

Yes. If you're in a PR position, you're a paid editor. If you are not in PR or media affairs, but just a "regular" soldier at the fort, there's still a conflict of interest, although it's milder. —C.Fred (talk) 23:43, 22 January 2022 (UTC)[reply]
