Re: Newbie Question

Ack, I got caught. :) Yes, we generally do try to give people a few warnings before blocking. You can find a pretty expansive list of warnings at WP:WARN, and a list of general templates at WP:TEMP. In general, a warning would be something like {{subst:test1}} ~~~~ -- try typing it out to see what you get. For all sorts of information on vandalism and how we deal with it, feel free to see Wikipedia:Vandalism, Help:Reverting, Wikipedia:Cleaning up vandalism, and perhaps the counter-vandalism unit. You can report persistent vandals at WP:AIV. There's also a fairly expansive counter-vandalism project on IRC, if you become interested. Thanks for your interest, and happy editing! Ah, I see. IP editors still have talk pages, such as this one -- you should be able to find a link either through page history, or while viewing diffs. It's a bit tricky if somebody has a dynamic IP address, since they may chance to a new IP today, tomorrow, or in the case of AOL, maybe even the next time they load a page; but at least in the short term, maybe a few hours or so, you can usually keep up a brief conversation. Looks good. :) Biggest advice is remember to assume good faith (often people are just confused or experimenting). Good luck! Luna Santin 23:13, 9 November 2006 (UTC)[reply]
