Welcome!

[edit]

Hello, PaulColemanUSA, and welcome to Wikipedia! Thank you for your contributions.

I noticed that one of the first articles you created or edited was Paul Coleman (sailor), which appears to be an article about yourself. Creating an autobiography is a common mistake made by new Wikipedians—as this is an encyclopedia, we wouldn't expect to have an article about every contributor. Your user page, however, is a great place to write about yourself, making sure to stay within user page guidelines. Just click your user name at the top of the screen when you are logged in, and edit it normally.

The page you created about yourself may well be deleted from the encyclopedia. If it is deleted and you wish to retrieve its contents, don't hesitate to ask anyone from this list and they will copy it to your user page. If your contributions to an existing article about yourself are undone and you wish to add to it, please propose the changes on its talk page.

Here are some pages that you might find helpful:

I hope you enjoy editing here and being a Wikipedian! Please sign your messages on talk pages using four tildes (~~~~); this will automatically insert your username and the date. If you need help, check out Wikipedia:Questions, ask me on my talk page, or ask your question on this page and then place {{help me}} before the question. Again, welcome! Information icon Hello, PaulColemanUSA, welcome to Wikipedia and thank you for your contributions. Your editing pattern indicates that you may be using multiple accounts or coordinating editing with people outside Wikipedia, such as PeterColemanUSA (talk · contribs). Our policy on multiple accounts usually does not allow this, and users who use multiple accounts may be blocked from editing. If you operate multiple accounts directly or with the help of another person, please disclose these connections. Thank you. Cabayi (talk) 13:26, 21 June 2017 (UTC)[reply]

Copying within Wikipedia

[edit]

Information icon Thank you for your contributions to Wikipedia. It appears that you copied or moved text from Peter Coleman (sailor) into Paul Coleman (sailor). While you are welcome to re-use Wikipedia's content, here or elsewhere, Wikipedia's licensing does require that you provide attribution to the original contributor(s). When copying within Wikipedia, this is supplied at minimum in an edit summary at the page into which you've copied content, disclosing the copying and linking to the copied page, e.g., copied content from [[page name]]; see that page's history for attribution. It is good practice, especially if copying is extensive, to also place a properly formatted {{copied}} template on the talk pages of the source and destination. The attribution has been provided for this situation, but if you have copied material between pages before, even if it was a long time ago, please provide attribution for that duplication. You can read more about the procedure and the reasons at Wikipedia:Copying within Wikipedia. Thank you. Cordless Larry (talk) 08:01, 22 June 2017 (UTC)[reply]

[edit]

Information icon Hello. Thank you for your contributions to Wikipedia. I noticed that a recent edit of yours to the page Paul Coleman (sailor) has an edit summary that appears to be inaccurate or inappropriate. The summaries are helpful to people browsing an article's history, so it is important that you use edit summaries that accurately tell other editors what you did. Feel free to use the sandbox to make test edits. Thank you. Cordless Larry (talk) 14:55, 22 June 2017 (UTC)[reply]

Usernames

[edit]

Please note that the general policy on Wikipedia is "one user, one username". (See WP:USERNAMES) It appears highly likely that you are editing using both this account and User:PeterColemanUSA. This is not allowed unless the two usernames are clearly and unambiguously marked as being connected. This can be done by placing a statement on the user pages of both the accounts. By not doing so, you risk being blocked from editing by an administrator.

Also, Wikipedia is a co-operative project and relies on its editors to communicate with each other. A number of editors have attempted to explain some things to you, and you have not responded. This, too, is not acceptable. Communication between editors is the lifeblood of this project, and, again, you can be blocked from editing if you continue to ignore the comments of other editors.

No one is trying to make things difficult for you, but with such a huge project, there are rules that must be followed to prevent us from descending into chaos. Please make an effort to follow those rules. Thanks. Beyond My Ken (talk) 15:59, 22 June 2017 (UTC)[reply]
