List of countries by sovereign wealth funds not needed

Hi Patrick you are correct all the information are avilable on Sovereign wealth fund page...but the list is incomplete there are nearly 50-60 Soverign wealth funds currently...i will try to compile all data by this weekend on the new page and keep only the Top 10 fund list on the current Sovereign wealth fund page just like the Foreign exchange reserves page and List of countries by foreign exchange reserves-- User:Praddy06 03:32, 6 May 2008 (UTC)

Template:World Trade Organization (WTO)

WOW. I am so so sorry. I am usually very good at checking "what links here" but I must've gotten distracted (I do a good chunk of my WP stuff from work). I restored it for now. I can help you rem the template from the pages if you'd like. Again. I apologize. --WoohookittyWoohoo! 01:12, 22 June 2008 (UTC)

If you'd like to take it up at WP:DRV, I'd have no problem with that. Honestly, I tend to think it's not needed and the consensus was that it wasn't needed. But if you think it's useful, I'd recommend going to DRV. I won't give any statements or anything on it. --WoohookittyWoohoo! 07:16, 23 June 2008 (UTC)

Merging Nationals all time and expos list

Thank you for your message regarding my merging of the Montreal Expos all-time roster with the Washington Nationals all-time roster. I am a little confused, though, because the post you directed me to seems to share my opinion and doesn't contradict my reason for having a single all-time roster page.

I don't understand why you say there is no reason to have a page that includes the roster of the entire franchise history. There is not one example that show otherwise.

Precedent

I can go on. However, despite the examples, I am not even suggesting removing the Expos all-time roster as its own page, only creating a roster that reflects the entire franchise. This way, one can view just those players who players for the Expos and we can have a page that shows players who played anytime for the franchise, like every other current MLB team all-time roster page. I am also not suggesting merging any other Expos page to a corresponding Nationals page, as others have suggested.

While you say there is no reason to mix the two, you have provided no reason why there shouldn't be a page that does. --Wolfer68 (talk) 06:37, 30 June 2008 (UTC)

Astros Article is in bad shape

Patrick I do not agree with Anna restoring what I deleted, however I am willing to work on it. The Article has become a "fan" page not an informative piece. I would like it to look more like the Yankees article with era's or decades NOT year by year break downs! There is a lot of junk in the article from a fan point of view. I am going to start rewriting and giving it a better look. I can't do this when some kid (anna) goes back and puts the garbage back. How can I work around this? —Preceding unsigned comment added by Mickeyp2814 (talkcontribs) 17:20, 1 July 2008 (UTC)

Norwegian heavy water sabotage

I believe that you recently drew attention to the need for a citation for the claim that it was the most important operation carried out by SOE. The source is a well-informed one. It is M R D Foot, in "The Special Operations Executive 1940-1946" ISBN 0563201932. I don't know how to add that to the article as reference, do you? Mark126 (talk) 08:09, 14 July 2008 (UTC)

Euro entry on Forex reserves

I dont understand ? Can Germany access the UK's forex reserves ?? Can Italy bail out France ? Why do we need that entry there. I am invariant under co-ordinate transformations (talk) 02:49, 18 July 2008 (UTC)

Well, I think it's a useful stat to have there. Plus, many other pages do the same thing, provide the EU stats without ranking them. See List of countries by GDP (nominal). Now to answer your question, nobody really knows and it's a bit of a moot point. If a country need a supply of foreign reserves to satisfy their trade issues, it's quite conceivable that the EU will step in and tell a the other eurozone members to give the problem country the money. But anyways, I feel that it should be kept since it doesn't take away anything from the article and actually add some info to the article. Cheers --PatrickFlaherty (talk) 03:00, 18 July 2008 (UTC)
Okay, I think on the area and population tables, the entry is there for comparisons, although I have been a proponent of adding the African Union there too. But I hope you can see how the entry on the forex reserve page can cause confusion. I dont know much about how the EU works but can the EU really tell other members to give a country money ? Maybe we need a footnote or something.I am invariant under co-ordinate transformations (talk) 22:57, 18 July 2008 (UTC)
I don't really see how it could confuse somebody since it's not in the rankings. Like I said before, I think it's a useful comparison to make. Maybe we should discuss this on the talk page and see what other people think. User:Elk Salmon also reverted one of your edits. In regards to your question, yes, no, and maybe. I've been trying to think of a good example of the current situation the EU has set up which isn't really policy, more of a general idea of what might happen if something like this could ever happen, which most likely, will never actually occur. The example i came up with is this, if a country is going to default, then immediately the ECB will step in and become involved. They will probably use the ECB reserve, but if more is needed then they will go to other eurozone nations to get the money. I'm sure there a paper out there that talks about the eu reserves, I'll look for it tomorrow. Cheers --PatrickFlaherty (talk) 04:34, 19 July 2008 (UTC)

I've responded there. Leonard(Bloom) 06:37, 30 July 2008 (UTC)

Hi, Patrick. Well done with your recent work on Doha! OK, I agree with minimising external links and keeping them strictly on-topic. The regularly-updated useful info and views from think-tanks and NGOs are very useful to me (often more so than the reports of journalists many of whom don't spend much of their lives on these issues). I see, though, that they are well listed in the WTO article and hope that they they will remain there. Cheers Bjenks (talk) 01:46, 1 August 2008 (UTC)

Thanks so much. Thank you also for the work you have done. I did notice that many of the same links were on the WTO page, so that's why I chose to get rid of the general ones. Thanks again for your improvements and I'm sure for future improvements that you will make to the page. --Patrick (talk) 01:51, 1 August 2008 (UTC)

Patrick, I noticed at WP:1FA that you're planning to make Doha Development Round your first FA. I'm keenly interested in this topic and I've been around the FA merry-go-round a few times, so if you have any questions along the way, let me know. (I can't get too involved along the way, but I'm happy to answer questions and do a final copyedit before it goes to FAC.) Thanks to everyone who participated in my RfA, regardless of their !vote. I have withdrawn the nomination as a failure at 19 supports, 45 opposes, and 9 neutral statements.

As has been written and sung, you can't always get what you want, but if you try sometimes, you get what you need — and what I need is to go back to working on our shared project. Not everyone has to be an admin; there is a role for each of us. After reflection, I feel I don't have the temperament to secure community consensus as an admin at any point, and I will not be applying again in the future — and hey, that's all right, 'cause I stay true to the philosophy that adminship is no big deal: I tried, I failed, and now I'll return to doing what I've always done. I have an extremely strong belief in the consensus process, and the consensus was clear. I will be devoting my energies to volunteering at MedCab and working up a complete series of articles on the short stories of Ernest Hemingway, among lord knows what else. Thanks again to everyone who spared the time to weigh in on this one. It was made in better faith than it probably seemed.

How did my edit qualify as "vandalism"? - According to Wikipedia's own rules, "vandalism includes the addition of obscenities or crude humor, page blanking, or the insertion of nonsense into articles. Any good-faith effort to improve the encyclopedia, even if misguided or ill-considered, is not vandalism" How was my desire to add factual information that the footballer is writing and posting blogs equal vandalism? Economics!

Hello, thank you for sending me the welcome.

I am an Economics student interested in UK Economics and I was wondering how your importance assesment works, I've just done a bit of Edditing on Monetary Policy Committee and it's members and plan to imrove all their articles over the next few weeks but I don't know what importance level to tag them as, is there a page with this info on it? WP:ECON/A favor

If you find the time, could you take a minute to form an opinion about the importance of Hicksian demand function to WP:ECON, and weigh in on the discussion? So far this one article is in dispute, and I'd like to start building consensus around the importance criteria. Thanks, I appreciate it. -FrankTobia (talk) 20:44, 16 August 2008 (UTC)

Adam Smith

Thanks! This gave me a laugh, which is sorely needed. I've just about lost my cool again. I don't know for sure if this counts as disruptive editing, but it's very successful at pushing my buttons. Anyway, the laugh helped and will keep my going another day or so before I have to take a wikibreak.Cretog8 (talk) 04:34, 17 August 2008 (UTC)

No worries. I think it has basically reached the point of disruptive editing and attacking fellow editors. I mean, he called me a libertarian and that's just plan insulting, I'm a conservative libertarian. I'm going to write him a statement that says if he doesn't cut it out, then I'm going to have take it to ANI. He has violated the policy since he does go revert several times a day on successive days. --Patrick (talk) 04:47, 17 August 2008 (UTC)
It is a content dispute because of poorly phrased material. That is all it is. Finally.. this is a term used to break down a certain style of writing that has no place when trying to explain a subject : Weasel words are small phrases attached to the beginning of a statement, such as "some argue that..." or "critics say...", etc.. A serious problem with weasel-worded statements, aside from their veracity, is that their implication is misleading or too vague to substantiate. One problem with weasel words is that they can imply a statement is true when it may be no truer than its inverse. For example, an editor might preface the statement "Montreal is the best city in the world" with a disclaimer: "some people say that Montreal is the best city in the world". This is true: some people do say that Montreal is the best city in the world. The problem is that the reverse is true as well (some people say Montreal is not the best city in the world, and some go further and say that it is the worst), and it is thus easy to write a misinformed, slanted article composed of nothing but 'facts' like these, using media to spread hearsay, personal opinion and propaganda. All it takes is for somebody to add "Critics have asserted that..." to a statement, and there is a danger that the casual reader will take their word for it.

It might be a good idea to drop the sentence in question or rephrase it completely because as of now it does not make a lot of sense. skip sievert (talk) 15:57, 17 August 2008 (UTC)

Whaoh, careful. I know Skip is being unreasonable, but I don't want to see you get tagged for a three revert rule violation in the process. This is getting out of hand, and I think I might request mediation or assistance or something similar. In the future it's better to just revert twice, since myself and others will be around to check up on the status of any unresolved revert war. Hang in there. -FrankTobia (talk) 16:32, 18 August 2008 (UTC)

Concerns about deletions

I am concerned about your recent deletions of my entries, especially to the Howard Kippenberger entry. I have posted academically recognised authoratative material on these entries which Wikipedia users searching in this area will find valuable. I find it disheartening and disturbing that this can be done without any dialogue. I also found the blocking threat most unhelpful and somewhat high-handed. I would appreciate a response. Assistance

I was wondering if you would be able to join the discussion over at FairTax. This has become too difficult to address by disputed parties and the introduction of a first time moderator has recently made it worse. It looks like we may be heading to an arbitration, but we just need more people in the discussion. This article is seriously wearing me out. Most of the discussion is not really about content, it's more about policy and the basis for including and excluding content. Debates over WP:FRINGE, WP:V, and WP:NPOV. Friedman radical

Hello--That sentence I gave was just an example. I know it's true (for instance, abolishing the FDA is one such proposal) but yep sources would be necessary. On the other hand, "have been considered radical" is watering it down too much. And I'm sure there's other places in the article where similar minor additions would make the point. Anyway, it's not a huge concern to me at the moment, I just thought I'd put my 2 cents in. I'll consider looking up refs for that sometime. CRETOG8(t/c) 05:57, 22 August 2008 (UTC)

I really wish we could call him a crazy radical. Too bad there wasn't wikipedia back in the day, I would have loved to whack his theories with a big old fringe theory sticker. I'm not sure why I'm even paying attention to the discussion. For most of life, I've tried to avoid Friedman like the plague, yet somehow I actually suggested watering down the term radical for him. --Patrick (talk) 06:02, 22 August 2008 (UTC)

Doha

That totally fine with me. I just figured maybe somewhere in the article it should mention Doha since it's mentioned in the GATT/WTO "rounds" box. Do you think it just looks a little odd if it’s in that box and Doha isn't talked about in the article?. Maybe only talking about/listing the GATT rounds and leaving out the WTO ones or maybe making a section after “Uruguay rounds” and calling it something like “Rounds after GATT” I don't know a vast amount of info on the topic, so if you're more knowledgeable on topic w/e direction of the article is fine with me :). Hi, Patrick. Please explain which NPOV text I have inappropriately changed. I have myself been tempted to remove a great deal of existing POV stuff which lacks any substantiation. Is it my removal of the phony "terrorism" nonsense, or are you objecting to my describing the round as 'unproductive' when it has in obvious fact been "as dead as a Doha" for quite a few years now. In any case, most of my edits were orthographical and for consistency, eg U.S. to US or USA if a noun. Cheers Bjenks (talk) 12:29, 15 January 2009 (UTC)

Hello, this is a message from an automated bot. A tag has been placed on Category:Unassessed-priority WikiProject Business articles, by another Wikipedia user, requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. The tag claims that it should be speedily deleted because Category:Unassessed-priority WikiProject Business articles has been empty for at least four days, and its only content has been links to parent categories. (CSD C1).

To contest the tagging and request that administrators wait before possibly deleting Category:Unassessed-priority WikiProject Business articles, please affix the template {{hangon}} to the page, and put a note on its talk page. If the article has already been deleted, see the advice and instructions at WP:WMD. Feel free to contact the bot operator if you have any questions about this or any problems with this bot, bearing in mind that this bot is only informing you of the nomination for speedy deletion; it does not perform any nominations or deletions itself. The article Kenya Vision 2030 has been proposed for deletion because of the following concern:

Refs are broken, so no evidence of notability. The standards are higher for WP:CRYSTALBALLs

While all contributions to Wikipedia are appreciated, content or articles may be deleted for any of several reasons.

You may prevent the proposed deletion by removing the {{dated prod}} notice, but please explain why in your edit summary or on the article's talk page.

Please consider improving the article to address the issues raised. Removing {{dated prod}} will stop the proposed deletion process, but other deletion processes exist. The speedy deletion process can result in deletion without discussion, and articles for deletion allows discussion to reach consensus for deletion. :| TelCoNaSpVe :| 18:05, 4 September 2010 (UTC)

the Public Policy Initiative Assessment Team wants You!

Hi PatrickFlaherty, I saw some of your contributions on an article that falls within the scope of Wikiproject: United States Public Policy, your expertise in economics and trade policy would be very valuable to the project, and I was hoping you would be interested in assessing articles with the Public Policy Initiative. There is more info about assessment on the 9/13/2010 Signpost. If you're interested or just curious you can sign up on the project page or just contact me. Thanks! Added template for SuggestBot

Hi,

Thanks for being one of SuggestBot's users! I hope you have found the bot's suggestions useful.

We are in the process of switching from our previous list-based signup process to using templates and userboxes, and I have therefore added the appropriate template to your user talk page. You should receive the first set of suggestions within a day, and since we'll be automating SuggestBot you will from then on continue to receive them regularly at the desired frequency.

We now also have a userbox that you can use to let others know you're using SuggestBot, and if you don't want to clutter your user talk page the bot can post to a sub-page in your userspace. More information about the userbox and usage of the template is available on User:SuggestBot/Getting Recommendations Regularly.

If there are any questions, please don't hesitate to get in touch with me on my user talk page. Thanks again, Nettrom (talk) 20:39, 17 February 2011 (UTC)

Greetings. I noticed that you are one of the members of WikiProject United States Government that are still active so I wanted to ask you a question. It appears that this project is mostly inactive aside from what the members might be doing independently. I was considering suggesting that this project be pulled in under WikiProject United States and wanted to solicit comments from some of this projects members before doing so. As with Washington DC and the others the project would for the most part maintain its own independence but I believe this would benefit both projects. What do you think about this? --Kumioko (talk) 23:37, 24 March 2011 (UTC)

US National Archives collaboration

United States National Archives WikiProject
Would you like to help improve Wikipedia's coverage of topics related to the National Archives and its incredible collection? This summer, the National Archives—which houses some of America's most important historical documents—is hosting me as its Wikipedian in Residence, and I have created WP:NARA to launch these efforts.

There are all sorts of tasks available for any type of editor, whether you're a writer, organizer, gnome, coder, or image guru. The National Archives is making its resources available to Wikipedia, so help us forge this important relationship! Please sign up and introduce yourself. Dominic·t 15:22, 22 June 2011 (UTC)
