Information icon Hello, I'm SQGibbon. I wanted to let you know that I removed one or more external links you added to the page Arnold Schoenberg, because they seemed to be inappropriate for an encyclopedia. If you think I made a mistake, or if you have any questions, you can leave me a message on my talk page, or take a look at our guidelines about links. Thank you. Tone row database

[edit]

Hello Paramelin,

If you'll notice I left the link in the Twelve-tone technique article as it might be appropriate there. With the articles for Schoenberg and Webern those are biographies and not the place for in depth discussions of their techniques. But even if we were to include in the external links section links to sites that do discuss their specific techniques at length, your site does not appear to do so. It does talk about tone rows in general but not specifically about how Schoenberg and Webern used them (like in specific works).

But that's just the beginning of the problems here. Whenever a new editor starts adding the same exact content (in this case an external link) to multiple articles it raises a red flag, a concern that spamming (click to read the Wikipedia policy on that) is occurring. Further, it often happens that there is a conflict of interest where someone closely involved is linking to their own content (another policy violation). And then there is also the question of whether the site is a reliable source by Wikipedia's standards. I didn't spend a lot of time looking through every link on the site but I did not see anything listing the qualifications of the authors of the site.

Taking all this together then there are problems. Narrowing the scope of where you add this link will help (notice that another editor agreed with my reasoning on this), establishing that the site is a reliable source and disclosing any connections you have with the site should be your next steps if you think this information belongs on Wikipedia. Information icon Hello and welcome to Wikipedia. When you add content to talk pages and Wikipedia pages that have open discussion (but never when editing articles), please be sure to sign your posts. There are two ways to do this. Either:

  1. Add four tildes ( ~~~~ ) at the end of your comment; or
  2. With the cursor positioned at the end of your comment, click on the signature button ( or ) located above the edit window.

This will automatically insert a signature with your username or IP address and the time you posted the comment. This information is necessary to allow other editors to easily see who wrote what and when.

Thank you. --SineBot (talk) 19:32, 2 January 2015 (UTC)[reply]

There is a "New section" tab at the top of Hyacinth's talk page; that will add a new topic to the bottom of the page. It appears Hyacinth already saw your comment and replied; if you want to keep up an existing conversation, it's preferred to edit the same section (there should be an "edit" link in the headline) and not start a new one for the same topic.
