Hello, Ovoster, and welcome to Wikipedia! My name is Shalor and I work with the Wiki Education Foundation; I help support students who are editing as part of a class assignment.

I hope you enjoy editing here. If you haven't already done so, please check out the student training library, which introduces you to editing and Wikipedia's core principles. Sourcing

[edit]

Hi! I wanted to give you a bit of a head's up - I saw that earlier you used a WordPress blog as a source. Be extremely cautious with any self-published source, as most are not considered to be reliable sources per Wikipedia's guidelines. There are two major reasons for this:

  1. Self-published sources typically do not undergo the type of editorial oversight that Wikipedia requires, which essentially means that their work isn't verified by anyone prior to publication for any errors in content or doesn't go through a strong enough process.
  2. They are rarely routinely cited as an authoritative source in reliable sources like academic texts, books, or websites that are considered reliable sources on Wikipedia.

I don't really see where the Anarchytects blog undergoes the type of editorial oversight needed or where it's routinely cited as an authoritative source in other reliable sources. (If you can find evidence of either, that would be great.) Definitely be careful about these - they can trip you up. Shalor (Wiki Ed) (talk) 20:11, 8 March 2018 (UTC)[reply]

  • I have another note for you. You used this source from Forbes, however this is by one of their contributors, which is essentially a self-published blog. Forbes doesn't moderate or edit them aside from making sure that they don't violate any of the major terms and agreements (swearing, harassment, etc), so this isn't considered to be a reliable source on Wikipedia. This is one that honestly surprised me when I found out about it, so it's definitely something that I didn't expect you to know beforehand. Shalor (Wiki Ed) (talk) 20:28, 8 March 2018 (UTC)[reply]

Thank you for the feedback. Do I need to delete the information I have added? I will be more careful when looking for sources! Ovoster (talk) 19:11, 19 March 2018 (UTC)[reply]
