Arab people

Sorry if it seemed unconstructive. I was only concerned because merging a whole article with the primary one is a huge step without some discussion. I don't want to dominate the discussion though, so let's see how other editors respond to your questions. In the end, I hope it ends in a positive solution for all! The religion of his parents is irrelevant to him. Plus, you don't know the religion of his mother. You have made quite a mess of what was a settled section in the article. Please be careful. - Sitush (talk) 16:32, 17 June 2011 (UTC)

I hope there isn't a problem. The religion of the mother is in the cites, both 4 and 5, which you deleted and then I restored (after you had requested a cite to the parents' religion when you had deleted that information earlier, which was promptly provided within hours). The religion of his parents is relevant as it narrows his family's cultural heritage. For those of Lebanese descent such information is extremely important due to the country's rich cultural and religious heritage. Please explain more clearly the problem, as everything is verifiable, relevant and informative. Otherwise, please lighten your tone, it really is a bit unsettling! It is not relevant. The article is not about them. It has no bearing on his activities. What Lebanese people think about it is of no relevance if it is entirely tangential information. Now, if you could provide some evidence that Maronite Christianity caused him to adopt the business practices that he did, then you may have a point. But you cannot. Please remove it.

The information which I removed earlier said that he was a Maronite Christian, which is a totally different issue and one which you have not addressed. - Sitush (talk) 16:42, 17 June 2011 (UTC)

I don't want to get into a drawn out discussion as your tone is a bit unsettling but my last response is that; I didn't do anything about his religion, that has not been verified in any source I have read and listing that in such a situation would obviously be problematic for a biography of a living person. I made no changes for that, which I assume you had addressed earlier in your edits. His parents' religions, though, have been verified by a number of sources. I listed both Times (London) because it references the mother's religion as well "born of Lebanese Christian parents" and Time Magazine because it lists the specific rite of the father (Maronite Christian) because you had deleted the references and a previous cite for not clearly stating the religion of either. If we want to nitpick as to whether the mother is in fact Maronite Christian, that is one thing and that is something that can be edited to be more clear or we can try to see what other sources say about that. But to claim that the parents' religions are irrelevant can only be made by someone who knows nothing about Mexico, Lebanon, the Arab world or best practices in Wikipedia biographies of living persons. But I would to hear what other editors have to say so this does not become a one-sided thing. I have no right to dominate the discussion, just as you, so perhaps we should stick to what is verifiable and best practices in the rest of Wikipedia until other editors chime in. This has already been discussed at length in the talk page. The article does not exist to glorify Lebanese people. If they feel miffed by that then it is just tough. POV-pushing has no place on Wikipedia, nor does mis-stating what I said. I did not ask for a citation about the religion of his parents but rather one for his own religion. A quick look at the article talk page & history will show that it has been subject to a lot of discussion and not a little warring caused by Lebanese people seeking to attach status to their country via Slim's ancestry. Your edits do not help things in the slightest & show a distinct lack of appreciation for what has already gone on. You are fairly new, so that is to be expected, but it does not mean that you can adopt a "holier than thou" attitude, or light some blue touchpaper and expect to walk away from the explosion that results. - Sitush (talk) 16:56, 17 June 2011 (UTC)

User:Dr. Blofeld has created Wikipedia:WikiProject Africa/Contests. The idea is to run a series of contests/editathons focusing on each region of Africa. He has spoken to Wikimedia about it and $1000-1500 is possible for prize money. In the 2018 edition of the contest, about 600 Wikipedia articles were created in at least 8 languages. There were also contributions to Wikidata and Wikimedia commons, which brought the total number of wikimedia pages created during the contest to over 1,000.
