Why am I (MrPorpoise) mentioned on this page?

[edit]

I seem to be mentioned in a list, which I'm having some difficulty interpreting the meaning of as well. What's going on? MrPorpoise (talk) 01:19, 22 June 2024 (UTC)[reply]

@MrPorpoise: Please see User talk:Osomite#Just wondering why you added my editor data to one of your user pages. --Tryptofish (talk) 23:25, 22 June 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Mr Porpoise - There is nothing sinister or nefarious about me noting and saving your name and editor data link. I saved your user name to my "interesting editors" section a few years ago when I came upon an incident of concern about your previous user name. I wanted to be able to follow what was happening to you as various editors did comment. They created a "Singleporpoise" conspiracy theory out of whole cloth. I was just watching the social dynamics of how Wikipedia editors deal with a thing that is not a thing except in their imaginings. I'll remove your editor data. I apologize that I alarmed you. No worries. I was not scared at all, just very confused when there was no clear context. Sorry if my tone seemed harsh.
My side of the story with the username is that if I had not also commented on what was apparently a hot topic at around that same time, I probably wouldn't have had to change username at all. But some people surrounding that article were being very touchy and my username sort of struck a nerve with them. I don't even remember what exactly the article was about but what I do remember is what I thought was a fairly small objective edit to a political article was then interpreted as an attack on some person. With that experience in mind I've stopped using Wikipedia as a source for anything political at all, it opened my eyes to how there's a blatant double standard to political content here. So the small edits I still make are pretty much only on technical topics.
Making matters worse I'm using a VPN to access Wikipedia (long story but Sweden has some truly draconian data logging laws and my ISP is handing out free VPNs to fight back). A short while after the situation with my username that VPN was added to the list of blocked IP ranges. Coincidence or not I was then unable to edit on Wikipedia with my account at all and I sort of forgot about having an account for a while. Until I was pinged by your mention through email, actually. Evidently my VPN is now unblocked again.
Anyway, I thought you'd find some value in that story if you took an interest in the "Singleporpoise" conspiracy theory. Have a nice day! :) MrPorpoise (talk) 23:21, 24 June 2024 (UTC)[reply]

I, too, was mentioned. I read the above but I still don't understand. Can you please explain "WTF?" Although I'm semi-retired, feel free to ask me any question you want. I'm also not fearful. I'm just curious. Bill the Cat 7 (talk) 11:49, 25 July 2024 (UTC)[reply]
