WPWP

[edit]

Hi. Thank you for adding all these freely available images to musician pages. I was just wondering what the tags you are adding in the edit summary mean - #WPWP and #WPWPUIL. They aren't linked to anything in the edit summaries, and WP:WPWPUIL/WP:WPUIL don't go anywhere. Chubbles (talk) 17:15, 17 July 2020 (UTC)[reply]

@Chubbles: The tags are for an offsite contest where people are encouraged to spam Wikipedia articles with pictures in order to win a cash prize, irregardless of picture quality or copyright infringement issues.--Mr Fink (talk) 01:43, 18 July 2020 (UTC)[reply]

My Deepest Apologies

[edit]

Actually, I must apologize to you. Due to some unfortunate experiences with some other editors using the #WPWP and #WPWPUIL tags, I developed the assumption that this contest was not appropriate for Wikipedia. Please continue editing as such, and please feel free to revert or undo my reversions of your edits. Again, I deeply apologize for my jumping to conclusions.--Mr Fink (talk) 05:31, 18 July 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Its nothing to apologize for as long as you did that in good faith for ensuring and maintaining the status that we so desire for Wikipedia articles. Again, your points are well noted and attention of the concerned individuals will be called. Thanks. Osenibabalola0 (talk) 14:11, 18 July 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Sourcing

[edit]

Please do not use "thtsearch.com", as you did here and several other articles. Most of these are very obvious simple copies of earlier versions of Wikipedia articles, some are scraped from other sources - everything is a copyright violation. Kuru (talk) 13:09, 19 March 2022 (UTC)[reply]

Thank you kuru for calling my attention to that and I will ensure to take note of that. But may I ask that how sure are you about those claims?
Completely. I can also see you're adding some mirrors that were clearly identified (for example here and here). How are you evaluating the sources that you're using? Kuru (talk) 14:19, 19 March 2022 (UTC)[reply]
Actually, can you please stop for a moment? It looks like you're just searching on a given quote from an article and then pasting in just about any website that comes up. This series of edits introduces a "source" that appears to be a copy of an ebay listing that includes a sloppy cut&paste of the wikipedia article you're trying to source. I can't imagine why this was evaluated as a WP:RS. I'm also seeing a lot of junk scrapers in recent additions. Can you please hold for a moment while this is cleaned up? Kuru (talk) 14:29, 19 March 2022 (UTC)[reply]
Okay, I'm with you @Kuru. But its all because those sites were identified as reliable sources. Osenibabalola0 (talk) 14:49, 19 March 2022 (UTC)[reply]
And please don't forget to leave me a note on suggestions to avoid further mess. Thanks Osenibabalola0 (talk) 14:56, 19 March 2022 (UTC)[reply]
I think that of the "Viola Liuzzo" article was an error from me. But for the other article, I'm not sure what is wrong and I'm hoping to learn from you. Thanks Osenibabalola0 (talk) 14:35, 19 March 2022 (UTC)[reply]
Just from what I'm seeing so far, I think it's what I suggested above. You're searching on an exact phrase, and just assuming anything you find on the internet is reliable. Please take a moment to read WP:RS - it's even more critical the carefully evaluate sources when adding material to biographies (see WP:BLP). There are many sites which blatantly copy Wikipedia - in some cases they clearly identify their source and use the correct license, in others, it's just a straight up copyright violation and they're stealing our work. In no case can we use these sites as sources for the very material they copied. This creates a WP:CIRCULAR problem.
I'm also seeing a lot of situations which are just weird - like this completely random ref. You're also using blogs and other junk sources. There's just too much to cover at this point - I'll try to clean up what I can; it looks like Jeremy Butler has already cleaned up some of it.
I would ask that you please stop adding sources at this point until you have some more experience with it, or at least slow down significantly. This takes a lot of time to evaluate. Kuru (talk) 15:06, 19 March 2022 (UTC)[reply]

If this is the first article that you have created, you may want to read the guide to writing your first article.

You may want to consider using the Article Wizard to help you create articles.

A tag has been placed on ArtFacts.Net requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done under section G4 of the criteria for speedy deletion, because the page appears to be a repost of material that was previously deleted following a deletion discussion, at Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/ArtFacts.Net. When a page has substantially identical content to that of a page deleted after a discussion, and any changes in the content do not address the reasons for which the material was previously deleted, it may be deleted at any time.

If you think this page should not be deleted for this reason, you may contest the nomination by visiting the page and clicking the button labelled "Contest this speedy deletion". This will give you the opportunity to explain why you believe the page should not be deleted. However, be aware that once a page is tagged for speedy deletion, it may be deleted without delay. Please do not remove the speedy deletion tag from the page yourself, but do not hesitate to add information in line with Wikipedia's policies and guidelines. If the page is deleted, and you wish to retrieve the deleted material for future reference or improvement, then please contact the deleting administrator, or if you have already done so, you can place a request here.
