Black-on-black ware: changing the names of image files

[edit]

Hello @OpenDesignsInOfficial: Welcome to Wikipedia. Thank you for your contributions to the Black-on-black ware article, however when you change the names of image files (even if the spelling or wording does not seem right to you) it breaks the links to the image files on Commons, and readers of the encyclopedia can no longer see the images, instead they see an error message. Another editor corrected these errors, so I think it is ok now. It's always a good idea to use the Talk Page of articles before making changes, and to preview your work before publishing it, to check for errors. Just thought you should know, as there is a lot to learn on Wikipedia. I'll send another message as a formal welcome that has some helpful links to learn about how to edit Wikipedia. Happy 2021. Your recent edits

[edit]

I have reverted several of your recent edits as being unhelpful and/or unnecessary. For example, in this one, you unnecessarily changed the spelling of words from one variant of English to another (see WP:ENGVAR), unnecessarily changed every instance of the word "gladiator" to be capitalized (it is not a proper noun), and changed the name "Demostratia" to "Demonstration." While making corrections is helpful, please make sure that they are indeed necessary and proper. Thank you. --Kinu t/c 04:38, 31 December 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Also, for files, it is unnecessary to put a space between the word "File" and the actual file name, so please refrain from introducing those as well. Thank you. --Kinu t/c 04:39, 31 December 2020 (UTC)[reply]

You recently added multiple incidences of unnecessary spaces (including to file names and to bolding of the subject's name) in John Warren Davis (college president), these changes served no purpose so they have been reverted. It is possible that some valid edits were caught in my revert but there were so many unnecessary additions that I felt I should just revert your entire contribution to that article. Adding references can be easy

[edit]
Just follow the steps 1, 2 and 3 as shown and fill in the details

Hello! Here's how to add references from reliable sources for the content you add to Wikipedia. This helps maintain the Wikipedia policy of verifiability.

Adding well formatted references is actually quite easy:

  1. While editing any article or a wikipage, on the top of the edit window you will see a toolbar which says "Cite". Click on it.
  2. Then click on "Templates".
  3. Choose the most appropriate template and fill in as many details as you can. This will add a well formatted reference that is helpful in case the web URL (or "website link") becomes inactive in the future.
  4. Click on Preview when you're done filling out the 'Cite (web/news/book/journal)' to make sure that the reference is correct.
  5. Click on Insert to insert the reference into your editing window content.
  6. Click on Show preview to Preview all your editing changes.
  • Before clicking on Publish changes, check that a References header   ==References==   is near the end of the article.
  • And check that   {{Reflist}}    is directly underneath that header.
7.  Click on Publish changes. ...and you've just added a complete reference to a Wikipedia article.

You can read more about this on Help:Edit toolbar or see this video File:RefTools.ogv.
Hope this helps, --Shearonink (talk) 05:32, 2 January 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Information icon Please refrain from making unconstructive edits to Wikipedia, as you did at Humcha Jain temples. Your edits appear to be disruptive and have been or will be reverted.

Please ensure you are familiar with Wikipedia's policies and guidelines, and please do not continue to make edits that appear disruptive. Continued disruptive editing may result in loss of editing privileges. Please read WP:ENGVAR and stop changing articles in one form of English to another (i.e., changing India-related articles to use US English). Kinu t/c 07:16, 2 January 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Please stop your disruptive editing.

If you continue to disrupt Wikipedia, as you did at American Fine Arts Society, you may be blocked from editing. Please stop introducing grammatical errors to articles. While one of the edits (changing "was" to "were") was correct, "filled in with a brick" makes no sense. Also, please stop introducing unnecessary spaces in places such as reference names. Please request a username change

[edit]

Welcome to Wikipedia. I noticed that your username, "OpenDesignsInOfficial", may not meet Wikipedia's username policy because it is confusingly similar to that of a company. If you believe that your username does not violate our policy, please leave a note here explaining why. As an alternative, you may ask for a change of username by completing the form at Special:GlobalRenameRequest, or you may simply create a new account for editing. There is a web-design company with a name similarly confusing to yours. The use of the term "Official" in your name suggests that you are in fact representing either that company or another entity with a similar name. Accounts are tied to individuals, not companies. If you ARE associated with a company or other entity with any name resembling your current username, please change it to something like "JoeAtOpenDesignsIn" or something that is obviously a "one person" account rather than a "role" account. If you are NOT affiliated with any such company or entity, please pick a name that does not suggest that you are. Thank you. davidwr/(talk)/(contribs) 🎄 18:52, 2 January 2021 (UTC)[reply]

[edit]
Your account has been blocked indefinitely from editing because of the following problems: the account has been used for advertising or promotion, which is contrary to the purpose of Wikipedia, and your username indicates that the account represents a business or other organisation or group or a web site, which is against the username policy.

You may request a change of name and unblock if you intend to make useful contributions other than promoting your business or organization. To do this, first search Special:CentralAuth for available usernames that comply with the username policy. Once you have found an acceptable username, post the text {{unblock-spamun|Your proposed new username|Your reason here}} at the bottom of your talk page. Replace the text "Your proposed new username" with your new username and replace the text "Your reason here" with your reasons to be unblocked. In your reasons, you must:

  • Disclose any compensation you may receive for your contributions in accordance with the Wikipedia:Paid-contribution disclosure requirement.
  • Convince us that you understand the reason for your block and that you will not repeat the kind of edits for which you were blocked.
  • Describe in general terms the contributions that you intend to make if you are unblocked.
Appeals: If, after reviewing the guide to appealing blocks you believe this block was made in error, you may appeal it by adding the text {{unblock|Your reason here}} at the bottom of your talk page. Replace the text "Your reason here" with the reasons you believe the block was an error, and publish the page. -- ferret (talk) 19:01, 2 January 2021 (UTC)[reply]
