Guild of Copy Editors July 2016 News
Guild of Copy Editors July 2016 News
Hello everyone, and welcome to the July 2016 GOCE newsletter. June Blitz: this one-week copy-editing blitz ran from 12 through 18 June; the themes were video games and Asian geography. Of the 18 editors who signed up, 11 removed 47 articles from the backlog. Barnstars and rollover totals are located here. Thanks to all editors who took part. Coordinator elections: The second tranche of Guild coordinators for 2016, who will serve a six-month term until 23:59 UTC on 31 December, have been elected. Jonesey95 remains as your drama-free Lead Coordinator, and Corinne and Tdslk are your new assistant coordinators. For her long service to the Guild, Miniapolis has been enrolled in the GOCE Hall of Fame. Thanks to everyone who voted in the election; our next scheduled one occurs in December 2016. All Wikipedia editors in good standing are eligible; self-nominations are welcome and encouraged. July Drive: Our month-long July Copy Editing Backlog Elimination Drive is now underway. Our aim is to remove articles tagged for copy-edit in April, May and June 2015, and to complete all requests on the GOCE Requests page from June 2016. The drive ends at 23:59 on 31 July 2016 (UTC). Thank you all again for your participation; we wouldn't be able to achieve what we have without you! Cheers from your GOCE coordinators: Jonesey95, Corinne and Tdlsk. |

I have unreviewed a page you curated
Thanks for reviewing Duba Duri دبہ دری, Omni Flames.
Unfortunately Σ has just gone over this page again and unreviewed it. Their note is:
Duba Duri exists. I acknowledge that it's sometimes fitting to stretch CSD criteria to tag some pages that don't exactly fit it and will most probably not survive an AfD. But in the same vein, we should strive to not do so.
To reply, leave a comment on Σ's talk page. →Σσς. (Sigma)
- @Σ: Uh... I didn't put the G2 on that page. I think you're looking for someone else? Omni Flames (talk) 07:17, 3 July 2016 (UTC)
- (edit conflict) You're right. The above message is a templated response from Page Curation with a user-inputted personal message. But you are the one who marked it as patrolled, though @David.moreno72: put the tag on the page in the first place.
- Here is a Pakistani government source on "GGMPS DUBA DURI", a school in the region. And indeed, Google Maps shows a school in the area. My expertise in this area is limited, so I cannot attest to its notability. But regardless, CSD G2 is inappropriate in this case. If you would like to pursue deletion, you can take it to AfD. →Σσς. Advice re: relisting move request debate
Hello - I see you recently closed a move request debate relating to the The Carpenters page. I have some thoughts that I believe to be relevant and that will possibly lead to a different finding resulting in what I believe to be a proper name change. Can I pick your brain on how to best handle this? Thanks in advance. Aleding (talk) 22:59, 4 July 2016 (UTC)
- @Aleding: I would recommend simply opening another requested move and expressing your reasons why you believe the article should be moved there. Omni Flames (talk) 01:53, 5 July 2016 (UTC)
- Will do - thanks. Aleding (talk) 02:21, 5 July 2016 (UTC)

- @IekevanderHuijzen: To be honest I'm not actually sure why I reverted your edit. I remember reverting one with the summary "unnecessary" but it wasn't yours. I apologize, I didn't mean to do that. Omni Flames (talk) 10:18, 5 July 2016 (UTC)

RfC question
If you have a chance, can you look at the RfC I just closed and let me know if this was handled correctly? RfC: [1], closing on ANRFC: [2] Just want a 2nd set of eyes before I got any further in the list. RickinBaltimore (talk) 12:49, 6 July 2016 (UTC)
- @RickinBaltimore: Sure, your close looks good to me. There was definitely consensus to keep the table, and it's great that you also mentioned that there's consensus to collapse it. The close template is done properly as well. Nice job! Omni Flames (talk) 04:37, 7 July 2016 (UTC)
Queen Rania
Hi Omni Flames I wrote in the summary "citation needed and missing link" I thought this would be enough. I also corrected the reference to Harper's Bazaar and not Harper's and Queen. The original link is non-existent if you try clicking on it you will see this. There are only anecdotal secondary references to this ranking on one or 2 websites but there is no direct citation from Harper's Bazaar. The references that I found talk about a ranking as consort and not "first lady". I hope this is clearer now as I think my changes are legitimate.
Domdeparis (talk) 10:58, 5 July 2016 (UTC)
- @Domdeparis: Hi there. Could please link me the diff you're referring to? I can't seem to find it. Omni Flames (talk) 07:19, 6 July 2016 (UTC)

Omni Flames I'm sorry I'm a bit lost, you undid my edit of the page in English about Queen Rania of Jordon and asked me to leave a message on your talk page so I presumed that you knew what I was talking about
https://wiki.riteme.site/w/index.php?title=Queen_Rania_of_Jordan&type=revision&diff=728422739&oldid=728422513 Domdeparis (talk) 09:08, 6 July 2016 (UTC)
- @Domdeparis: That message was an automated one, I didn't write it myself. Anyway, I see what you mean now about the link being nonexistent. However, in general, instead of removing links that don't work, we tag them with {{dead link}} so an archived link can be found. Hope that helps. Omni Flames (talk) 09:24, 6 July 2016 (UTC)
Omni Flames Ok I get it now but in actual fact the link was just a mention in an article that she had been voted the most beautiful consort in a Harper's Bazaar rating but this rating is impossible to find on the net. So it was not really pertinent anyway even if it had not been dead, so I still think that it is better to have a {{citation needed}} in it's place. That said should we be citing an article that claims something based on information for which a source is unavailable? If I say that she was voted the third most beautiful consort in Harper's and Bazaar and this information is picked up by 3 web sites that do not quote their sources and it is not available on Harper's and Bazaar should we allow a reference to one of these web sites or tag it with {{citation needed}} ?
Domdeparis (talk) 10:23, 6 July 2016 (UTC)
I have added the dead link template plus the citation needed template and cleaned up the phrase with sufficient explanations I think.
Domdeparis (talk) 14:39, 6 July 2016 (UTC)
- @Domdeparis: Sure, that's fine. Also, if the link is a dead one, what you can do is try using something like the Wayback Machine to get an archived version of the page. Omni Flames (talk) 04:38, 7 July 2016 (UTC)
