Disambiguation link notification for September 3
[edit]Hi. Thank you for your recent edits. An automated process has detected that when you recently edited Willwood Formation, you added a link pointing to the disambiguation page Hendersonia. Such links are usually incorrect, since a disambiguation page is merely a list of unrelated topics with similar titles. (Read the FAQ • Join us at the DPL WikiProject.)
It's OK to remove this message. Also, to stop receiving these messages, follow these opt-out instructions. Thanks, DPL bot (talk) 09:23, 3 September 2022 (UTC)
Quick note
[edit]Thanks for your contributions. An important note: NEVER link to PDFs of journal articles hosted on Discord, like the one I removed here. This is against Wikipedia policy (WP:COPYLINK) because it opens us up to legal problems. Thanks! Ovinus (talk) 20:06, 19 September 2022 (UTC)
Images of Valentine type location?
[edit]Hi,
I have many images of the "Valentine" outcrop in Rush County, Kansas, but for this page I would prefer to use an image from the type location; anywhere around the Railway Quarries, Cherry County, Nebraska, should do.
You wouldn't happen to have any such image?
IveGoneAway (talk) 16:27, 24 October 2022 (UTC)
Sorry I don't really have any images, all images I add to a page when I edit it simply is picked out from Wikimedia so if there aren't any there then I can't provide one either. Olmagon (talk) 16:33, 24 October 2022 (UTC)
- Thanks. I was just taking a chance you were a local. IveGoneAway (talk) 17:00, 24 October 2022 (UTC)

Wikipedia and copyright
[edit]Hello Olmagon! Your additions to Gavinaspis have been removed in whole or in part, as they appear to have added copyrighted content without evidence that the source material is in the public domain or has been released by its owner or legal agent under a suitably-free and compatible copyright license. (To request such a release, see Wikipedia:Requesting copyright permission.) While we appreciate your contributions to Wikipedia, there are certain things you must keep in mind about using information from sources to avoid copyright and plagiarism issues.
- You can only copy/translate a small amount of a source, and you must mark what you take as a direct quotation with double quotation marks (") and cite the source using an inline citation. You can read about this at Wikipedia:Non-free content in the sections on "text". See also Help:Referencing for beginners, for how to cite sources here.
- Aside from limited quotation, you must put all information in your own words and structure, in proper paraphrase. Following the source's words too closely can create copyright problems, so it is not permitted here; see Wikipedia:Close paraphrasing. Even when using your own words, you are still, however, asked to cite your sources to verify the information and to demonstrate that the content is not original research.
- We have strict guidelines on the usage of copyrighted images. Fair use images must meet all ten of the non-free content criteria in order to be used in articles, or they will be deleted. To be used on Wikipedia, all other images must be made available under a free and open copyright license that allows commercial and derivative reuse.
- If you own the copyright to the source you want to copy or are a legally designated agent, you may be able to license that text so that we can publish it here. Understand, though, that unlike many other sites, where a person can license their content for use there and retain non-free ownership, that is not possible at Wikipedia. Rather, the release of content must be irrevocable, to the world, into either the public domain (PD) or under a suitably-free and compatible copyright license. Please see Wikipedia:Donating copyrighted materials.
- Also note that Wikipedia articles may not be copied or translated without attribution. If you want to copy or translate from another Wikipedia project or article, you must follow the copyright attribution steps described at Wikipedia:Copying within Wikipedia. See also Help:Translation#License requirements.
It's very important that contributors understand and follow these practices, as policy requires that people who persistently do not must be blocked from editing. If you have any questions about this, please ask them here on this page, or leave a message on my talk page. Thank you. — Diannaa (talk) 14:07, 19 December 2022 (UTC)
Your draft article, Draft:Eromangateuthis
[edit]Hello, Olmagon. It has been over six months since you last edited the Articles for Creation submission or Draft page you started, "Eromangateuthis".
In accordance with our policy that Wikipedia is not for the indefinite hosting of material deemed unsuitable for the encyclopedia mainspace, the draft has been deleted. When you plan on working on it further and you wish to retrieve it, you can request its undeletion. An administrator will, in most cases, restore the submission so you can continue to work on it.
Thanks for your submission to Wikipedia, and happy editing. Liz Read! Talk! 20:19, 3 January 2023 (UTC)
Copying licensed material requires attribution
[edit]Hi. I see in a recent addition to Neolissochilus pnar you included material from a webpage that is available under a compatible Creative Commons Licence. That's okay, but you have to give attribution so that our readers are made aware that you copied the prose rather than wrote it yourself. It's also required under the terms of the license. I've added the attribution for this particular instance. Please make sure that you follow this licensing requirement when copying from compatibly-licensed material in the future. — Diannaa (talk) 14:53, 9 February 2023 (UTC)
I honestly don't entirely understand what that means. I can tell it's something about copyright but not exactly what it is I did wrong. I mean I cited the source and reworded everything I could so it wouldn't be a direct copy. Olmagon (talk) 00:33, 10 February 2023 (UTC)
- There was actually enough overlap that a bot reported it as a potential copyright violation. The source document is released under a CC-by 4.0 license, which means it's okay to copy, but you have to provide attribution. I added a template with this edit to indicate that the content was in part copied from that source and to show that it's compatibly licensed. — Diannaa (talk) 01:12, 10 February 2023 (UTC)
Paraná Formation
[edit]Thank you for creating the Paraná Formation article. However, it does not currently feature any references. I would recommend citing your sources, as any non-cited material is at risk of being deleted. The Green Star Collector (talk) 12:09, 21 May 2023 (UTC)

CS1 error on Paraná Formation
[edit]Hello, I'm Qwerfjkl (bot). I have automatically detected that this edit performed by you, on the page Paraná Formation, may have introduced referencing errors. They are as follows:
- A "missing periodical" error. References show this error when the name of the magazine or journal is not given. Please edit the article to add the name of the magazine/journal to the reference, or use a different citation template. (Fix | Ask for help)
Please check this page and fix the errors highlighted. If you think this is a false positive, you can report it to my operator. Thanks, Qwerfjkl (bot) (talk) 18:04, 21 May 2023 (UTC)

Haifanggou/Jiulongshan Formation
[edit]Hi, thanks for you work on improving paleobiota lists. I recently noticed your work on the Haifanggou Formation article. this checklist from 2021 suggests that at least 760 insects have been described from the formation. Paleoentomology is a notoriously difficult journal to actually get access to, so if you wanted the paper it would probably be best to email the authors to ask for it. Hemiauchenia (talk) 00:42, 30 June 2023 (UTC)
- The book Rhythms of Insect Evolution: Evidence from the Jurassic and Cretaceous in Northern China Also provides a comprehensive listing of insects from the formation up until 2019, and is readily accessible via the Wikipedia library. Hemiauchenia (talk) 00:45, 30 June 2023 (UTC)

DYK for Asiavorator
[edit]On 18 October 2023, Did you know was updated with a fact from the article Asiavorator, which you recently created, substantially expanded, or brought to good article status. The fact was ... that although fossils of the extinct mammal Asiavorator were first found in 1922, the genus was not named until 73 years later, in 1995? The nomination discussion and review may be seen at Template:Did you know nominations/Asiavorator. You are welcome to check how many pageviews the nominated article or articles got while on the front page (here's how, Asiavorator), and the hook may be added to the statistics page after its run on the Main Page has completed.
