Would you mind copy-editing this article? any help would be appreciated. The Bookkeeper (of the Occult) 23:19, 27 June 2008 (UTC)

In my view this article is well written and needs no further copy editing. As for the subject matter, I'm not familiar with it and don't know what I can add or remove to improve it. OlEnglish (talk) 04:44, 28 June 2008 (UTC)

Can you help?

I see you were listed as a participant in the League of Copy-Editors so it seems likely. The thing is the Military history wikiproject urgently needs prose pros to help with our best articles. In Milhist, A-Class has become the last port of call before FAC and we are looking for people to help identify prose and MoS issues at A-Class A-Class Reviews and help fix them prior to featured article candidacy. We also have a copy-editing section in our Logistics Dept and that can always use experienced copy-editors. For most of our articles, you don't need to be a specialist in the subject matter, just good with words.

If you think you can help, please do! Thanks for your time, --ROGER DAVIES talk

The Texas Chain Saw Massacre

Hi, I recently did a major expansion of the above-named article and was wondering if you could copy edit the article? If you can, please don't hesitate to contact me, because it would be greatly appreciated. Thanks, --EclipseSSD (talk) 21:09, 11 July 2008 (UTC)

Articles Needing Copy Edit

Hello former LOCE member :)

This is an invitation for you to join a brand-new WikiProject that aims to improve the articles tagged for copy edit. This is pretty important to Wikipedia because there are now over 4,000 such articles, some of which need quite a bit of help. This is not a clone of the LOCE because we will not deal with requests for copy edits, but will happily make improvements to articles at our own pace. If you're interested, sign up at the project page!

Cheers, Samuel Tan 02:53, 23 July 2008 (UTC)

Re: Your edit summary

The Barnstar of Good Humor
I hereby award you this Barnstar for making me chuckle before lunch with this edit summary. Khukri 10:06, 13 August 2008 (UTC)

"oh come on, you could've left in more info than 'that.. the article has issues yes, that's why the tags are there, how bout we just edit out the POV stuff instead of the entire article?"

Because I have neither the knowledge nor the inclination to clean up some antagonist's screed. I already asked someone who edits related topics if he wanted to fix the page; he did not respond. My initial reaction was to simply delete the page, but I had the same reaction you did. Then I thought to merely leave the introduction, but I cannot verify that the tribe has "over nine million people" or that its history "goes back to pre-Islamic times and millions descend from the tribe today in Iraq and neighboring countries such as Syria and Jordan." Actually, I do not even know if this is a real tribe, or instead a group of people pretending to greatness and antiquity. Given the history of the article's creator and only substantial editor (and sockpuppets), this would not be far-fetched.

If you want to fix it, go for it; but the article needs to be rebuilt from scratch, independently verifying all its statements. —Centrxtalk • 00:20, 16 August 2008 (UTC)

Actually, on further inspection, the page also contains copyright infringements (e.g. "Ottoman+forces+continued+to+assist+the"), so even if the article were not entirely the product of a POV warrior, its text is not trustable as eligible for inclusion. —Centrxtalk • 00:26, 16 August 2008 (UTC)
If you're referring to the pdf study, how is that a copyright infringement? He doesn't copy the entire study does he? The editor just quotes a part of it and gives a citation (although not to the pdf study but maybe that's where the study got it's info from) I'm not certain but I thought it's permissable to quote a portion of copyrighted work as long as it's referenced?
Otherwise, agreed. It does need to be completely overhauled, and I'll take up the task but not all at once, over time i'll eventually fix it up. In the meantime, the multiple issues tags are there as a disclaimer of sorts that the article definately needs work and shouldn't be taken as gospel. OlEnglish (talk) 00:31, 16 August 2008 (UTC)

Okey-dokey. —Centrxtalk • 00:39, 16 August 2008 (UTC)

I don't know how much is copied. And if some text is copied from that source without quotation marks or any indication that it is a verbatim copy, then it is hard to know how much text is copied from sources we know not about, or for which it is difficult to detect the copying, such as from the off-line sources listed at the bottom of the page. Ironically, text copied verbatim from the Commonwealth Institute is probably more reliable than the editor's other exploits--but if the article is entirely copied, it needs to be entirely re-written. —Centrxtalk • 00:48, 16 August 2008 (UTC)

Good point. Maybe a member from Wikiproject Iraq can clean this up once and for all. Btw, I'm moving this discussion to the article's Talk page. OlEnglish (talk) 00:59, 16 August 2008 (UTC)

Copyedit request

Hello, there. I am contacting you because you say you are a copyeditor. I was wondering if you would be interested in copyediting Highlander: The Series (season 2). It has recently undergone Peer Review and only a lack of copyediting is currently preventing it from going to FLC. It has already been half reviewed and the copyeditor left notes on the talk page, which you might find useful, should you take the job, which would be to complete the copyedit. Your time would be greatly appreciated. Have a merry Christmas, Rosenknospe (talk) 16:18, 23 December 2008 (UTC)

Medical cannabis

I really don't think we need another external link in this article. Viriditas (talk) 23:56, 14 January 2009 (UTC)

I thought it's an important link with a wealth of information relating to medical cannabis in Canada, plus there is no article yet on compassion clubs which are very notable in British Columbia. Once that article is created the link can be moved there. OlEnglish (talk) 00:02, 15 January 2009 (UTC)
Agreed. See the article talk page. Viriditas (talk) 00:09, 15 January 2009 (UTC)

suggestion for expanding bosenova stub

I have written a rather absurd interpretation of quantum mechanics http://wiki.riteme.site/wiki/User:Fx303#Vector_Energy_Interpretation_of_Quantum_Mechanics which, however, is based on solid math and science references. The purpose of this interpretation is not a serious attempt to explain QM, rather to provide a means for alternate views to be expressed through semantic games over "real" and "imaginary" numbers and when to toss the imaginary component. This is for the purpose of helping someone see it in a new light and come up with a real explanation.

The VEIQM would run like: The missing atoms are not missing. They converted to negative vector energy photons and went to the universe's bank of energy-time uncertainty from which other parts of the universe can borrow. Somewhere, a bunch of atoms were needed, so that void borrowed from uncertain energy-time and brought them into existence there (wherever there is). To conserve stuff, whatever was needed took place (like creating a neutrino - hah) and all laws were satisfied. As silly as it sounds, maybe someone finds a new line of inquiry and actually figures it out from reading this.

I propose the idea to you as last editor of that article, the above is my contribution and explanation of intent.

Your call what to do with it, as a newcomer I would request to defer to you on this issue. Fx303 (talk) 14:13, 21 January 2009 (UTC)

Welcome, and thanks for contributing! I was the last editor of that article however I only did a minor formatting edit of the layout to conform to Wikipedia's Manual of Style and I have no knowledge or expertise on the subject. I forwarded this message to Bosenova's Talk page and to WikiProject Physics' Talk page where I'm sure someone can help you with this. Sounds like it could be viewed by some editors as violating Wikipedia's Original Research policy however you mentioned it was based on "solid math and science references" so just be sure to cite your references, and go ahead and be bold! I'll help with any copy editing or formatting you may need. Expanding stubs is in my opinion the most productive way to contribute to Wikipedia so I'm grateful we have knowledgeable editors such as yourself that can do that. Hello, Fellow de-orphaner!

I noticed you added your name to the list of participants in WikiProject Orphanage. We really appreciate your help! The first things you could do to get started with us are:

  1. Read the Wikipedia:WikiProject Orphanage page, especially the section marked "Criteria". The page contains a lot of good advice to get you started, as well as the standard procedures we are using to de-orphan articles.
  2. Look at {{orphan}}, {{do-attempt}}, and {{articleissues}} closely and make sure you know how to use them correctly. (It's not difficult, but it is easy to screw up. Trust me, I have.)
  3. Keep de-orphaning! Category:Orphaned articles contains all orphaned articles organized by month. Right now we're just trying to keep up with all the new orphans being created, so please start with the current monthly category. Once those are cleared out, we can start working on the backlog in reverse-chronological order.
Of course, you may have already known all of this, in which case sorry for the spam. Either way, let me know if there's any way I can help you contribute more to the project!

Wikipedia page of budget debate

Hey hi, I dont know proper procedure to post my this point . but this is regarding addition of new article on "budget debating". This is form of debate done only in Indian Colleges .. mainly IITs and Management colleges owning to its difficulty. The rules itself of this debate is 3 pages long, and I have tried my best to put this in short. Plz consider accepting the post, bcoz the event is legitimate and debating is done on it in many good colleges of India ( those who do parliamentry debate also) , but owning to a poorer technological condition, there is not much info about this given on internet I hope u understand —Preceding unsigned comment added by 210.212.8.60 (talk) 02:40, 9 February 2009 (UTC)

BUDGET DEBATE

Hi , this is regarding what you posted on Afd Point One -- Abt Budget Day - if you see a googlepages alfaaz link given , you will see that the Budet debate is like making a business plan / or more like a AOE game where teams are given funds to manage, After reading the scenario given in rule booklet you will realise that its way above the standard of School debate.

Secondly "Institute of National Importance" clause is mentioned in constitution of India. These few institutes are fully overnment funded and any practice adopted by these institutes is regarded as guidelines to rest all colleges of India. To check credibility of IIT's and status in India , I would suggest you all to just read about it once on wikipedia itself. Lastly is there a compulsion that things now practised in West wont get mention in Wikipedia , if Australian Debate can mention, debatin done in Australia, y is it wrong for Budget Debate I Hope you will change your mindset now and vote in favour —Preceding unsigned comment added by Siddharth171287 (talkcontribs) 20:21, 9 February 2009 (UTC)

I saw that you suggested "List of XFce applications" to be merged to "Xfce". I think it is better not to do that. Bong

Answered in my talk. Please review WP:RS for what is reliable for wikipedia, not for me. - 7-bubёn >t 02:27, 20 February 2009 (UTC)

Heh. Replied in your talk, also I'm quite aware of WP:RS. :) -- OlEnglish (Talk) 02:42, 20 February 2009 (UTC)
Well, it was not exactly "howto", since it was about various constructions of bongs. Next, I know that this kind of info is on internet since Al Gore invented internets. But I still think that the major issue is the reliability of sources. The major point of a reliable source is that we usually know where the info came from and the degree of notability of info. In the case of bongs, we cannot be sure that a "straw-and-condom pneumatic bong" was not rigged yesterday just for fun by a random Chong and then posted to amuse homies. I am acutely aware that certain subcultures lack of reliable sources (and lack of desire to look for them). (My most painful area is ballroom dance: there are plenty of books which teach you how to dance, but next to none of historical and biographical ones. ) Still, wikipedia has its rules, and if someone does not like them, they can set their own fan wikis, similar to those for Star Wars and Pokemon universes, with relaxed criteria for inclusion. - 7-bubёn >t 17:07, 20 February 2009 (UTC)
Al Gore vs. internets: Well, it is an old news (you didn't know it?) On the occasion I've just re-read "Al Gore" and was surprized to find that his PR (official or wikipedians) spent a whole long paragraph to cover up his 'internet' blooper. - 7-bubёn >t 17:55, 20 February 2009 (UTC)
P.S. Wow! a whole wikipedia article! Al_Gore's_contributions_to_the_Internet_and_technology. Gore & Co must have been really pissed off when Bush picked on him. - 7-bubёn >t 18:06, 20 February 2009 (UTC)

Editor review

Hello, you currently have an Editor review request listed on the main page, although it has failed to gain comments, are you still interested in having it open, if so or if not please acknowledge me of that to make a proper archival of the nomination. Thanks.--TRUCO 22:37, 25 February 2009 (UTC)

Hi, yeah sure, go ahead and archive it. I'm not sure why I haven't been able to get any comments, probably because my answers to the questions were so brief. I will try again for another review sometime in the future. You asked if I want to have it remain open.. if I say no then what happens to it? Does that mean there won't be any chance of getting any comments on it? Will it be deleted or just archived? If it's archived people would still be able to make a comment on it won't they? -- OlEnglish (Talk) 22:30, 26 February 2009 (UTC)
It will be closed as in not being able to edit again. There are currently no reviewers really at ER which is why many have not gained reviews. Possibly in the future you can have more comments. It will be archived and closed from comments and move to its respective archive page.--TRUCO 22:39, 26 February 2009 (UTC)
