Maria Sharapova

[edit]

I just read your message on the article talk page. I am replying here so as not to inflame the situation with a certain editor.

WP:PRESERVE doesn't preclude removing small details which add little value to the article. Certainly, if it is too detailed for a finished biography, it can be removed - for example, we routinely and with little thinking remove details like shoe size, hair colour, pet names and other such trivia. Nevertheless, there are editors so obsessed with intricate detail that they want nothing ever to be removed, and it can be a struggle to persuade them that 'less is more'. The problem with intricate detail pervades tennis articles, and explains why there are precious few tennis related Good Articles or Featured Articles. At present, there is a concerted editing effort targeted at Serena Williams. If you look at a diff of the article compared to three weeks ago, you will see that the changes which have taken place at have included a substantial amount of excision of the small detail; it looks to be on its way to becoming a Featured Article candidate.

If you want to take the article to WP:FA, there are many editors who are willing to help - I suggest for you to post your request at WP:TENNIS or WP:WPBIO. There is no prerequisite for an article to be a GA before it can be nominated for Featured Article candidate. Happy editing! Ohconfucius (talk) 02:17, 5 May 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Another unconstructive post by Ohconfucius.... The above is merely his opinion, OgiBear, as a quick reading of WP:PRESERVE would reveal. As for the Serena Williams article, Ohconfucius is apparently unaware that the deleted material is going to be preserved via one or more forked articles. Removed speedy deletion tag: Serena Slam

[edit]

Hi OgiBear! I just wanted to inform you that I removed the speedy deletion tag you placed on Serena Slam- because: there is sufficient context to identify the subject of the article. If you have any questions or comments, please do not hesitate to contact me. decltype (talk) 05:58, 16 June 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Please update your status with WP:VG

Dear WikiProject Video games member,

You are receiving this message because you have either Category:WikiProject Video games members or {{User WPVG}} somewhere in your userspace and you have edited Wikipedia in recent months.

The Video games project has created a member list to provide a clearer picture of its active membership.

All members have currently been placed in the "Inactive" section by default. Please remove your username from the "Inactive" listing and place it under the "Active" listing if you plan on regularly:

Ideally, members are encouraged to do both, but either one meets our criteria of inclusion. Members still listed inactive at the beginning of November 2009 may be removed. You may re-add yourself to the active list at any time. Thank you for your help, and we look forward to working with you.

Hi, at Wikipedia:The 10,000 Challenge we're striving to bring about 10,000 article improvements and creations for the UK and Ireland and inspire others to create more content. In order to achieve this we need diversity of content, in all parts of the UK and Ireland on all topics. Eventually a regional contest will be held for all parts of the British Isles, like they were for Wales and the Wedt Country. We currently have just over 1900 articles and need contributors! If you think you'd be interested in collaborating on this and helping reach the target quicker, please sign up and begin listing your entries there as soon as possible! Thanks.♦ --MediaWiki message delivery (talk) 13:42, 28 September 2016 (UTC)[reply]
