Removing "Roman" from "Roman Catholic"

[edit]

Please stop removing "Roman" from "Roman Catholic" in various articles on Wikipedia. There is no WP:CONSENSUS for this change, and making this kind of change without consensus is WP:Disruptive editing. If you feel strongly about this, start a WP:Request for comments in some central location, and advertise it widely to attract anyone with an interest in the subject. WP:Centralized discussions is a good place to list it, and WP:WikiProject Catholicism would probably be a good place to hold the discussion.

In the meantime, however, please stop making changes until you can show a consensus to do so. Beyond My Ken (talk) 23:51, 20 May 2020 (UTC)[reply]

@Drimies:, who has had an interest in other editors who have made similar changes in the past. Beyond My Ken (talk) 23:51, 20 May 2020 (UTC)[reply]
@Drmies: - Correcting my ping, see previous comments. Beyond My Ken (talk) 23:52, 20 May 2020 (UTC)[reply]
Beyond My Ken, this does not appear to be that old nemesis, documented partly at User:Drmies/Roman Catholic?. Drmies (talk) 00:03, 21 May 2020 (UTC)[reply]
I'm WP:AGFing that it's not that person. Beyond My Ken (talk) 00:06, 21 May 2020 (UTC)[reply]
BMK, that's funny--I meant that as a CU-confirmed statement (well, confirmed as much as possible), but you read it, quite understandably, as a question: the question mark is, however, part of the title of the document. Take care! Drmies (talk) 01:10, 21 May 2020 (UTC)[reply]
Ah! Thanks for clearing that up, and it's good to know that Oaveldezi is not the other person. Beyond My Ken (talk) 01:53, 21 May 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Shouldn't WP:WikiProject Catholicism be renamed WP:WikiProject Roman Catholicism? — Preceding unsigned comment added by Oavaldezi (talkcontribs) 19:57, 20 May 2020 (UTC)[reply]

  • No, I am not a poser, but I do agree with that "old nemesis" that Catholics do not self-identify as "Roman", and that makes "Roman Catholic" an externally given, disparaging epithet. Oavaldezi (talk) 02:09, 21 May 2020 (UTC)[reply]
But you have no sensibility to that. Oavaldezi (talk) 02:10, 21 May 2020 (UTC)[reply]
Get a consensus of people to agree with you in the manner I've described above, and you're fine. Until then, please don't remove "Roman". (Incidentally, I can walk out of my apartment and touch a half-dozen churches that have "Roman Catholic" in their name, just as all the Roman Catholic dioceses and archdioceses do. And that's as far as I want to go in arguing the subject, I'll save the rest for your RfC.) Beyond My Ken (talk) 02:22, 21 May 2020 (UTC)[reply]
