- Several areas of improvement collated from community member votes have been identified in the Universal Code of Conduct Enforcement guidelines. The areas of improvement have been sent back for review and you are invited to provide input on these areas.
- Administrators using the mobile web interface can now access Special:Block directly from user pages. (T307341)
- The IP Info feature has been deployed to all wikis as a Beta Feature. Any autoconfirmed user may enable the feature using the "IP info" checkbox under Preferences → Beta features. Autoconfirmed users will be able to access basic information about an IP address that includes the country and connection method. Those with advanced privileges (admin, bureaucrat, checkuser) will have access to extra information that includes the Internet Service Provider and more specific location.
- Remedy 2 of the Rachel Marsden case has been rescinded following a motion. The remedy previously authorised administrators to delete or reduce to a stub, together with their talk pages, articles related to Rachel Marsden when they violate Wikipedia's biographies of living persons policy.
- An arbitration case regarding WikiProject Tropical Cyclones has been closed.

Hi! Not necessarily disagreeing with this decline, but he's trying to submit it as an article. Just wait for G13 since it will literally never be approved? Star Mississippi 21:34, 6 June 2022 (UTC)
- G13 doesn't apply in userspace. You could take it to miscellany for deletion, or keep an eye on it and so long as he doesn't keep re-submitting it or turn it into something blatantly promotional, just leave it be. ~ ONUnicorn(Talk|Contribs)problem solving 21:37, 6 June 2022 (UTC)

New Page Patrol newsletter June 2022
Hello ONUnicorn,
- Backlog status
At the time of the last newsletter (No.27, May 2022), the backlog was approaching 16,000, having shot up rapidly from 6,000 over the prior two months. The attention the newsletter brought to the backlog sparked a flurry of activity. There was new discussion on process improvements, efforts to invite new editors to participate in NPP increased and more editors requested the NPP user right so they could help, and most importantly, the number of reviews picked up and the backlog decreased, dipping below 14,000[a] at the end of May.
Since then, the news has not been so good. The backlog is basically flat, hovering around 14,200. I wish I could report the number of reviews done and the number of new articles added to the queue. But the available statistics we have are woefully inadequate. The only real number we have is the net queue size.[b]
In the last 30 days, the top 100 reviewers have all made more than 16 patrols (up from 8 last month), and about 70 have averaged one review a day (up from 50 last month).
While there are more people doing more reviews, many of the ~730 with the NPP right are doing little. Most of the reviews are being done by the top 50 or 100 reviewers. They need your help. We appreciate every review done, but please aim to do one a day (on average, or 30 a month).
- Backlog drive
A backlog reduction drive, coordinated by buidhe and Zippybonzo, will be held from July 1 to July 31. Sign up here. Barnstars will be awarded.
- TIP – New school articles
Many new articles on schools are being created by new users in developing and/or non-English-speaking countries. The authors are probably not even aware of Wikipedia's projects and policy pages. WP:WPSCH/AG has some excellent advice and resources specifically written for these users. Reviewers could consider providing such first-time article creators with a link to it while also mentioning that not all schools pass the GNG and that elementary schools are almost certainly not notable.
- Misc
There is a new template available, {{NPP backlog}}
, to show the current backlog. You can place it on your user or talk page as a reminder:
Very high unreviewed pages backlog: 13935 articles, as of 10:00, 1 December 2024 (UTC), according to DatBot
There has been significant discussion at WP:VPP recently on NPP-related matters (Draftification, Deletion, Notability, Verifiability, Burden). Proposals that would somewhat ease the burden on NPP aren't gaining much traction, although there are suggestions that the role of NPP be fundamentally changed to focus only on major CSD-type issues.
- Reminders
- Consider staying informed on project issues by putting the project discussion page on your watchlist.
- If you have noticed a user with a good understanding of Wikipedia notability and deletion, suggest they help the effort by placing
{{subst:NPR invite}}
on their talk page. - If you are no longer very active on Wikipedia or you no longer wish to be part of the New Page Reviewer user group, please consider asking any admin to remove you from the list. This will enable NPP to have a better overview of its performance and what improvements need to be made to the process and its software.

WikiCup 2022 July newsletter
The third round of the 2022 WikiCup has now come to an end. Each of the sixteen contestants who made it into the fourth round had at least 180 points, which is a lower figure than last year when 294 points were needed to progress to round 4. Our top scorers in round 3 were:
- BennyOnTheLoose, with 746 points, a tally built both on snooker and other sports topics, and on more general subjects.
- Bloom6132, with 683 points, garnered mostly from "In the news" items and related DYKs.
- Sammi Brie, with 527, from a variety of submissions related to radio and television stations.
Between them contestants achieved 5 featured articles, 4 featured lists, 51 good articles, 149 DYK entries, 68 ITN entries, and 109 good article reviews. As we enter the fourth round, remember that any content promoted after the end of round 3 but before the start of round 4 can be claimed in round 4. Please also remember that you must claim your points within 14 days of "earning" them. When doing GARs, please make sure that you check that all the GA criteria are fully met. Please also remember that all submissions must meet core Wikipedia policies, regardless of the review process.
If you are concerned that your nomination—whether it is a good article nomination, a featured process, or anything else—will not receive the necessary reviews, please list it on Wikipedia:WikiCup/Reviews Needed (remember to remove your listing when no longer required). Questions are welcome on Wikipedia talk:WikiCup, and the judges are reachable on their talk pages or by email. Good luck! If you wish to start or stop receiving this newsletter, please feel free to add or remove your name from Wikipedia:WikiCup/Newsletter/Send. Hello to you, ONUnicorn,
Just a head's up if you are helping out at WP:REFUND: When you restore a draft or sandbox that was deleted due to CSD G13, after you restore the page, you need to make a minor edit to the page or it immediately shows up as eligible for G13 deletion again since, without your edit, it's been more than 6 months since there was a non-bot edit to the page. And, unfortunately, not all of our page taggers will check out the page logs to see that the draft was recently restored.
There is actually a script, at User:SD0001/RFUD-helper, that will take care of the dummy edit for you. Thanks and have a great weekend! Stay cool! Liz Read! Talk! 00:27, 23 July 2022 (UTC)
Whoops, I normally do remove the G13 after restoring, just forgot this time. Thanks for letting me know about the script. ~ ONUnicorn(Talk|Contribs)problem solving 16:12, 23 July 2022 (UTC)
Administrators' newsletter – August 2022
News and updates for administrators from the past month (July 2022).
- An RfC has been closed with consensus to add javascript that will show edit notices for editors editing via a mobile device. This only works for users using a mobile browser, so iOS app editors will still not be able to see edit notices.
- An RfC has been closed with the consensus that train stations are not inherently notable.
- The Wikimania 2022 Hackathon will take place virtually from 11 August to 14 August.
- Administrators will now see links on user pages for "Change block" and "Unblock user" instead of just "Block user" if the user is already blocked. (T308570)
- The arbitration case request Geschichte has been automatically closed after a 3 month suspension of the case.
- You can vote for candidates in the 2022 Board of Trustees elections from 16 August to 30 August. Two community elected seats are up for election.
- Wikimania 2022 is taking place virtually from 11 August to 14 August. The schedule for wikimania is listed here. There are also a number of in-person events associated with Wikimania around the world.

New Page Patrol newsletter August 2022
Hello ONUnicorn,
- Backlog status
After the last newsletter (No.28, June 2022), the backlog declined another 1,000 to 13,000 in the last week of June. Then the July backlog drive began, during which 9,900 articles were reviewed and the backlog fell by 4,500 to just under 8,500 (these numbers illustrate how many new articles regularly flow into the queue). Thanks go to the coordinators Buidhe and Zippybonzo, as well as all the nearly 100 participants. Congratulations to Dr vulpes who led with 880 points. See this page for further details.
Unfortunately, most of the decline happened in the first half of the month, and the backlog has already risen to 9,600. Understandably, it seems many backlog drive participants are taking a break from reviewing and unfortunately, we are not even keeping up with the inflow let alone driving it lower. We need the other 600 reviewers to do more! Please try to do at least one a day.
- Coordination
- MB and Novem Linguae have taken on some of the coordination tasks. Please let them know if you are interested in helping out. MPGuy2824 will be handling recognition, and will be retroactively awarding the annual barnstars that have not been issued for a few years.
- Open letter to the WMF
- The Page Curation software needs urgent attention. There are dozens of bug fixes and enhancements that are stalled (listed at Suggested improvements). We have written a letter to be sent to the WMF and we encourage as many patrollers as possible to sign it here. We are also in negotiation with the Board of Trustees to press for assistance. Better software will make the active reviewers we have more productive.
- TIP - Reviewing by subject
- Reviewers who prefer to patrol new pages by their most familiar subjects can do so from the regularly updated sorted topic list.
- New reviewers
- The NPP School is being underused. The learning curve for NPP is quite steep, but a detailed and easy-to-read tutorial exists, and the Curation Tool's many features are fully described and illustrated on the updated page here.
- Reminders
- Consider staying informed on project issues by putting the project discussion page on your watchlist.
- If you have noticed a user with a good understanding of Wikipedia notability and deletion, suggest they help the effort by placing
{{subst:NPR invite}}
on their talk page. - If you are no longer very active on Wikipedia or you no longer wish to be part of the New Page Reviewer user group, please consider asking any admin to remove you from the list. This will enable NPP to have a better overview of its performance and what improvements need to be made to the process and its software.

WikiCup 2022 September newsletter
WikiCup 2022 September newsletter
The fourth round of the WikiCup has now finished. 383 points were required to reach the final, and the new round has got off to a flying start with all finalists already scoring. In round 4, Bloom6132 with 939 points was the highest points-scorer, with a combination of DYKs and In the news items, followed by BennyOnTheLoose, Sammi Brie and Lee Vilenski. The points of all contestants are swept away as we start afresh for the final round.
At this stage, we say goodbye to the eight competitors who didn't quite make it; thank you for the useful contributions you have made to the Cup and Wikipedia, and we hope you will join us again next year. For the remaining competitors, remember that any content promoted after the end of round 4 but before the start of round 5 can be claimed in round 5. Remember too that you must claim your points within 14 days of "earning" them, and importantly, before the deadline on October 31st!

Administrators' newsletter – October 2022
News and updates for administrators from the past month (September 2022).
- Following an RfC, consensus was found that if the rationale for a block depends on information that is not available to all administrators, that information should be sent to the Arbitration Committee, a checkuser or an oversighter for action (as applicable, per ArbCom's recent updated guidance) instead of the administrator making the block.
- Following an RfC, consensus has been found that, in the context of politics and science, the reliability of FoxNews.com is unclear and that additional considerations apply to its use.
- Community comment on the revised Universal Code of Conduct enforcement guidelines is requested until 8 October.
- The Articles for creation helper script now automatically recognises administrator accounts which means your name does not need to be listed at WP:AFCP to help out. If you wish to help out at AFC, enable AFCH by navigating to Preferences → Gadgets and checking the "Yet Another AfC Helper Script" box.
- Remedy 8.1 of the Muhammad images case will be rescinded 1 November following a motion.
- A modification to the deletion RfC remedy in the Conduct in deletion-related editing case has been made to reaffirm the independence of the RfC and allow the moderators to split the RfC in two.
- The second phase of the 2021-22 Discretionary Sanctions Review closes 3 October.
- An administrator's account was recently compromised. Administrators are encouraged to check that their passwords are secure, and reminded that ArbCom reserves the right to not restore adminship in cases of poor account security. You can also use two-factor authentication (2FA) to provide an extra level of security.
- Self-nominations for the electoral commission for the 2022 Arbitration Committee elections open 2 October and close 8 October.
- You are invited to comment on candidates in the 2022 CUOS appointments process.
- An RfC is open to discuss whether to make Vector 2022 the default skin on desktop.
- Tech tip: You can do a fuzzy search of all deleted page titles at Special:Undelete.

New Page Patrol newsletter October 2022
Hello ONUnicorn,
Much has happened since the last newsletter over two months ago. The open letter finished with 444 signatures. The letter was sent to several dozen people at the WMF, and we have heard that it is being discussed but there has been no official reply. A related article appears in the current issue of The Signpost. If you haven't seen it, you should, including the readers' comment section.
Awards: Barnstars were given for the past several years (thanks to MPGuy2824), and we are now all caught up. The 2021 cup went to John B123 for leading with 26,525 article reviews during 2021. To encourage moderate activity, a new "Iron" level barnstar is awarded annually for reviewing 360 articles ("one-a-day"), and 100 reviews earns the "Standard" NPP barnstar. About 90 reviewers received barnstars for each of the years 2018 to 2021 (including the new awards that were given retroactively). All awards issued for every year are listed on the Awards page. Check out the new Hall of Fame also.
Software news: Novem Linguae and MPGuy2824 have connected with WMF developers who can review and approve patches, so they have been able to fix some bugs, and make other improvements to the Page Curation software. You can see everything that has been fixed recently here. The reviewer report has also been improved.
Suggestions:
- There is much enthusiasm over the low backlog, but remember that the "quality and depth of patrolling are more important than speed".
- Reminder: an article should not be tagged for any kind of deletion for a minimum of 15 minutes after creation and it is often appropriate to wait an hour or more. (from the NPP tutorial)
- Reviewers should focus their effort where it can do the most good, reviewing articles. Other clean-up tasks that don't require advanced permissions can be left to other editors that routinely improve articles in these ways (creating Talk Pages, specifying projects and ratings, adding categories, etc.) Let's rely on others when it makes the most sense. On the other hand, if you enjoy doing these tasks while reviewing and it keeps you engaged with NPP (or are guiding a newcomer), then by all means continue.
- This user script puts a link to the feed in your top toolbar.
Backlog:
Saving the best for last: From a July low of 8,500, the backlog climbed back to 11,000 in August and then reversed in September dropping to below 6,000 and continued falling with the October backlog drive to under 1,000, a level not seen in over four years. Keep in mind that there are 2,000 new articles every week, so the number of reviews is far higher than the backlog reduction. To keep the backlog under a thousand, we have to keep reviewing at about half the recent rate!
- Reminders
- Newsletter feedback - please take this short poll about the newsletter.
- If you're interested in instant messaging and chat rooms, please join us on the New Page Patrol Discord, where you can ask for help and live chat with other patrollers.
- Please add the project discussion page to your watchlist.
- If you are no longer very active on Wikipedia or you no longer wish to be a reviewer, please ask any admin to remove you from the group. If you want the tools back again, just ask at PERM.
- To opt out of future mailings, please remove yourself here.

WikiCup 2022 November newsletter
The 2022 WikiCup has drawn to a close with the final round going down to the wire. The 2022 champion is
- Lee Vilenski (1752 points), who won in 2020 and was runner up in both 2019 and last year. In the final round he achieved 3 FAs and 15 GAs, mostly on cue sports. He was closely followed by
- Bloom6132 (1732), who specialised in "In the news" items and DYKs, and who has reached the final round of the Cup for the past three years. Next was
- BennyOnTheLoose (1238), another cue sports enthusiast, also interested in songs, followed by
- Muboshgu (1082), an "In the news" contributor, a seasoned contestant who first took part in the Cup ten years ago. Other finalists were
- Sammi Brie (930), who scored with a featured article, good articles and DYKs on TV and radio stations,
- Kavyansh.Singh (370), who created various articles on famous Americans, including an FA on Louis H. Bean, famed for his prediction of election outcomes. Next was
- PCN02WPS (292), who scored with good articles and DYKs on sporting and other topics and
- Z1720 (25) who had DYKs on various topics including historic Canadians.
During the WikiCup, contestants achieved 37 featured articles, 349 good articles, 360 featured article reviews, 683 good article reviews and 480 In the news items, so Wikipedia has benefited greatly from the activities of WikiCup competitors. Well done everyone! All those who reached the final round will receive awards and the following special awards will be made, based on high performance in particular areas of content creation and review. So that the finalists do not have an undue advantage, these prizes are awarded to the competitor who scored the highest in any particular field in a single round, or the overall leader in this field.
- Lee Vilenski wins the featured article prize, for a total of 6 FAs during the course of the competition and 3 in the final round.
- Kavyansh.Singh wins the featured list prize, for 3 FLs in round 2.
- Adam Cuerden wins the featured picture prize, for 39 FPs during the competition.
- Z1720 wins the featured article reviewer prize, for 35 FARs in round 4.
- Epicgenius wins the good article prize, for 32 GAs in round 1.

User:Dianna
Hello how are you, I see you had a discussion with User:Dianna she has also accused me of copyvio and has reverted my edits in Alcázar de Colón I copied my edit from the spanish version of wikipedia here [1] which has been edited like this since October 24, 2015 [2], I also added other good references from important books, which the page now completely lacks a good reference. She accused me of copying an article that doesn't look anything like what I posted, even the information it has is a bit different, she won't let me reverse it, I need your help please, so as not to take it to a long process, I see that she have already been doing that kind of thing to other users, very thanks in advance.--BrugesFR (talk) 00:17, 16 November 2022 (UTC)

This includes the authority to impose site bans, topic bans, editing restrictions, and other measures needed to maintain our editing environment. The arbitration policy describes the Committee's roles and responsibilities in greater detail.
If you wish to participate in the 2022 election, please review the candidates and submit your choices on the voting page. If you no longer wish to receive these messages, you may add {{NoACEMM}}

Administrators' newsletter – December 2022
News and updates for administrators from the past month (November 2022).
- Consensus has been found in an RfC to automatically place RfAs on hold after one week.
- The article creation at scale RfC has been closed.
- An RfC on the banners for the December 2022 fundraising campaign has been closed.
- A new preference named "Enable limited width mode" has been added to the Vector 2022 skin. The preference is also shown as a toggle on every page if your monitor is 1600 pixels or wider. When disabled it removes the whitespace added by Vector 2022 on the left and right of the page content. Disabling this preference has the same effect as enabling the wide-vector-2022 gadget. - Eligible users are invited to vote on candidates for the Arbitration Committee until 23:59 December 12, 2022 (UTC). Candidate statements can be seen here.
- The proposed decision for the 2021-22 review of the discretionary sanctions system is open.
- The arbitration case Reversal and reinstatement of Athaenara's block has been closed.
- The arbitration case Stephen has been opened and the proposed decision is expected 1 December 2022.
- A motion has modified the procedures for contacting an admin facing Level 2 desysop.

This looks like a case for a WP:CIR block. Chris Troutman (talk) 23:26, 5 December 2022 (UTC)
- Possibly. If all I can get out of them is (essentially) "I am Groot", then a block may be required if they continue in this vein on pages other than their talk page. Thus far, they only have 2 edits to pages other than their talk page, and none since warnings/attempts to communicate on their talk page started, so I don't think they're causing much disruption right now. If they move out of user talk and start causing disruption, then will be the time for a block. ~ ONUnicorn(Talk|Contribs)problem solving 23:34, 5 December 2022 (UTC)
G4
Regarding your G4 decline comment at Draft:The Slink, can you tell me how is the draft not sufficiently similar from the deleted version? Regarding draft vs mainspace, G4 makes no distinction. Any CSD starting with "G" is General, and apply to articles, drafts, redirects, user pages, talk pages, files, etc
. Jay 💬 17:41, 13 December 2022 (UTC)
- @Jay: Regarding differences:
- The language of G4 is not "sufficiently similar", it's "sufficiently identical". I think this word choice is intentional and important.
- The deleted main space article had 4 paragraphs/sections, whereas the draft has
78 paragraphs and is arranged in 6 sections. The draft is longer, with more information than in the deleted version. - The references cited are slightly different. The deleted version cites the following 7 sources:
- "The Slink Management Company Rebrands – THISDAYLIVE". www.thisdaylive.com. Retrieved 2022-11-12.
- "About – The Slink Management". Retrieved 2022-08-03.

- "MIDNIGHT – BIIZ INK MANAGEMENT DEALS WITH THE SLINK MANAGEMENT – THISDAYLIVE". www.thisdaylive.com. Retrieved 2022-11-11.
- Whereas the new version cites the following 6 sources:
- "About – The Slink Management". Retrieved 2022-12-13.
- Nwafor (2022-11-07). "The Slink Management launches, The Slink Music". Vanguard News. Retrieved 2022-12-13.

Of those, onlyAfter taking a closer look; all of the ones in the draft are also in the deleted one, so the new draft does not provide additional sources. However, it does exclude some sources that were used in the deleted version.34 are cited in both versions (one of them is cited twice in the draft; those should probably be consolidated). I've marked those with a green check.
- Thus, the articles are not identical.
- Regarding the fact that the draft is in draft...
- Yes, G criteria do apply regardless of namespace, but G4 "excludes userspace and draftspace pages where the content was moved to user space or converted to a draft for explicit improvement".
- If content is deleted, and someone later thinks they can do better and create an article on the topic that would be acceptable, draft space is the place to do it. So I tend to think we should be lenient on people creating drafts on deleted mainspace topics in draft space, so long as the draft is not identical and being used "simply to circumvent Wikipedia's deletion policy" - even if it starts out identical, if they are attempting or planning to make changes that "address the reasons for which the material was deleted" then I don't think we should delete such drafts using the G4 criteria.
- On the other hand, if the draft itself was deleted after a deletion discussion at Wikipedia:Miscellany for deletion (where discussion on drafts belongs), and a "sufficiently identical" draft is then created, I would see no problem in using G4 to delete that. My issue is that improvement of content that is not yet suitable for mainspace is the purpose of draft space.
- ~ ONUnicorn(Talk|Contribs)problem solving 19:39, 13 December 2022 (UTC)
- You're right on the wording. I said "similar" from memory, and not from the wordings of G4. I fail to see how the versions are not sufficiently identical. The first phase of editing (Dec 2) started out slow but in the second phase (Dec 13), all the deleted content was brought back. I'll be retagging it for CSD, and will let another editor/admin take a call.
- This is a case of deleted article recreated as draft, and not moved or converted to draft. Agree that a deleted article can be recreated either as article or draft, but only by addressing the concerns of the deletion. Jay 💬 04:49, 14 December 2022 (UTC)

New Pages Patrol newsletter January 2023
Hello ONUnicorn,
- Backlog
The October drive reduced the backlog from 9,700 to an amazing 0! Congratulations to WaddlesJP13 who led with 2084 points. See this page for further details. The queue is steadily rising again and is approaching 2,000. It would be great if <2,000 were the “new normal”. Please continue to help out even if it's only for a few or even one patrol a day.
- 2022 Awards
Onel5969 won the 2022 cup for 28,302 article reviews last year - that's an average of nearly 80/day. There was one Gold Award (5000+ reviews), 11 Silver (2000+), 28 Iron (360+) and 39 more for the 100+ barnstar. Rosguill led again for the 4th year by clearing 49,294 redirects. For the full details see the Awards page and the Hall of Fame. Congratulations everyone!
Minimum deletion time: The previous WP:NPP guideline was to wait 15 minutes before tagging for deletion (including draftification and WP:BLAR). Due to complaints, a consensus decided to raise the time to 1 hour. To illustrate this, very new pages in the feed are now highlighted in red. (As always, this is not applicable to attack pages, copyvios, vandalism, etc.)
New draftify script: In response to feedback from AFC, the The Move to Draft script now provides a choice of set messages that also link the creator to a new, friendly explanation page. The script also warns reviewers if the creator is probably still developing the article. The former script is no longer maintained. Please edit your edit your common.js or vector.js file from User:Evad37/MoveToDraft.js
to User:MPGuy2824/MoveToDraft.js
Redirects: Some of our redirect reviewers have reduced their activity and the backlog is up to 9,000+ (two months deep). If you are interested in this distinctly different task and need any help, see this guide, this checklist, and spend some time at WP:RFD.
Discussions with the WMF The PageTriage open letter signed by 444 users is bearing fruit. The Growth Team has assigned some software engineers to work on PageTriage, the software that powers the NewPagesFeed and the Page Curation toolbar. WMF has submitted dozens of patches in the last few weeks to modernize PageTriage's code, which will make it easier to write patches in the future. This work is helpful but is not very visible to the end user. For patches visible to the end user, volunteers such as Novem Linguae and MPGuy2824 have been writing patches for bug reports and feature requests. The Growth Team also had a video conference with the NPP coordinators to discuss revamping the landing pages that new users see.

MSAD 17
Could you please explain why you used a Sun Journal article to report the MSAD 17 page, stating that it's associated with the school district, and why you, as a teacher, shouldn't be nominated for a ban (see Wikipedia:Blocking policy) for Wikipedia:Conflict of interest? Short quotations are totally within Wikipedia guidelines, and one look at either the article at hand and the MSAD17 homepage show that there were no violations. UnorthodoxyAC (talk) 22:34, 5 January 2023 (UTC)
- @UnorthodoxyAC I think you are . . . confused.
- I did not "use a Sun Journal article to report the MSAD 17 page".
- In fact, I specifically excluded the Sun Journal article from my reasoning when I deleted the page, as I did not think the similarities were significant enough to constitute a copyvio from that source.
- I'm wondering if you have me confused with Onel5969. Onel5969 is the reviewer who tagged the article as being a copyright violation, and named two sources, one of which was the Sun Journal article. I am the admin who reviewed the article, confirmed that it appeared to be a copyright violation (from the other source), and deleted it.
- I'm not sure what you mean by "stating that it's associated with the school district" - - unless you are talking about the other page that had text copied from it into the article, which is [3] from the district's website.
- What on Earth makes you think I'm a teacher? I'm not.
- Even if I was a teacher, you are totally misunderstanding the policy on conflicts of interest, the blocking policy, and the difference between a block and a ban. I don't want to go too much off on a tangent about that though, so suffice it to say you seem to be confused about those policies.
- Now substantively, you are correct when you say that, "Short quotations are totally within Wikipedia guidelines" However, the material copied from the district website did not amount to "short quotations" that were acceptable within policy. A short quotation should be indicated using quotation marks, as I have when quoting you. Longer quotations can be formatted as blockquotes. Either way, the quotation must be attributed so that readers know that it is a quote and who or what is being quoted.
- Virtually the entire History section of the article was copied nearly word for word from the district's website. There is not a single quotation mark, not a single instance of a block quote, nothing to indicate that you are quoting in that section.
- I did not "use a Sun Journal article to report the MSAD 17 page".
- I stand by my deletion of that page as a copyvio from the district's website. If you want to pursue further remedies, I suggest asking for a Wikipedia:Deletion review. ~ ONUnicorn(Talk|Contribs)problem solving 05:00, 6 January 2023 (UTC)

Redirect restoration request (Fatima Hafdi --> La Zarra)
Salve, sono qui per richiedere un ripristino già citato nel title.
Less than ten hours ago, I created the page of the Canadian artist who will represent France at the Eurovision Song Contest, using "La Zarra" as the title, in line with Wikipedia's guidelines, where it is expected to include the name by which the artist is primarily known.
However, so far with no apparent response, a user has decided to move the page via redirect is to enter her first name as the title, effectively going against the platform's guidelines.
Therefore I am here to ask if it is possible to restore the original title, and to use the current name as the redirect. I hope you will listen to my request and that we can continue to collaborate on the platform in a peaceful manner :) -- « Ðømīnīk • Cåpuån » 08:28, 14 January 2023 (UTC)

A neutral statement of the issue
Hi, I notice that you took issue with my presentation of an RfC about the U.S. Constitution. Could you explain what you feel was not neutral? I was trying to summarize the key conflict in a neutral way, but I'm sorry if I did it wrong; it's my first RfC. — Freoh 21:46, 2 February 2023 (UTC)
- You phrased the RFC as a question about "should the article discuss X broad concept", when it seems (correct me if I'm wrong) that what you are wanting discussed in the RFC is "should the article include the this specific language in this specific location". People can agree (as I do) that the article should discuss the broad concept, while disagreeing (as I do) with the way you have attempted to do so. Phrasing the RFC as you did can lead to an inactionable result - where everyone agrees that, yes, the article should discuss who "the people" were, but there is still no consensus for your changes.
- Now, maybe you really are asking if the article should discuss the broad concept but are not hung up on your specific presentation of it. In that case what you should have asked is something more along the lines of "Should we add a discussion of who was included in "the people" and how that concept has changed since the Constitution was written, and if so, where in the article would be the best place to add this?" (Just taking that one part - I realize your question was about 3 terms not one). ~ ONUnicorn(Talk|Contribs)problem solving 21:57, 2 February 2023 (UTC)
- I'm not very particular about how these issues are addressed, and I proposed those footnotes after the content had been removed from the main body of the article. Other editors have been arguing with me that discussing this information at all is undue, so I felt that that was the critical starting point of disagreement. I felt that these points were related enough to be grouped together, but if you feel that this was too much for one RfC, then I'm sorry, and I can close and reopen only one of these issues individually if you'd like. — Freoh 22:05, 2 February 2023 (UTC)
Lothar Abel
Hi, I really appreciated your detailed and kind response at ANI. I'm now in a bit of a dilemma about Lothar Abel. I'll ping Onel5969 here because I honestly value their opinion and experience too.
My personal impression is that Lothar Abel ought to survive AfD and is a valid subject as a historical figure with lasting effect, but on the other hand I accept Onel's point that the referencing was decidedly minimalistic. Because he's not a mega-star of landscape gardening like Humphrey Repton or Capability Brown, and he's obviously pre-internet, finding internet sources is hard. I'm not sure what paper sources exist, but they're likely to be Austrian while I'm sitting in the UK. He gets some mention (probably not much) in Eva Berger's "Viel herrlich und schoene Gaerten", 600-years-of garden art. But my main worry is that because I'm just a translator working from the German WP with limited access to additional sources, I'm going to struggle to improve the article beyond the state it was in when Onel tagged it. There is a real risk that if we put the article in main-space, it could sit there, tagged as needing more references, for a very long time, which is not great.
Basically the situation on Lothar Abel is this: I would have stuck it in main space as it is and hoped. Onel clearly felt it didn't quite pass muster. I personally feel that there's a fairly broad range of acceptable attitudes in WP and Onel's viewpoint is a good one, quite as valid as mine; I am probably over-inclusionist, and need the balance of other editors who are more stringent about sourcing. But I can't promise I'll ever be able to bring that article up to a higher standard. Hence my genuine dilemma about it.
On the more general point of the system, you're quite right, the history between Onel and me (and anyone else involved in Lothar Abel) is an unfortunate example of what can go wrong with the system, but I can't think of a better system. I don't much like AfC or the vagaries of the new page patrol, but they do hold back a tide of rubbish articles. Yes, it's unacceptable that articles sit around for 4 months, but since everyone here is a volunteer, no one is obliged to look at an article. Lothar Abel is a small-but-solid bit of history, not super exciting, probably not all that likeable (I prefer a scruffy, human garden!), so who am I to force someone to review an article about him? Not sure what to do about that. I should avoid reading ANI. Elemimele (talk) 21:54, 22 February 2023 (UTC)
- Thank you for the detailed response. Sources don't have to be internet based; often books are better sources than websites. I just did a brief search of google books and found this which has at least a page on him. The whole thing isn't available online, but perhaps a library can help you access it. I also found [4] and [5] which mention him, but may not rise to the level of WP:SIGCOV. This is a little hard to read in the scan, but does discuss him in more depth than the other two.
- For pre-internet topics, it's good to focus on books and newspapers. Google books has digitized a LOT of older books, and often gives enough in their previews of current books to give you an idea if it's worth tracking a copy down in a library or ordering it yourself. I don't know where in the UK you are or if there is a university library or what the public library situation is like there, but where I am in the U.S. librarians are usually quite wiling to help track down obscure books via interlibrary loan, and help research obscure topics. But that does take time and can be more effort than you may want to put in. ~ ONUnicorn(Talk|Contribs)problem solving 22:32, 22 February 2023 (UTC)
- Hi. Been busy so haven't responded. Can't remember the deleted article, so cannot speak to the exact reasons why I felt there was an issue with it. ONUnicorn is spot on in their answer. Refs don't need to be online. They don't even need to be in English. Just please be aware that they do have to have enough information so that researchers can look up the source and check the voracity. I often point folks to WP:CIT to see what should be included in refs (you don't have to use those templates, just to give an example of the needed information). Hope this helps. If it's not too much trouble, would it be possible to do a refund of the deleted article to my user-space somewhere? That way I can have a bash at it, and if it all fails, no harm done. Wishing you both all the best! Elemimele (talk) 16:20, 26 February 2023 (UTC)

WikiCup 2023 March newsletter
So ends the first round of the 2023 WikiCup. Everyone with a positive score moved on to Round 2, with 54 contestants qualifying. The top scorers in Round 1 were:
- Unlimitedlead with 1205 points, a WikiCup newcomer, led the field with two featured articles on historical figures and several featured article candidate reviews.
- Epicgenius was in second place with 789 points; a seasoned WikiCup competitor he specialises in buildings and locations in New York.
- FrB.TG was in third place with 625 points, garnered from a featured article on a filmmaker which qualified for an impressive number of bonus points.
- TheJoebro64, another WikiCup newcomer, came next with 600 points gained from two featured articles on video games.
- Iazyges was in fifth place with 532 points, from two featured articles on classical history.
The top sixteen contestants at the end of Round 1 had all scored over 300 points; these included LunaEatsTuna, Thebiguglyalien, Sammi Brie, Trainsandotherthings, Lee Vilenski, Juxlos, Unexpectedlydian, SounderBruce, Kosack, BennyOnTheLoose and PCN02WPS. It was a high-scoring start to the competition.
These contestants, like all the others, now have to start again from scratch. The first round finished on February 26. Remember that any content promoted after that date but before the start of Round 2 can be claimed in Round 2. Some contestants made claims before the new submissions pages were set up, and they will need to resubmit them. Invitations for collaborative writing efforts or any other discussion of potentially interesting work is always welcome on the WikiCup talk page. Remember, if two or more WikiCup competitors have done significant work on an article, all can claim points. If you are concerned that your nomination—whether it is at good article candidates, a featured process, or anywhere else—will not receive the necessary reviews, please list it on Wikipedia:WikiCup/Reviews Needed.
If you want to help out with the WikiCup, please do your bit to keep down the review backlogs! Questions are welcome on Wikipedia talk:WikiCup, and the judges are reachable on their talk pages or by email. Good luck! GLAM landing page
Hey ONU! If you're curious why I rejected the draft and nominated it for deletion it's because it seemed like it was intended as a landing page for a website rather than a Wikipedia article. I had never heard of GLAM tho so I See that's what it was intended as, although I'm still confused as to what the heck GLAM is. ― Blaze WolfTalkBlaze Wolf#6545 16:24, 23 March 2023 (UTC)
- LOL; I figured you misunderstood the intent of the page; though they shouldn't be using the AFC process for it. GLAM is a collaboration between the WMF and various "galleries, libraries, archives, and museums" whereby the institutions make some of the content in their collections available to Wikipedia. There's a lot of images on Commons that come from the GALM project. ~ ONUnicorn(Talk|Contribs)problem solving 16:53, 23 March 2023 (UTC)
- Interesting. But that seems like something the WMF needs to approve first though right? ― Blaze WolfTalkBlaze Wolf#6545 17:02, 23 March 2023 (UTC)

Hi
Hi,
Thank you for looking into the speedy that I posted. Apologies that it was not speedy candidacy, but I thought it was very sexual in nature. I thought it best looked into ASAP by an admin.
is that okay that I did that?
Thanks! MrBauer24 (talk) 19:33, 6 April 2023 (UTC)
- It's fine that you did that, and you'll notice I moved it to draft as it was unsourced. The fact that it was about a sexual topic isn't a problem per se, Wikipedia is famously WP:NOTCENSORED, after all. But we should be extra vigilant about sourcing in articles about sexual practices. ~ ONUnicorn(Talk|Contribs)problem solving 04:49, 8 April 2023 (UTC)
Do not protect pages of wrong targeting redirects, it may be confusing. 85.96.59.26 (talk) 16:56, 17 April 2023 (UTC)
- Hi. First off; please don't use warning templates in an inappropriate manner as you just did here on my talk page. Second, why do you feel the redirect from Nii-san to Japanese_honorifics#Familial honorifics is inappropriate? Perhaps explaining yourself rather than editwarring would be more effective. ~ ONUnicorn(Talk|Contribs)problem solving 17:05, 17 April 2023 (UTC)
- I just took a look at what they did and while in English, "Nissan" and "Nii-san" would sound similar, in Japanese if there's a double letter in Romaji, then both syllables are pronounced. So "Nissan" is Japanese would be "Nees san" and "Nii-san" would be "Nee san". I'm not a professional Japanese speaker but this is what I"ve gathered from a decent Japanese-English/English-Japanese dictionary ― Blaze WolfTalkBlaze Wolf#6545 14:38, 18 April 2023 (UTC)
- What got me was they then went around making a whole bunch of (now deleted) redirects from things like Ree-nault and Cii-troën, as well as plopping inappropriate warning templates various places. Unfortunately, they needed to be blocked. ~ ONUnicorn(Talk|Contribs)problem solving 14:41, 18 April 2023 (UTC)
- Those make no sense. Both of those companies are French so their pronunciations are different than they are spelled. And even then "Ree-nault" is just plain wrong. ― Blaze WolfTalkBlaze Wolf#6545 14:46, 18 April 2023 (UTC)

HD response
Thanks for your more detailed response to that scam-related question at the help desk. I just wanted to quickly let them know that they should not pay them any money and that it was a scam and hurriedly wrote a response just to get that point across. ― Blaze WolfTalkBlaze Wolf#6545 14:29, 18 April 2023 (UTC)

Hello @ONUnicorn I hope you're doing well. Assuming WP:AGF how should I acted on this. Would you please assist me. Thanks C1K98V (💬 ✒️ 📂) 15:56, 28 April 2023 (UTC)
- Hi @C1K98V. I hope you also are doing well. I'm assuming you are asking how you should have acted a few days ago.
- There is nothing wrong with how you acted other than how quickly you did the initial speedy tagging. You found it in mainspace, and thought that it met the A7 criteria. So you tagged it for deletion under A7. I disagreed that it met the A7 criteria, because A7 is a much lower bar than notability. A statement such as "He has worked with Skrillex, Hardwell, Exo, NCT 127, Monsta X, Rock Mafia and released songs on Spinnin' Records, Universal Music Group, SM Entertainment and more," reads to me as an assertion of importance. However, it was not suitable to remain in mainspace, so (partially as a courtesy to the article author - to give them the chance to improve it) I moved it to draft. You pointed out that the creator has been creating it on other projects. Given the other warnings on their talk page and their questions and actions since (including moving it to project space), I'm beginning to wonder if this is a competence issue on their part. If it turns up in main space again, maybe AFD. ~ ONUnicorn(Talk|Contribs)problem solving 16:12, 28 April 2023 (UTC)
- Yeah I understand and totally agree with you. But I was not asking about my previous action and discussion. Though my future actions shouldn't look like I'm biting newbie so I asked your assistance. I also assume it's a competence issue as they're not aware of Wikipedia policy and they haven't answered your question yet. Thanks C1K98V (💬 ✒️ 📂) 16:42, 28 April 2023 (UTC)
- I wasn't sure if you were asking about past actions or future. If it gets moved to article space without being significantly improved, send it to AFD. If yu think the user becomes too disruptive, ask for a block. I'd be willing to block them, or if you need them blocked when I'm not around, ask at WP:ANI. ~ ONUnicorn(Talk|Contribs)problem solving 16:48, 28 April 2023 (UTC)
