Block reason?

Hello! I think I was blocked by accident or mistake, since I don't edit anything, but I saw that before I request to be unblocked I'm supposed to ask and then understand why I was. It says that I was blocked for persistent vandalism, but I'm thinking there might be a mistake here since I haven't edited any pages that I can think of pretty much ever. Can you let me know what I'm meant to have done? Thanks very much--I appreciate it! --C 2/13/16 4:34pm 96.242.58.82 (talk) 21:36, 13 February 2016 (UTC)

Hi! The block happened about six years ago actually; the person who used to use your IP address has likely changed and you now have it. I've gone ahead and removed the block notice from your page. Please don't worry about it! NW (Talk) 22:57, 13 February 2016 (UTC)

Ah! Got it. Thanks so much! Best, C.96.242.58.82 (talk) 00:05, 14 February 2016 (UTC)

Creating an article 'Josh Reaume' that was previously deleted by you

Hello There,

Wanted to inform you that I will be working on starting the article 'Josh Reaume' again. It was previously deleted in 2009 for a lack of sources. This will no longer be an issue.

Please let me know if you have any advice or comments regarding this.

Thanks!

I would reread the Wikipedia:Notability (sports) and Wikipedia:Identifying reliable sources pages carefully. If you're satisfied that he meets the minimum requirements, go ahead and create the article. NW (Talk) 10:13, 17 March 2016 (UTC)

Discussion at WP:AN

Why did you suddenly close this discussion ? It was not finished and I didn't even and I didn't even finish answering the new editors involved in this discussion. Synthwave.94 (talk) 23:25, 24 March 2016 (UTC)

Also note that unlike what I have seen on this page, I deserve to use AWB again. The issue was discussed twice following the disagreement. Synthwave.94 (talk) 23:29, 24 March 2016 (UTC)

The discussion was open for several days and then closed, as is standard practice. Several administrators argued for removing access. I would suggest waiting several months and reapplying after demonstrating a history of editing collegially. NW (Talk) 23:16, 25 March 2016 (UTC)
NuclearWarfare, I've been using AWB for more than one year without receiving any negative comments about my changes. What I did by changing Hot 100 into Billboard Hot 100 is not controversial at all and I don't see why I should wait several months to use it again if it was clearly proved there was no abuse of this tool. Synthwave.94 (talk) 16:07, 27 March 2016 (UTC)
Also your statement is incorrect : only one admin doesn't want to see me using AWB again : Floquenbeam. Hasteur and Mendaliv, who answered the post, are NOT admins. Synthwave.94 (talk) 16:29, 27 March 2016 (UTC)
The only other admin involved in the discussion, Rich Farmbrough, explicitly said : "In the event that we agree that there was good reason to believe that these edits would not have been controversial, then that is no reason to prevent Synthwave from using AWB." It proves there's no reason to prevent me using a tool I use perfectly well, especially as two discussions (at Wikipedia talk:Manual of Style and Talk:Money (That's What I Want)), WP:OVERLINK and WP:SEAOFBLUE all prove that I was properly using AWB. Synthwave.94 (talk) 16:45, 27 March 2016 (UTC)
If my edits performed with AWB were actually incorrect, I would have been reverted by other editors and would have received negative comments. But it was not the case; nobody reverted me, nobody said it was incorrect to make these changes with AWB. I'm therefore asking to get access to AWB again for all this stupid "controversy" surrounding my actions. Synthwave.94 (talk) 16:52, 27 March 2016 (UTC)
Can you please tell me what I'm supposed to do regarding what I previously said on your talk page ? Synthwave.94 (talk) 01:29, 2 April 2016 (UTC)

Typo

FYI...it appears ArbCom topic banned Sashi until...six months ago. Probably a typo that could use fixing. Cheers. TimothyJosephWood 23:32, 3 September 2016 (UTC)

Where do you mean? NW (Talk) 02:50, 4 September 2016 (UTC)
Fixed, thanks. NW (Talk) 03:14, 4 September 2016 (UTC)

It appears that Nuclear Warfare, acting against the opinion of other administrators, who spoke at most of a warning, banned the peaceful SashiRolls from the topic Jill Stein. SashiRolls (talk) 04:01, 4 September 2016 (UTC)

Yes. NW (Talk) 05:21, 4 September 2016 (UTC)

Request for information

OK. I would like to formulate an appeal, and I would like to know the grounds of the decision, and whether ArbCom was involved. I will cite the grounds in my appeal. Thanks for your help. SashiRolls (talk) 14:44, 7 September 2016 (UTC)

Appeal to 6 month topic ban

Having had no response to my request for information concerning the 6-month topic ban that you applied to me against the opinion of the two other administrators who weighed in on the original case, I have decided to formally appeal your decision. I will add a link once the appeal is filed. Thank you for your attention to this matter. SashiRolls (talk) 01:27, 10 September 2016 (UTC)

Here is a direct link for your convenience. Again, I thank you for your time. SashiRolls (talk) 02:17, 10 September 2016 (UTC)
I see that you have filed your request. The grounds of my decision were based on my statement in the original arbitration enforcement request. The Arbitration Committee was not involved. NW (Talk) 12:47, 11 September 2016 (UTC)

Extended confirmed protection

Hello, NuclearWarfare. This message is intended to notify administrators of important changes to the protection policy.

Extended confirmed protection (also known as "30/500 protection") is a new level of page protection that only allows edits from accounts at least 30 days old and with 500 edits. The automatically assigned "extended confirmed" user right was created for this purpose. The protection level was created following this community discussion with the primary intention of enforcing various arbitration remedies that prohibited editors under the "30 days/500 edits" threshold to edit certain topic areas.

In July and August 2016, a request for comment established consensus for community use of the new protection level. Administrators are authorized to apply extended confirmed protection to combat any form of disruption (e.g. vandalism, sock puppetry, edit warring, etc.) on any topic, subject to the following conditions:

 • Extended confirmed protection may only be used in cases where semi-protection has proven ineffective. It should not be used as a first resort.
 • A bot will post a notification at Wikipedia:Administrators' noticeboard of each use. MusikBot currently does this by updating a report, which is transcluded onto the noticeboard.

Please review the protection policy carefully before using this new level of protection on pages. Thank you.
This message was sent to the administrators' mass message list. To opt-out of future messages, please remove yourself from the list. 17:48, 23 September 2016 (UTC)

Two-Factor Authentication now available for admins

Hello,

Please note that TOTP based two-factor authentication is now available for all administrators. In light of the recent compromised accounts, you are encouraged to add this additional layer of security to your account. It may be enabled on your preferences page in the "User profile" tab under the "Basic information" section. For basic instructions on how to enable two-factor authentication, please see the developing help page for additional information. Important: Be sure to record the two-factor authentication key and the single use keys. If you lose your two factor authentication and do not have the keys, it's possible that your account will not be recoverable. Furthermore, you are encouraged to utilize a unique password and two-factor authentication for the email account associated with your Wikimedia account. This measure will assist in safeguarding your account from malicious password resets. Comments, questions, and concerns may be directed to the thread on the administrators' noticeboard. A new user right for New Page Patrollers

Hi NuclearWarfare.

A new user group, New Page Reviewer, has been created in a move to greatly improve the standard of new page patrolling. The user right can be granted by any admin at PERM. It is highly recommended that admins look beyond the simple numerical threshold and satisfy themselves that the candidates have the required skills of communication and an advanced knowledge of notability and deletion. Admins are automatically included in this user right.

It is anticipated that this user right will significantly reduce the work load of admins who patrol the performance of the patrollers. However, due to the complexity of the rollout, some rights may have been accorded that may later need to be withdrawn, so some help will still be needed to some extent when discovering wrongly applied deletion tags or inappropriate pages that escape the attention of less experienced reviewers, and above all, hasty and bitey tagging for maintenance. User warnings are available here but very often a friendly custom message works best.

If you have any questions about this user right, don't hesitate to join us at WT:NPR. (Sent to all admins).MediaWiki message delivery (talk) 13:48, 15 November 2016 (UTC)

Topic ban and copyvio

Leaving a message here in the interest of transparency, and to avoid any possible future content disputes that may attempt to masquerade as topic ban enforcement.

user:SashiRolls violated their topic ban from Jill Stein, instituted by yourself on behalf of ArbCom, but did so to bring attention to a fairly blatant WP:COPYVIO which has since been addressed. For what it's worth, I think this was a good catch, and should not be counted against the user. TimothyJosephWood 12:27, 2 November 2016 (UTC)

Thanks for fixing the copyright violation introduced by Snooganssnoogans (who oddly has still (!?) never been topic banned despite all the evidence during that case and since), Timothyjosephwood.SashiRolls (talk) 14:13, 2 November 2016 (UTC)
Thank you for letting me know Timothyjosephwood. I agree with your assessment and do not feel the need to proceed further. NW (Talk) 21:22, 3 November 2016 (UTC)
I appreciate your not disciplining me (again) for working to defend Wikipedia from POV editing, this time by pointing out a clear copyright violation from the same person. Your decision not to use DS to prevent further misbehavior from the copyright violator is less comprehensible to me. Further evidence that the user just doesn't get it here. This flouting of Wikipedia principles (including WP:5P1, WP:5P2, WP:5P3 & WP:5P4) should stop. SashiRolls (talk) 06:22, 14 November 2016 (UTC)
NW, after all these years your talk page has remained on my watch list, not that I ever check it but I have a terrible streak of sentimentality that sometimes forces me to do things that don't make a lot of sense. Through these ten years here I have clung to you (and MastCell) as the Wikipedia ideal that I look up to and admire. But a few days ago your page connected to the Jill Stein article came up and just a few days prior I had read her article -- and was sorta horrified to find such a biased WP article. I made a few attempts to edit; my attempts were quickly reverted and, aware as I am about WP's stance on GMs and altmed, I knew better than to continue. That you have read her article and were not be concerned about the bias surprises me. OK, I could go on but after all these years I have learned to not waste my breath. ArbCom Elections 2016: Voting now open!

Hello, NuclearWarfare. Voting in the 2016 Arbitration Committee elections is open from Monday, 00:00, 21 November through Sunday, 23:59, 4 December to all unblocked users who have registered an account before Wednesday, 00:00, 28 October 2016 and have made at least 150 mainspace edits before Sunday, 00:00, 1 November 2016.

The Arbitration Committee is the panel of editors responsible for conducting the Wikipedia arbitration process. It has the authority to impose binding solutions to disputes between editors, primarily for serious conduct disputes the community has been unable to resolve. This includes the authority to impose site bans, topic bans, editing restrictions, and other measures needed to maintain our editing environment. The arbitration policy describes the Committee's roles and responsibilities in greater detail.

If you wish to participate in the 2016 election, please review the candidates' statements and submit your choices on the voting page. MediaWiki message delivery (talk) 22:08, 21 November 2016 (UTC)

Question about user you previously sanctioned

After you sanctioned a user on a similar topic [1] -- this edit [2] appears to directly violate WP:SYNTH (sources don't mention the topic of the article itself at all). And edit-wars to add it back in, again, at [3]. After comments from Neutrality [4], user unfortunately seems refusing to get it [5]. Keeping in mind the prior sanction you gave the user on that related topic -- would some further action be appropriate here from an admin? Sagecandor (talk) 19:37, 5 December 2016 (UTC)

Hi

You're not much for fact, logic and reason, are you. So shut you're mouth not just 99% but 100% of the time. If you have no good explanation for what you say, stop talking altogether. I expect to never hear another word from you again. You've had a million years to explain yourself. Since there has been less than zero fact, logic and reason from you up to now, stop communicating with me from now on.Jimmuldrow (talk) 05:58, 15 January 2017 (UTC)

Category:Suspected Wikipedia sockpuppets of Hamish Ross

Hello, I noticed Category:Suspected Wikipedia sockpuppets of Hamish Ross as the #1 result in Special:WantedCategories. It was deleted by you per G6, and salted to prevent re-creation. I took a look through "What links here" to see if I could get any context behind this, to no avail. In any case, is there any particular reason this category should not be re-created so it stops showing up in redlink cleanup reports? I would say either the category needs to be restored or all the members removed from the category if there's some legitimate reason it shouldn't be created. Thanks, VegaDark (talk) 22:44, 7 January 2017 (UTC)

@VegaDark: I think there was a good reason for salting it, but I cannot remember 7 years back for this specific action to be honest. Sorry, NW (Talk) 20:59, 20 January 2017 (UTC)
Fair enough - would you agree that the category as-is is not ideal? It sounds like the members should probably be removed from the category if there was a good reason for salting it. VegaDark (talk) 00:55, 21 January 2017 (UTC)

I am curious as to your reasoning here. There seems to be a pretty strong consensus that NPOL does apply in this case (8 delete or redirect and protect) vs 4 Keeps of which one is the SPA author and one is two are revived dormant accounts.Even discounting that the consensus that NPOL applies seems overwhelming. Markblock script

Hi! I want to notify you that I made this edit. We now have a "markblocked" gadget which can be enabled in preferences. The Russian script is not needed any more. The gadget code was updated recently, and the Russian code is not updated, so it is not working any more (you can read more about that here). But, many users still use the Russian version by importing from your page (User:NuclearWarfare/Mark-blocked script.js). Therefore, I edited your page so that it imports the code directly from the updated gadget. That way, it should be working even for those who do not enable the gadget, but import the code from you. I hope it's OK with you. Vanjagenije (talk) 12:05, 17 April 2017 (UTC)

Hello. Could you please let me know why this was deleted--did they ask for it to be deleted? The subject is notable and should have an article...Zigzig20s (talk) 14:41, 8 April 2018 (UTC)

I don't have OTRS access anymore but I believe the creator of the article requested its deletion. If you believe he meets notability criteria, please feel free to create a new article for him. NW (Talk) 12:20, 4 May 2018 (UTC)

Hello, I noticed you deleted the Amanda Scarborough article back in 2009 due to being a "non-notable college athlete." Assuming that article was about the softball player, it turns out that Scarborough actually does meet WP:NCOLLATH, because she won first-team NFCA (National Fastpitch Coaches Association) All-American honors in 2005 and 2007 [8], thus meeting the criteria for winning a national award. She also won softball Player of the Year award in 2005 from the Big 12 Conference, a major NCAA Division I Conference, possibly another way she meets NCOLLATH. So I wonder where "not competed at the highest level" came from.

After graduating from college, Scarborough went on to be a softball game commentator for ESPN [9] and has gotten outside media attention for her work there [10] [11] [12].

Could you please advise if this evidence is enough to undelete that article? Thanks, Arbor to SJ (talk) 23:06, 4 July 2018 (UTC)

Administrator account security (Correction to Arbcom 2019 special circular)

ArbCom would like to apologise and correct our previous mass message in light of the response from the community.

Since November 2018, six administrator accounts have been compromised and temporarily desysopped. In an effort to help improve account security, our intention was to remind administrators of existing policies on account security — that they are required to "have strong passwords and follow appropriate personal security practices." We have updated our procedures to ensure that we enforce these policies more strictly in the future. The policies themselves have not changed. In particular, two-factor authentication remains an optional means of adding extra security to your account. The choice not to enable 2FA will not be considered when deciding to restore sysop privileges to administrator accounts that were compromised.

We are sorry for the wording of our previous message, which did not accurately convey this, and deeply regret the tone in which it was delivered.

For the Arbitration Committee, -Cameron11598 21:04, 4 May 2019 (UTC)

"Wikipedia:REFLIST" listed at Redirects for discussion

An editor has asked for a discussion to address the redirect Wikipedia:REFLIST. Since you had some involvement with the Wikipedia:REFLIST redirect, you might want to participate in the redirect discussion if you wish to do so. Steel1943 (talk) 19:39, 27 November 2019 (UTC)

Administrators will no longer be autopatrolled

A recently closed Request for Comment (RFC) reached consensus to remove Autopatrolled from the administrator user group. You may, similarly as with Edit Filter Manager, choose to self-assign this permission to yourself. This will be implemented the week of December 13th, but if you wish to self-assign you may do so now. To find out when the change has gone live or if you have any questions please visit the Administrator's Noticeboard. 20:06, 7 December 2021 (UTC)

How we will see unregistered users

Hi!

You get this message because you are an admin on a Wikimedia wiki.

When someone edits a Wikimedia wiki without being logged in today, we show their IP address. As you may already know, we will not be able to do this in the future. This is a decision by the Wikimedia Foundation Legal department, because norms and regulations for privacy online have changed.

Instead of the IP we will show a masked identity. You as an admin will still be able to access the IP. There will also be a new user right for those who need to see the full IPs of unregistered users to fight vandalism, harassment and spam without being admins. Patrollers will also see part of the IP even without this user right. We are also working on better tools to help.

If you have not seen it before, you can read more on Meta. If you want to make sure you don’t miss technical changes on the Wikimedia wikis, you can subscribe to the weekly technical newsletter.

We have two suggested ways this identity could work. We would appreciate your feedback on which way you think would work best for you and your wiki, now and in the future. You can let us know on the talk page. You can write in your language. The suggestions were posted in October and we will decide after 17 January.

Thank you. /Johan (WMF)

New administrator activity requirement

The administrator policy has been updated with new activity requirements following a successful Request for Comment.

Beginning January 1, 2023, administrators who meet one or both of the following criteria may be desysopped for inactivity if they have:

 1. Made neither edits nor administrative actions for at least a 12-month period OR
 2. Made fewer than 100 edits over a 60-month period

Administrators at risk for being desysopped under these criteria will continue to be notified ahead of time. Thank you for your continued work.

I have nominated United States Academic Decathlon for a featured article review here. Please join the discussion on whether this article meets the featured article criteria. Articles are typically reviewed for two weeks. Small request

Hello, I'm correcting a tracked syntax error on Wikipedia called the Tidy Font bug, and two of your full protected pages each have one occurrence of this error. If you'd be willing, would you change your signature at the bottom of User:NuclearWarfare/Speedy and User talk:NuclearWarfare/Editnotice from

<font color="navy">NW</font> (<font color="green">Talk</font>)

to your current (and error-free) signature

<span style="color: navy;">NW</span> (<span style="color: green;">Talk</span>)

? When links are written in the <font>link</font> format with the color specified outside of the link, browsers don't agree on how to display this. Some browsers display it with the specified colors, and others default back to the standard link blue. If you are willing to adjust these two occurrences, it would be much appreciated.

Thank you, Zinnober9 (talk) 19:40, 14 May 2023 (UTC)

July music

July songs
my story today

Listening to Siegfried from the 2023 Bayreuth Festival, third act, Andreas Schager as Siegfried waking up Brünnhilde, reminded me of this discussion. Was there anything in it demanding arbitration? - A few weeks later, three participants were admonished, - for what still remains a mystery to me? -- Gerda Arendt (talk) 20:30, 29 July 2023 (UTC)

Today Jahrhundertring, and I'm listening to Götterdämmerung from Bayreuth (pictured), - the image (of a woman who can't believe what she has to see) features also on the article talk. --Gerda Arendt (talk) 20:46, 31 July 2023 (UTC)
