El Camino poster

[edit]

Hi, how are you able to remove the previous versions of a file like you did here? --Mazewaxie (talkcontribs) 16:07, 23 September 2019 (UTC)[reply]

I don't; while (auto)confirmed users can upload new or replace existing files (unless protected), only an admin can delete revisions. Also, since it was tagged with {{Orphaned non-free revisions}}, they are subject to deletion per CSD F5 after 7 days. Ntx61 (talk) 16:20, 23 September 2019 (UTC)[reply]
Oh okay, I don't why but I assumed that since you removed the orphaned tag you had also deleted the previous versions. Sorry about that, I wish you a nice day. --Mazewaxie (talkcontribs) 16:22, 23 September 2019 (UTC)[reply]
Check the user that made the changes at the revision history (I forgot to check the page at the time of my previous reply); an admin already removed orphaned non-free revisions. Ntx61 (talk) 16:27, 23 September 2019 (UTC)[reply]

[edit]

Thanks for downsizing my image! Could you perhaps clarify for me what the guidelines are for non-free logos, or point me in the direction of where I can find out myself? I wasn’t sure if it’s a pixel dimension rule or a file size rule. Neighborhood Review (talk) 00:14, 24 September 2019 (UTC)[reply]

Pixel dimension rule; this applies to all non-free images, be it a logo, a poster, a cover art, or anything else. Normally, DatBot does the reduction after the files were tagged for such by JJMC89 bot; I was just bored so I did it. Ntx61 (talk) 00:27, 24 September 2019 (UTC)[reply]

Date of birth vandal

[edit]

Hello, just to let you know that I have requested page protection/pending changes to the articles that this IP Special:Contributions/110.139.73.51 vandalizes. They have been doing this for years in various articles, and I don't know if there's much else that can be done about it than to either report the IP or ask for protection for the pages. -kyykaarme (talk) 14:41, 17 May 2020 (UTC)[reply]

@Kyykaarme: I am also thinking of reporting that IP outright, but if they use multiple IPs to target specific page/s, then I could also consider requesting protection on affected page/s (which you did request anyway). By the way, only English Wikipedia administrators can (un)block users/IPs (including IP ranges) or (un)protect pages on English Wikipedia. Ntx61 (talk) 15:33, 17 May 2020 (UTC)[reply]
The two pages were finally protected. I have watchlisted several of the user's target pages (which is how I noticed your reverts). The user mainly targets Asian voice actors, so if you see someone changing birthdates in those types of articles, and especially if their service provider is PT Telkom Indonesia (which can be seen in the Whois feature on the contributions page), then it's probably this vandal. It's good that you noticed the vandalism from 2018! That shows how this vandal's "work" can be hidden in articles for a long time. -kyykaarme (talk) 21:53, 17 May 2020 (UTC)[reply]

No problem, I just assumed you meant to revert that act of vandalism as well, or it was a subsequent act of vandalism committed after your revert.--TommyBoy (talk) 04:41, 13 June 2020 (UTC)[reply]

‑‑Neveselbert (mobile) (talk · contribs · email) 12:31, 31 July 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Hi Ntx. When you're able to, can you please look at these 4 files? Much obliged, ‑‑Neveselbert (talk · contribs · email) 17:30, 2 August 2020 (UTC)[reply]
@Neveselbert and Neveselbert (mobile): Sorry, I did not have time to look at it. Images are now being grabbed for reduction. Ntx61 (talk) 09:05, 3 August 2020 (UTC)[reply]
 Done. This time, metadata has been carried over. Ntx61 (talk) 09:23, 3 August 2020 (UTC)[reply]
Thanks, although can you clarify whether each of the images were saved with 95% quality? ‑‑Neveselbert (talk · contribs · email) 14:10, 3 August 2020 (UTC)[reply]
@Neveselbert and Neveselbert (mobile): I lost track of which is which. If I have time I might redo with 95% quality and re-upload all 4. Ntx61 (talk) 16:15, 3 August 2020 (UTC)[reply]
OK, thanks, although you don't need to do all 4, just these two would be fine. ‑‑Neveselbert (mobile) (talk · contribs · email) 18:00, 3 August 2020 (UTC)[reply]
@Neveselbert and Neveselbert (mobile):  Done. Ntx61 (talk) 02:42, 5 August 2020 (UTC)[reply]
Thanks again, although can you please redo file:IS (Ivor) Richard.jpeg and file:Robert-Villiers-Grimston-1st-Baron-Grimston-of-Westbury.jpg (from the original, with 95% quality) in the Grayscale colour mode? Much appreciated, ‑‑Neveselbert (mobile) (talk · contribs · email) 16:46, 5 August 2020 (UTC)[reply]
@Neveselbert and Neveselbert (mobile):  Done.
information Note: Because removing color information in some images may result in noticeable changes, I might in the future export manually reduced images with a lower chroma subsampling instead to reduce file size in almost grayscale images. One of those is File:IS (Ivor) Richard.jpeg, which I stripped of anyway; purge the page cache and clear your browser cache as needed, and if that is not the intended changes for you, feel free to revert to a prior version. Ntx61 (talk) 03:46, 6 August 2020 (UTC)[reply]
Thanks again, really appreciate it. Would it be possible for you to send an attachment via email of file:IS (Ivor) Richard.jpeg with said lower chroma subsampling? I'm interested to see if there's a noticeable difference. ‑‑Neveselbert (mobile) (talk · contribs · email) 13:40, 6 August 2020 (UTC)[reply]
@Neveselbert and Neveselbert (mobile):  Comment: Attachments are not possible via Special:EmailUser. Alternatively, I took a Commons file (since I cannot upload an esoteric file to Wikipedia that is not freely licensed), resized to WP:IMAGERES-compliant resolution then exported with YUV 4:4:4 and 4:2:0 chroma subsampling and uploaded locally as follows:
Ntx61 (talk) 18:41, 7 August 2020 (UTC)[reply]
OK, I'm intrigued. If you were to reply to one of my previous emails, you should be able to attach the file for me to look at. I can send another to you for you to reply to, if that's more convenient? ‑‑Neveselbert (talk · contribs · email) 22:12, 7 August 2020 (UTC)[reply]
@Neveselbert and Neveselbert (mobile): Possible, but I'm not confident sending out my real name, which is always included when sending an e-mail off-wiki (as opposed to using Special:EmailUser where only the e-mail address is sent). Should I just upload it directly to File:IS (Ivor) Richard.jpeg (and you can revert if you are not satisfied)? Ntx61 (talk) 01:23, 8 August 2020 (UTC)[reply]
OK, you can just upload it, I'm fine with that. ‑‑Neveselbert (mobile) (talk · contribs · email) 01:28, 8 August 2020 (UTC)[reply]
@Neveselbert and Neveselbert (mobile):  Uploaded, reduced using a newer version of GIMP (2.10.18). Ntx61 (talk) 01:37, 8 August 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks again, this definitely does appear to be an improvement. I'm correct in that this new version was saved with 95% quality after being reduced again from the original image? ‑‑Neveselbert (talk · contribs · email) 02:41, 8 August 2020 (UTC)[reply]

@Neveselbert and Neveselbert (mobile): Yes, at 95%. Ntx61 (talk) 02:46, 8 August 2020 (UTC)[reply]

ArbCom 2020 Elections voter message

[edit]
Hello! Voting in the 2020 Arbitration Committee elections is now open until 23:59 (UTC) on Monday, 7 December 2020. All eligible users are allowed to vote. Users with alternate accounts may only vote once.

The Arbitration Committee is the panel of editors responsible for conducting the Wikipedia arbitration process. It has the authority to impose binding solutions to disputes between editors, primarily for serious conduct disputes the community has been unable to resolve. This includes the authority to impose site bans, topic bans, editing restrictions, and other measures needed to maintain our editing environment. The arbitration policy describes the Committee's roles and responsibilities in greater detail.

If you wish to participate in the 2020 election, please review the candidates and submit your choices on the voting page. If you no longer wish to receive these messages, you may add {{NoACEMM}} to your user talk page. MediaWiki message delivery (talk) 02:59, 24 November 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Please explain what you did. The only thing I see is that you restored 152k to an already bloated (and atrocious) article with content that is available elsewhere--precisely the reason why splitting was invented. -- Wait, I think I understand: content from the individual articles is ferried to the List article? That's handy, and it minimizes the List article, but it leaves the (eight) main articles with this huge amount of content. There has to be a better way. Drmies (talk) 16:33, 22 January 2021 (UTC)[reply]

@Drmies: That changes I made, for me, was a bad idea. I am currently undoing my recent edits to seasons 7 and 8 and moving the tables to List of Ang Probinsyano episodes for now. Maybe move the episode lists to new pages, one page per season, then transclude them on the main list? Ntx61 (talk) 16:37, 22 January 2021 (UTC)[reply]
Given their size, that is not a bad idea, and I appreciate your help. I'll tell you what, from my end, the problem is--the sheer size of all these pages. Another problem is that many of the edits were made by sockpuppets (via accounts or via IP), and I can't even trust that they know what they're doing--with you, that's different, which is why I didn't revert you but asked about it.

I wish these articles were better--they are excessively detailed and bloated with plot details, and that's a real shame: if you read through all that detail you will find that the show is actually important, but nothing in these articles makes that very clear. I mean, look at the lead from Ang Probinsyano; it is practically empty, and it's not until you scroll through all that **** (which goes a lot quicker after this cut that you get to the "Reception", which indicates just how big the show is, in so many ways. (I just tagged the lead of the main article.) So there's a lot of work that can be done--thanks for your note. See what you can do: I won't stand in your way. If you find an elegant solution that you can apply to all the articles, that's great. Just be mindful, right--if you copy content to new articles, make sure you give proper attribution. See WP:Copying within Wikipedia. Drmies (talk) 16:47, 22 January 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Hi Ntx, hope you're doing well. Would you mind downscaling the original version of this non-free image using the four steps you previously outlined at my talkpage? ArbCom 2024 Elections voter message

[edit]

Hello! Voting in the 2024 Arbitration Committee elections is now open until 23:59 (UTC) on Monday, 2 December 2024.

If you wish to participate in the 2024 election, please review the candidates and submit your choices on the voting page. If you no longer wish to receive these messages, you may add {{NoACEMM}} to your user talk page. MediaWiki message delivery (talk) 00:40, 19 November 2024 (UTC)[reply]
