Did you know ...

[edit]

Hi. Thanks for the work you've been doing! I wanted to tell you that I've nominated Lucy Madox Brown for DYK, and it's been approved. This means that a hook for the article will appear in the "Did you know" section of the Main Page. I asked for it to appear on International Women's Day (March 8), but it may happen on a different date. MANdARAX  XAЯAbИAM 04:03, 10 February 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Ta muchly for this! Sorry replying on mobile so formatting not great. Re: Brown vs Madox Brown, keeping Madox Brown would be more appropriate as this is how her father is referred to in PR circles and she would be searched for under this name rather than plain Brown because of the family connection. There is also a case for using Rossetti but maiden name is preferred. Let me know your thoughts. Nouveaudigital (talk) 10:15, 10 February 2014 (UTC)nouveaudigital[reply]
You're welcome.

As for the sort key, I tried looking around, and some sources sort her by "Brown", but mostly the issue is confused by her being sorted as "Rossetti". I thought it would be useful to see how her father is sorted. Most sources I found, including the 1911 Encyclopædia Britannica and Getty Research, sort him as "Brown, Ford Madox". This is also how someone unfamiliar with the family or Pre-Raphaelites would likely search for them. However, you're the one knowledgeable in this matter, so if you'd like to switch it back, please do so.

Also, as I mentioned, I requested that the hook be run on International Women's Day, but if you'd prefer it to run sooner, that would be fine. As there's only one image slot per DYK set, you might have a better chance of it running in the desirable lead position with the image if it's not saved for March 8. Let me know what you prefer. IWD would be a great honour but wherever it can be squeezed in with the best chance of click thru. I'm on a research trip at the moment but when I get home I'll check the most recent Tate PR exhibition catalogue as their index will have the most up to date naming convention. I'll report back before the end of the week. Thanks again for all your help! Nouveaudigital (talk) 07:33, 11 February 2014 (UTC)nouveaudigital[reply]

Heya- I checked a few sources and the most up to date ones cite it as Brown, Lucy Madox, so you are completely correct in this. I'll keep a sharp eye out tomorrow to see if it appears! I'm writing the Rosa Brett article next and it is kicking around my sandbox.Nouveaudigital (talk) 15:02, 7 March 2014 (UTC)nouveaudigital[reply]

Thanks for looking into the sort key.

The hook is currently scheduled to appear at 4 pm London time, but things can sometimes get shifted around, so you can consult the Queue to see if it changes. The image of her as a girl was selected. I thought her adult image would be better, but it's good to have gotten the coveted image slot at all. I'll look forward to seeing your next article; please consider nominating that for DYK also (remember that nominations must be made within five days of when you move it from your sandbox into article space.)
