Welcome, and...

[edit]

Hi Nortekman, I've noticed your edits on subjects related to rodeo and ranching. I have edited some and reverted others, as some of the content, particularly etymology, is getting a bit too far into the weeds for the articles in question, and some of the sources are not necessarily reliable. That said, you may want to look at History of rodeo, as some of the material I removed from the rodeo article might fit there better, though be sure to understand the policy of No original research on Wikipedia. Montanabw(talk) 15:53, 24 February 2022 (UTC)[reply]

Hello, and thanks for your input. Can you tell me which sources are not reliable? In regards to the rodeo, I think the information I provided should be on both, the main page and on the history page. It is important information for those who want to know the history and etymology of the word. If not, do you think it should be better to create a different page for “Rodeo”? The actual rodeo, not the sport of “rodeo” or why Americans call “rodeo”. I also noticed you reverted my edit of the word “Spanish”. I thought it would be better to leave it out because by “Spanish” it means from Spain, and the Spanish people had nothing to do with all of this, their methods and tools are different. For example they don’t rope cattle, they use a lance called “garrocha”. Rodeos did not exist in Spain, it was not part of their herding methods and traditions; Rodeos are a Latin American herding method, for managing wild cattle. If we use the demonym of Spanish, people are going to think this all came from Spain. Unless you’re using the word “Spanish” in a different way. If so, how? For example when you use the phrase “Spanish Vaqueros”. By Spanish vaqueros do you mean the cattle herders from Spain? Again they had nothing to do with the development of cattle herding in Latin America. If you are using the word “Spanish” to refer to the vaqueros of Colonial Mexico (New Spain) and South America, how are you using it? Are you using it to refer to their ethnic or racial background? Or as a demonym or citizenship status? As we all know the vast majority of vaqueros in colonial Mexico were black Africans, mulattos, mestizos, coyotes, ”lobos”, etc, What the actual Spaniards (whites) called “gente baja”or “low people” referring to their status as “inferiors” or their “wretchedness”. If you are using it as their “citizenship” then that would be wrong too because these people did not have Spanish citizenship, as more than half of the blacks and Mulattos were slaves and the others, while freemen, were just subjects and had no rights as the actual Spanish people did. Again, there was no roping, trick roping, no rodeos, no bull riding in Spain; this all was developed in the New World. Thanks for your help. Nortekman (talk) 23:51, 25 February 2022 (UTC)[reply]

Hi. Thank you for your recent edits. An automated process has detected that when you recently edited Charro, you added a link pointing to the disambiguation page Boor. Such links are usually incorrect, since a disambiguation page is merely a list of unrelated topics with similar titles. (Read the FAQ • Join us at the DPL WikiProject.)
